My man Bourbon Bill, nice vid! Love me some WTrail too! FYI, it's time to care... I'm about to drop some inside rickhouse knowledge on ya...(and I was told this by a trusted source who is a general manager at a major liquor store who has done a lot of barrel picks)...Your pick from rickhouse "A-N19-E9"..... compute, compute, compute... means Rickhouse letter A, on the northside, rick row 19, rick level E which is the middle of the 2nd floor (there are 3 rick levels per floor so the 1st floor is ABC, second floor is DEF, and so on), and its the 9th barrel deep in that rick. Lmk if you need any clarification, or if it's too nerdy just blow right by this

Damn Bryan dropping some good rickhouse knowledge I love it. Someone said today they got a store pick that was about 5.5 yrs old you seeing any wilderness trail picks approaching that age all I’ve ever seen have been ~4.5 ish. I know they just released an 8 yr so I’m hoping in a few years 6+ yr barrel strength is out an about

@@bourbonbill i have a WTrail high rye bourbon pick that's 5.5 yr old but it actually came out a couple years ago. By far, almost everything I've seen is around 4.5 years old. I will say the 5.5 yr old is made with Canton barrels vs. ISC and it's my fave pick i've had from WTrail, and I've had a good amount. I picked up the 8yr recently since i live in IN across from KY but I must say for $100 I'm disappointed. It shoulda been barrel strength. Just like u were saying with the 6yr old.

@@bryanmacke ahh okay so those older picks do exist then I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled. Have you ever seen a different yeast strain than ferm pro 1? And yeah the 6yr had good flavor it’s value was lower though it should have been cask strength. I can understand how the 8yr at more should have also been cask. I bet they will have those in the future soon though

@@bourbonbill yeah, i really look forward to getting more cask strength picks that are 5, 6, 7 years old. I get the feeling that most picks will stay in the 4-5 year range tho for a little while until they get to the point when they were barreling 200 barrels a day vs. like 20. My bro-in-laws just picked up a couple store picks that have the 927 yeast strain. I've only had the FermPro1 as of yet. I look forward to trying theirs!

Timely vid! Just picked up a 5yr, 5month store pick of the rye yesterday at 110 proof. Got to sample it in the store and it's fantastic. As an added bonus it was marked down to $50 from $65. The bad news for you is that I'm in KY and had my hands on the 8yr rye ($85,) but picked up the store pick instead due to the higher proof and lower cost. Will let you know if I end up grabbing one at some point.

That’s a hell of a deal on the rye and the highest age one I’ve seen yet! Congrats on that one. And nooo haha go get the 8yr I’ve seen very few reviews on it

Wilderness Trail is doing some really good things. Glad you were able to find the 6 year. I’m watching for the 8 year. I haven’t tried the rye, but I may need to pick some up.
