Today marks the official start of Wilds of Eldraine spoilers and we have a ton to discuss. The gingerbread women from the Throne of Eldraine trailer is back for revenge. Will and Rown return. Hylda + Junk Winder + any instant speed token generator = tap down your opponent's board while making an army of 4/4s on your opponent's end step. Considering the number of Junk Winder / Chatterfang decks we've seen from Phil already I am looking forward to this one.

I think you’re underestimating Will, specifically as a piece in Angel decks. Their gameplan is already to gain a bunch of life every turn and then play pretty expensive cards, Will can reduce their costs by a LOT to get really expensive angels out for very cheap. It’s not a build around, but it’s a strong inclusion.

She looks like she synergies well with elvish mariner. 1 mana scry 2 draw 1 tap 2 times however much mana you have is scary. With 3 mana + scry you tap 6 per enemy’s or 4 and a 4/4. It seems fun to build around.

Halana and Alena Partners, this is the one from Crimson Vow, works amazing with Agatha and maybe could be used in Standard to do some interesting things. You'd use Halana and Alena to grow Agatha which you then use Agatha to grow Halana and Alena which you use to grow Agatha.

Kellan equipments as a commander deck sounds really good, especially thanks to the multiple versions of Nahiri that just make tokens. As a go wide boros deck with a voltron backup plan, it sounds very interesting and might get me to break away from my usual golgari mixes

First thought on Hylda is using opposition and mind over matter, it does seem like a really fun and unique mechanic. You could also play Hylda in a Derevi deck and go nuts.

Will can be used multiple times in one turn, thanks to some untap support of WU color identity. You still probably winning (in EDH) by casting Approach of the second sun, but i can see casting it with discount then untapping Will to discount a X draw spell to get Approach back to your hand and probably cast it again to win the game

Virtue of Knowledge is going straight into my ETB DRAGONS in commander. I wonder if Seth is undervaluing it sumply because it give you an early game doubled trigger and then late game can be a finisher with the rest of your ETB shenanigans.

1) Eriette curses could be really scary. You can stack a bunch of auras, without having to worry about losing creatures to removal, and can drain enemies out while stopping attacks with Ghostly Prison/Sphere of Safety. 2) Hilda + Opposition lets you tap a creature to tap an enemy creature, then pay 1 to create a 4/4 that can be tapped to tap another enemy creature. It repeats until you run out of mana or the enemies run out of creatures. 3) Rowan + Fire Covenant + Exsanguinate/Torment of Hailfire is extremely funny. For example, you can pay 1RBBB to Fire Covernant an enemy creature, pay all but 1 life (39 in EDH), and then Exsanguinate for 39 to each opponent, gaining 117 life. More realistically, make a deck with Peer into the Abyss and a bunch of rituals and you could play out much of your deck in one turn with her. Also, we do have a spell commander in the form of Extus, Oriq Overlord, and it's really strong. These new adventure commanders are likely the same.

Standard-Looking forward to wedding announcement and "lich knights conquest". Wedding already provides enough for two revived creatures. With harvester you can get an additional blood token(way to cycle your big creatures if you happen to draw them). Maybe a mardu shell right there. Imagine fable in standard still.

Don't think wedding is necessary. Maybe for card draw? Grixis anvil or vampire engine would be better imo Grixis would be my take. The limiting factor will be having enough creatures in the graveyard. Maestros charm is perfect as it lets you dig 5 cards deep for this spell and to set up your graveyard. Could get out atraxa, etali and titan as early as turn 4. 1- Blood fountain. 2- Requisitioner. 3.9- cast charm to dig and set up graveyard. 3-4. Requisitioner dies and leaves being a treasure token. 4. You clown out your opponent.

Virtue of knowledge wouldn’t do anything with the Capena fetches since the resolution of the ability depends on the land being sacrificed. Due to the ‘when this enters sacrifice it, when you do…’ you would get two copies of the trigger but since you can only sacrifice the land once the second trigger to resolve won’t do anything.

If you have the new legend with adventure in commander, does casting the adventure and then instead of exiling your commander, putting it back in the command zone, does that increase your commander tax? You're casting a differently named spell than your commander, so my gut says you can cast it a bunch of times. If it does increase the tax, does the tax apply to the adventure?

When you cast either side from the command zone, the next time you cast either side from the command zone costs 2 more. You can cast the adventure and then the creature for their normal costs, then when it dies the adventure for 2 more but the creature for its normal cost again.

We haven't had any adventure legends if I'm not mistaken, but we definitely had some DFC cards in Kaldheim which were a legend on one-side, and sorcery on the other (there's the blue legendary creature, with a green sorcery backside that lets you put any number of lands from your hand onto the battlefield).

Syr ginger doesn't work with tokens though. It doesn't trigger when they are destroyed, but when they go into the graveyard, and tokens don't go to the graveyard, they just get exiled.

I don’t think we need any more Panharmonicon effects personally, however I kind of feel happy for Seth when he gets to say that something is “literally another Panharmonicon”. I think Hylda is going to be the first freeze commander that is actually powerful and I’m here for it. I wanted to build Rhoda and Timin so much when they were spoiled, but didn’t feel like they had quite enough going for them. However, I do agree that Hylda can single-handedly win games if the deck is running properly. It’s definitely going to be an interesting archetype going forward that continues to slowly get more support every couple sets.

fun fact about kellan: you don't have to put him in exile after casting the adventure, you can just move him back to the command zone and cast the tutor again (with tax). could this be a kaldra commander?

Out of the lower rarity stuff, Ruby the signpost Gruul uncommon looks great for Bard class. I actually think she looks better in the deck than Agatha, she's a hasty mana dork that's free and helps you ramp into Bard Class's card draw mode and into the cards you draw off of her. Monstrous Rage, the new red pump spell, also looks really good. An Instant that's just {R} and gives +3/+1 and Trample already seems quite strong, but the fact that +1/+1 and Trample are coming from the Monster role and hence are "permanent" seems really powerful. If you play a Swiftspear on one, you can hit your opponent to 19, and then on the next turn, cast Monstrous Rage and make Swiftspear a 5/4 Trample which is strong. If you have a Play with Fire, you can put your opponent to 11 Life on turn 2 which seems pretty fast honestly? And it costs as a modified creature for Thundering Raiju. It's a card that I want to experiment with for sure.

Didn't mention Opposition? Tap a creature tap your opponents creature. Create a 4/4. Tap your new 4/4 tap another creature.. rinse and repeat. Can keep your opponents tap down forever if it sticks around

On Syr Ginger, it's not going to work with tokens unfortunately! you're right it doesn't say once per turn or non-token, but it does say the artifact has to go to the graveyard!

It's the same wording as marionette master and that works fine with tokens. The token is seen going to the gy and doesn't care that it is removed from the game as part of being a token leaving play.

Expel the Interlopers is a nicer version of Retribution of the Meek as a lot of the times the go wide decks will end up and 3-4 power, so the ability pick 4, kill the Shelodred and swing in is kinda nice

Beseech + Artifact Land into the One Ring...Hey look, you have an Artifact to sacrifice for the next Beseech... We're definitely going to see this in Historic. But there are so many ways to make a resolved Beseech into a game ending proposition.

You should consider for Expel the Interlopers, unlike Dusk or Bywater or other weenie-safe wraths, it can still function as a straight wrath if you need it to. If your opponent is also playing alot of cheap small creatures and ahead, Dusk wont save you, Expel will. I feel thats worth it.

So Beseech the Mirror goes Quasi infinite with Wheel of Sun and Moon and The One Ring. Just cast your One Ring, draw whatever, then cast Beseech, saccing the ring, the ring goes back to the bottom of your library, then you go get the ring, and cast it for free, as well your Beseech finishes resolving and gets put on the bottom of the library. You can do all sorts of other cogs to this machine, but it can get some spicy results as soon as turn 1 or 2 with an artifact land. Also, wheel of sun and moon costs 2cmc, so you can get it with the first casting of Beseech if need be, and it'll be on the battlefield before Beseech resolves if the casting happens as part of Beseech's effect, not 100% sure on that.

I think the end is really good for standard right now because I think it's a little too creature based. Think of standard without sheoldred, or raffine, or atraxa. It's a card we've been needing.

Important note for copying the standard fetches. You have to let the first trigger resolve to sacrifice it, then copy the "when you do" delayed trigger Edit: The first triggered ability is why they don't work with Elesh Norn

definitely adding both agatha and her cauldron to my kenrith deck, agatha is like an extra biomancer's, shes a bit weaker at first but for 1 green kenrith can make her equal to biomancer's, and for 2 more she can just reduce kenrith fully by herself, and the cauldron will be great color fixing, goes quite nice with kenrith being able to give out counters to as many creatures as i need as well

Generous Gift will be better in the aggregate, since it can hit things like Gaea's Cradle. Stroke of Midnight will likely be very good, but the ability to hit lands can't be understated.

Lich-Knights Conquest immediately made me think of living end shenanigans for Historic. Obviously it's nowhere near Living end, but we already have most of the creatures living end plays on arena. Replace shardless and other creatures with sac fodder producers and you might have a new jank deck.
