The last good coach the Raiders had was Jon Gruden. They wrongfully got rid of him and ended up using his offense to get to the Superbowl the next year with players he coached up only to lose that Superbowl to Jon Gruden in a blowout.
His antics and personality cannot wear on people well. People say that Jim Harbaugh gets old very quick. John Gruden seems much worse. He sounds like a college coach. Different era and I would trust what he says, if I'm in his locker room.
@@roshawnterry1929 that's the big debate tom doesnt have 5 without the defense forget the first 3...the last 2 ended with an interception in the end zone and the defense shutting down Atlanta in the second half. Patriots also had a future HOF kicker.
The Raiders players should thank god that Gruden is getting all this attention. Otherwise we'd be talking about how badly they've played from the start of the season

I don't know about 100mil but when you are a Coveted FA and you go to a Bum team they have to pay more. Most teams he is probably a 7mil per year Coach but OAK has had like 1 good season in 10 years so they had to overpay. He was also making like probably close to 10mil on TV etc so they had to pay to pry him away from his other high paying gigs
@Alex Garcia, first off he jettisoned the rocket armed Jeff George, who was Al Davis's type quarterback in favor of Rich Gannon, who had been a backup with Minnesota and Kansas City. He coupled Gannon with two Hall of Fame receivers in their late 30s to form the best passing game and total offense in the league. He took the Raiders to the playoffs three straight years and if not for the Tuck Rule he might have won a Superbowl with two different teams. The Raiders also lost a bye because of a stupid rule applied in the final minutes that has since been changed along with the Tuck Rule. He was so highly regarded that the Buccaneers traded two first round picks and two second round picks to get him. It may not have occurred to you but that meant Gruden didn't have those picks with the Buccaneers. Tony Dungy had the best defense for the better part of a decade, a pro bowl halfback and a young Mike alstott and had a losing postseason record because he thought Shaun King of the 27 touchdowns and 24 picks was a franchise quarterback. Gruden then stepped in with his four best defenders averaging 30 years of age, found a Dependable average Quarterback and used unheralded running back Mike Pittman and won the Super Bowl. In other words you don't know what the f*** you're talking about and are too young to have experienced any of this. You're just repeating what some media clowns have said.

Gruden's biggest mistake to this start was to bring in that OC Olsen. He had Carr at 0-10 on his rookie year. Obviously Carr can't play that offense. Let's change it to Hue Jackson next season
Andre Bryant doesn’t matter. You’re a a grown man. He’s a grown man. The age gap between coaches and players doesn’t matter. Some of the greatest coaches ever were older. It’s all about building a culture. Oakland didn’t have a culture. Mack was extremely talented and still is, but was known to take plays off time to time. Gruden is trying to build a specific type of locker room and is getting rid of guys that can’t help build it. Notice guys like Jordy Nelson and Jared Cook. Those are kinda if attitudes Gruden wants. He wants a culture built around that kind of professionalism.

When they just cut Mack who is a top 10 defensive player that wanted more money. Gruden will trade Carr before 2020, he wants to groom his own QB and get rid of his contract. Belichick makes 10 mill a year cause he's won 5 SB and proven to be a championship coach every year.
Yo.... Gruden's money has nothing to do with the cap, which is were the player's money comes from. So, there is plenty of money to be made. 70+ million so far. Shouldn't the player's be trying their damnedest to earn that money and not worry about what a coach is making?
well yes but somebody is still signing Gruden's check. It happens to be the same guy that doesn't have enough money to pay Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, and maybe Derek Carr, right now anyway. The debt burden of the new facility and staff for the Raiders must be incredibly high and making it difficult for Mark Davis to actually dish out big contracts.

Exactly the raiders owner is the poorest owner in the NFL. Guaranteed money isn't against cap every year either. Guaranteed money means the owner has to have that much in there bank. That's why a lot of owners are doing that now. Like Stan kronke Rams owner the richest owner and Paul Allen RIP owner of the seahawks.or the Glazers owners of the Bucs. Even Kahn owner of the Jags.
I don't think the Gruden hating is entirely warranted. He's on a 10 year deal, now he might not get that long but the long term philosophy is clear. So far the idea is he is going to have 4 or 5 first round picks (not that hard to hit on if you don't try to be cute with it) for the first year of the Las Vegas Raiders. I don't think the verdict is out until 2 seasons in Vegas.

Barry Melrose went from coaching Gretzky and the La king to the stanley cup final 93, and then became a nhl analysist on Espn. When the Tampa bay lightnings hired him as a coach they failed.
Gruden was a coach before he was commentator. He was pretty successful with the Raiders before they traded him away. Next year the guy who replaced him took his team to the super bowl and he beat them
I don't understand the argument that Gruden want's to be the star, he is a star because the media makes him one. He is not out there saying look at me look at me. It's the media saying where is he there he is! K Mack is gone because HE decided not to play. HE decided NOT to honor his contract. Why keep and pay a player who will not play? I have been a Raiders fan since the 60's and have always stuck by them (yes even during the grueling Jay Schroeder era) I admit this has been a very rough few decades but these guys are so focused on Gruden with stars in their eyes. The media made Gruden this darling QB Whisperer/Offensive Guru that was going to ride into Oakland on a white horse and save the day. The problem is idiot Mark Davis gave Gruden a guaranteed contract, with all this money and what has Gruden done to deserve it? Yes, he won a Super Bowl in Tampa, with Tony Dungy's guys. Yes, he helped form a lackluster Raider team in the late 90's/early 00's to a Super Bowl contender, but he had veterans on each of those teams. He didn't build up any young players. This is the reason many Raider fans are questioning the decision making process going on with the organization. I've been a supporter of this team since the late 70's, and these boneheaded decisions they keep making is hard to continue to support this team, when they keep making the same mistakes over again.

Al davis passed and Hue Jackson goes and trades a 1st and 2nd for carson palmer and we go through Dennis Allen, Tony Sparano, Jack Del Rio, that's 4 coaches with different systems in 6 years ontop of it. Gruden isn't winning but at least he has the guts to tear it down to build it back up his way
The Khalil Mack argument is asinine and it's getting old. The last 2 years the Raider D was 23rd and 26th. He's one of the 3 best defenders in the game, but he was by himself and the contract he commanded was not feasible for a defense that WITH HIM are in the bottom third. I love Mack, but like it or not, getting 2 1st round picks was not a bad move instead of having a Le'Veon Belll kind of situation. The 12-4 team from two years ago was a mirage of epic proportions. Derek's Carr's injury and what Oakland was able to do those final 2-3 games without him, including getting wiped out by the all mighty Brock Osweiler's Houston Texans, shows exactly what that team was. Jon Gruden is shouldering a disproportionate level of blame for a well hidden mess that was the Reggie McKenzie / Dennis Allen / Jack DelRio era. If you need further proof, look at all of McKenzie's draft picks and how many of them are still on the team. The 2014 draft was magic, all others just tragic.

Khalil mack was a great trade both sides.. Raiders get rid of a player that will age and be old by the time they are competitive and won't have to pay him. On top of that they get two first round picks that will be close to top picks every year.
Mack got paid, Carr got paid, Cooper will get paid. The bottomline is this...if you perform you'll get your money, whether its in Oakland or somewhere else. If you're demotivated by your coach's salary, then you shouldn't be in the NFL.

@Andre Bryant Yes Watt has had injuries last 2 years for sure but he also has 2 times the sacks and his first 5 years are way more dominant than Mack have been. 2 20 Sack seasons. Mack needs least 2-3 more Elite years to be in the HOF talk.
Watt was a special player until his injuries. Mack is younger and doesn't have back issues. He twisted his ankle, way different then watt. Mack is a force of nature and the most compete DE to come into the NFL in decades. If he avoids any catastrophic injuries he'll be a HOFer for sure
Gruden was hired to take all the heat and empty out the bums on the roster to erase the Oakland Curse and start fresh in Vegas. Need moneyto spread around to get talent.

they keep forgetting. Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll came from college. So when it comes to drafting. He coached these players, he scouted these players, he at least tried to recruit these players. So they have intimate knowledge of each class for a few years after leaving college. Gruden knows some some QB (very important) But he wasn't watching film on pass rushers leaving high school, or defensive backs that had their position changed. Very big difference. One none of them points out. Pete Carroll tried to bring Richard Sherman to USC, Jimmy Johnson tried recruiting Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irving WAS his player

Imagine if they paid Khalil Mack? What would their record be? 3-5? 4-4? Hamstrung in mediocrity with TWO (2) giant contracts and spinning their wheels, unable to maneuver financially.
This video didn't age well. Gruden is having the last laugh. The Raiders are trending in the right direction. Their rookie class is a homerun. They have cap space and a ton of picks in the draft. Gruden has rebuilt the Raiders with young and hungry players.

I don't question how much my boss makes at my job. even if he is overpaid, its the deal he made when he was hired. don't hate cause you don't have that pull or negotiating ability. basically shut up and do your job. the player performance shouldn't be based on what the coach makes.
You would be worried if your boss is making so much more money that your job couldn't afford to pay you and gave you a pink slip. That's the same worry these players have. Mark Davis overpaid Gruden and now doesn't have the money to spend on good free agents to build a winning team.

Done with the internet, prove that two of these mythical hundreds of so-called experts predicted the demise of the Raiders in 2017. Check out the Vegas over and under number for the Raiders, the odds they would win the division or win the Super Bowl. I guarantee you they were all in the top third of the league. I have a copy of Lindy's pro football 2017 preview in front of me and they picked the Raiders to win the division. Then get back online and admit you were wrong.

What ppl forget is the raiders owner is broke they couldn't afford to pay Mack so gruden was like let me get something for him before he can leave on his own in free agency and you get nothing period...

They also could’ve restructured Carr’s contract because we all know he doesn’t deserve it. Also the cap raises 10 mil a year. They could’ve made it work if they wanted too. He got rid of Mack because he thought his offense was gonna cover the flaw of the defense. He thought his offense was gonna be elite. And he thought the defense was gonna be average to below average without Mack. But reality has now hit both the offense and defense is absolutely horrendous.

Gruden had neither a first or second draft pick in his first two years in Tampa, which is hardly the recipe for a productive draft. Then he drafted Cadillac Williams with his first pick but his career was terminated by injury. You don't have the foggiest idea who Gruden drafted and you're just repeating with the Talking media Heads said. He also had a rapidly aging team that never got anywhere near a Super Bowl before his arrival or thereafter.
