A wild, untamed girl catches the eye of the lord of the manor and is convinced to marry him, only to rebel when she refuses to be commanded to follow court etiquette. Disguised as a boy, she runs off with his nephew, but runs into new and precarious situations, resulting in her realizing that she really does love the lord. i remember watching Mary Pickford in films as a boy, and i have not seen her in many decades. this is a real treat for me , brings back many memories for me. thank you ❤️🇨🇦

What a bad ass Pickford was! I happened to stumble upon a couple short movies from this time period (1909-1911) & because I find them fascinating, watched a few, and noticed this girl in each one not knowing she was Pickford (I'd never seen anything of hers pre-Fairbanks) but was so intrigued that I eventually discovered it was Mary Pickford and found myself noticing how modern her style of acting was for the time. And she almost forces the rest of the cast to step it up a bit to match her. You can tell she took control of every scene she was in and her directors, especially Griffith, let her go. I don't think he or any Director really knew how to direct a performance out of actors for films back then because there was no model to follow as there later would be. They all soet if made it up as they went along and eventually Pickford would be the model that everyone else would follow. Until sound came and generated a whole new style of acting, then the method later would again change acting style. Pickford definitely has some of the method in her performance in this little gem. She really goes off on everyone, and I mean REALLY GOES OFF! The way she charges, then pulls back, just to charge again and repeat the process until whoever pisses her off cowards on the floor! You just didn't see nice girls taking care of themselves that way. Yet she managed to also be the typical 1909 girl just enough to win the favor of her audience. What I also liked about her films is that you can follow the story because of how she plays her characters.
