As a long time devotee of this great pianist, you have my sincere thanks for finding and sharing this wonderful film of his artistry. Even at this late stage of his life, Backhaus was still among the best who ever sat at a piano.
Exceptional document that shows us the art of a great pianist. Perhaps Backhaus's best video, on the eve of his eighty-fifth birthday and a few months before his death. It seems to have been recorded in his home in Salzburg; is that so? Thank you for sharing it.
WOW! Where did you find this? I've been looking so long and hard for Backhaus video recordings, but there are so few: the two Beethoven concerto recordings, the fragment of the Brahms concerto, the silent film of the Chopin etudes, and now this. There has to be more out there. Thanks!
There is an interview film with Backhaus (in German) on RU-vid done in his home in 1967. In his playing room, he had two pianos, side by side, one a Bechstein, the other a Bösendorfer.
