Greetings from Stenhammar’s great grandson :) This is by far my favorite composition of his, and this particular performance of it is the one I keep returning to.
@@Bassic Interesting. Well it really is under appreciated. It should be played live much more than it is. I guess it just lost the popularity contest with concertos like Grieg's.
It took me many listenings to get into this work. It seems to have a number of peculiar moments. At 11:19 the music has built to an amazing crescendo...and then it seems as if the pianist is picking out that corny song, "Heart and Soul" from 1961 rock/pop music. Weird. Anyone else here hear that or am I the weird one?
Oh, now then!! What a composition! Passionate, intense late-Romantic piano concertos don't come much better, I think, than Stenhammar's 2nd. And in a simply stunning performance by the marvellous Cristina Ortiz (who I first came across during the late 1970s in a brilliant Villa-Lobos recording).
You might like C. Ortiz playing the Shoshtakovich P. Concerto #2. It is outstanding. (I think the recording might be with London Records. I can't be sure, though.)
Wilhelm Stenhammar 🌹 So this is the second Rachmaninoff. Beautiful piano cadences that pass up to the fortissima. Beautiful musical work, which together with the orchestra nice will please every musical heart... Marcela
