Such a good game. Not even really a rugby fan but what a match and what a finish. You still hear even from Aussie fans how good a match it was, even with the disappointment of losing a final. Just an electrifying finish, like time slowed for a moment.

That England team was just as hard as nails. Even Jonny Wilkinson who was the poster boy hit well above his weight.

true. They won the 2003 world Cup the same way South Africa won the last World Cup. Physical intimidation. The entire pack were beasts. And the backs were full of hard men as well - Tindall, Robinson, Wilkinson, Greenwood

I was in a remote Thailand restuarant and the TV was tuned into Australian commentry, well as a Brit it was entertaining, they kept repeating that the England team where old and worn out, and they had it in the bag. I would love to hear those Aussie commentators again. I was so excited by that drop goal.

yes it took the aussies by surprise, but, dawson was buried, and neil back was acting scrum half, and didn't know what to do with the ball, that's when the brilliant captain, martin, screamed for the ball, took it in, and never made a single yard, but what that did was ,it freed up matt, and gave jonny time to set, and then, over it goes

Furthermore, I don't see Ireland atop the record streak with NZ or England either.

I was 5 years old at centre parks. My dad missed most of the first half because I was meeting ‘santa’ 😂 Got to the sports bar which was packed to the brim and I went in the play area of course. Came out of the ball pit when it sounded like the roof had come off the place to see my dad getting picked up by some huge stranger as if my dad was the World Cup. Sad for you mate. Hope you've got over it by now. Bit like the Boks thrashing us last time. But we will survive. Cheers.

When Johnny nailed that drop goal my shout nearly blew all our windows out at home and gave my wife a heart attack.

Little did we know this would lead to 13 years of playing terribly.

It hasn't though, in 2007 we were unlucky with an ageing pack.

MrEd You are right, but remember that although England started bad in the 2007 RWC, they surprised everybody especially in the 1/4 final against Australia, and then going to the final again

That was of the best days of my life given it took place in the morning in UK and was at the pub in my 20s. It was long day!

Dawson - so cool under pressure, twice! He had to get that last dummy pass and Aussie offside line just right, nerves of steel! And the sheer nerve to dummy the first time and take those extra yards. Gotta hand it to him, may not have had the best skill set ever etc but mentally he was outstanding and that’s all you need to be a winner! Somehow more pride comes from attitude than does ability!
