I picked up this sportster for 600 backs and we are going to see if it runs. #motorcycle #harleydavidson #harley #biker #bikelife #willitrun #willitstart #rebuild #chopper #harleydavidsonmotorcycles #sportster #sportster1200 #ironhead
Quite a rare one, the very last iron head, spin on oil filter where the generator used to be. 883 bottom end with alternator charging. Not AMF in 1985.
It looks like the oil needed changed anyway, ha ha! At least your tools got lubricated. But hey, $600 for a running sporty? Just think of the possibilities!! Can't wait to see what you do with this one.
Thanks man. It definitely is going to have fresh oil now lol. I have a few ideas on what I’m going to do with this one. I’m thinking rusty crusty with a girder front end. Should be a fun build.
@@843chops i have 2 sheds and a porch, so i'm forever taking tools from one shed to the other, and forgetting which building has what tools. lol. I have 4 bikes.
@@jeromebreeding3302 I I to learned how to ride a harley, on my brother's 72 AMFXlch 1000. Always dropping 2 gear, had a weak transmission.but was fun to ride.
That was the last & BEST Ironhead. Not as you said @0:14 "85 Ironhead is a weirdo kind of motor" Instead of introducing new engine designs HD introduced IMPROVEMENTS year after year. Sportsters were born out of the 45 engine as the K Model in 52 with it`s engine & transmission as unit construction. In turn, with overhead valve heads it became the XL Sportster in 57. (XL meant "Experimental Lightweight") The changes up to 85 were in preparation for the new 86 Evo Sportster from the oil filter, the alternator & even the frame which had been improved in 82. Evo Sportster began in 86. Watching your vid & hearing your statement clued me that you didn`t know much about them & you confirmed it again when I saw you didn`t know how to start it. At that moment I said to myself, I hope it pukes oil all over him...& IT DID! ROFLMAO (Late 84 & 85 were the same identical machine, but late 84 being more rare)
Did you try pulling the choke out when you first started that I mean first try to start it take me to score a couple of quick squirts not a lot of starting fluid and I bet she'll come right to life
How do people find these bikes for cheap cash? I would love to find an old ironhead for cheap. Everything here in canada is minimum $5000 for any sportster, no one sells basket cases here that i can find.
It’s really easy for me, I know where everything is, and I have 5-10 of most tools so I don’t have to go back to the tool box constantly. I’ve got a sportster parts corner, a shovelhead area, panhead stuff is under the bench. Front ends lined up in 1 area, tires and wheels on the top shelf, frames kinda everywhere.
