It was good information on China. Can’t help but realize that China is keeping it’s people poor so that it can have predatory export policies. The CCP needs to allow their currency to raise, and allowing the world to sell more into China. This would make Chinese richer, and allow trade balances to make sense. Stop trying to take over every market like EVs.
Speech /= intelligence. Intelligence is the ability to solve complex problems. I don’t see any problem solving here, because it’s mostly knowledge already acquired. I’m not saying she’s not intelligent however
Holly shit!!!! I think I just saw a superstar in the making. Alice Han is knowledgeable, articulate, facts driven in her analysis. She's IMPRESSIVE all around! Please invite her back OFTEN!
I agree Alice Han is a level up, she presents with a very high level of Intelligence and Truth Density. Prof G just got schooled, and he is obviously impressed. I'm gonna watch her part again.

Alice has been very impressive. Great to listen to her.
Thank you Alice for a truly educational dive into the U.S.-China future relationship. Like Ed, you can take complex situations and put into laymen's terms for simpletons like me. Please start a podcast soon as the world desperately needs your input.
Fascinating conversation that is only possible in this format. This woman is an incredible source of information. Another incredible guest who deserves to be known. Great job @TheProfGShow
Brilliant good find Scott!!! You gave her a good platform, allowed her to share knowledge, insight and hypothesis uninterrupted. She was eloquent and a name I will now have to Google search for more!!! I used to be a Sinophile and interested in China affair and economics. She gave me a little of the spark again. Defo get her back with a periodic segment pls.!!
Thank you for covering the impact of China on the US economy as well as its own. I am currently in Malaysia viewing the territory threat by China of Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia... it's happening and continues to be tense. 😑 Go Ms. Han 🙌🏾
@@civicblade1 While there may be varying opinions, growing concerns among Malaysian citizens and politicians alike regarding China's actions in the South China Sea suggest that a more nuanced public view on this issue exists.
I really like this very focused topic episode for the Thursday show. It contrasts well with the more generalistic theme of the Monday one. There's less bouncing around, subject-wise.
@@civicblade1 Australians can visit China as tourists, but only if they're part of an organized tour group or have obtained an individual tourist visa (L-visa) through the Chinese embassy/consulate.
At 17:10 when the Prof said “reverse engineered” I think the more accurate descriptor of what he was thinking is a Sankey chart, not a reverse engineering activity.
Shtposted last week's softball question worshipping of unaccomplished but VIP Lina Kahn, this week ProfG gets back on track simply outstanding and the reason I listen to this great podcast
6:09 - Tesla (Musk) said cyber truck would be around $40K- its avg $85k … 3 years for fully autonomous cab no way! They can’t even roll out fully autonomous on current model cars! 😅
To be fair, inflation is up 25% since 2020. And Tesla always ramps with the most expensive trim option. Cyber truck prices will drop as they scale…but obviously not to $40k. Musk is always overly optimistic. My coworker just paid $90k for his F-150 w/ all the options. Cyber Truck might be ugly…and I’d be embarrassed to own one…but it’s an interesting experiment and the technology is unique. I like companies that take calculated risks. The metal exoskeleton alone is groundbreaking not to mention the 48V architecture which will migrate to their other models over time. 48V is just one example of Tesla not being afraid to do things differently…and better.
The ccp moves to date seem centred around reducing % of required reserves, with this liquidity being directed into restoring the shanghai index above 3,000. There is a concerning expansion of ccp control into equity markets, turning them into a political tool rather than a mechanism for evaluating what a company's shares are worth.
I have spent over a decade advising large corporates on China after also working for the Federal Trade Commission for the Australian Government. My observation is that most foreign businesses outside of Luxury Goods & Commodities, and temporarily industry that China wants to learn (see the collapse recently of the foreign car makers who mistakenly taught China to make cars, especially Tesla) lose money trying to establish in China. I was at an Alibaba event around a decade ago with them launching an office in Australia. I did an informal survey of the suppliers and hopeful supplier in the event and with the exception of 3 commodity businesses (at that time mostly dairy suppliers) all other companies were losing money in China on the hope it would turn around and become a cash cow. That never happened. China sells itself to the world very well and it has been a huge trap. Leading to my next point.
I think Alice Han's analysis missed a major point: if China launches war to reclaim Taiwan, it's not a crazy dictator's wild and insane idea that is not widely supported by the populous. She seem to suggest that most Chinese are either against or indifferent about Taiwan and Xi is the only person who's obsessed about it, and want to use it to build his legacy. Her smooth and eloquent persuasion just made this point more dangerous. Her notion is false. Taiwan situation strongly resembles that of the circumstances before American-Mexican war between 1846 and 1848. Basically Mexico refused to recognize the independence of Texas. But Mexico left Texas along and let its legal status in a "ambiguous" state. US on the other hand is eger to annex Texas to make it a legal state rather than a de facto state. Mexico basically had its hand force upon them - that if Texas remain lone star state, Mexico won't declear war, but if Texas is permanently changed its legal state, Mexico has no choice, despite that it knows it has no chance to win, to declear war on America. We all know the desasterous outcome that Mexico had endured. I think the Chinese political class is fully aware a history between the 1840s and 1950s to make the same mistakes (Chinese calls it "The century of humiliation). Today, it's very similar. China and the US made a compromise and created a "one-china policy" to define status quo - that Taiwan is a de facto state but not a real country. If this status quo is remained, nothing will happen. What China sees is that Taiwan, with certain forcse in the US that egg them on, is increasingly daring to push the envelop and change its status quo. From China's perspective, it has no choice but to prepare for the inevitable breakdown of the status quo. I think some people in the west understand this clearly, but they purposely lead the public to think that it is Xi who's crazy and obsessed with Taiwan. Perhaps it's a political view that force China to attack (kinda like to force Mexico to declear war) will be America's only hope to militarily defeat China and beat it back to the stone age. I don't know who's actually crazy and obsessed here.
"45% of EV owners not buying another EV" ... this is a media blitz by ICE companies that cannot pivot to EV. Can't wait for a huge market correction of 20% or more. Remember 2022 when META NFLX TSLA lost so much value and I simply backed the truck. I want this again.
Like the great Peter Lynch said "There's always something to worry about" with markets. But I suppose if you're net buying SPY or VFINX for the next 30-40 years, lower prices are better when they transpire.
That Ellon Musk Robotaxi Thing was a failed attempt to pump Trump campaign and for us to forget that Ellon cringe moment... God! I still have that image of Ellon jumping like a moron in my brain!
Stimulus will not work long term, but works good to prop up the stock Market. The Chinese stimules is just the first of many. Every country will do their own stimuli proping up stock market, good for me, bad for most others 😊
We will never get manufacturing back in the US. We make basically nothing & less people here make any living wage. But the top of the heap makes hideous profits. Unsustainable.
Tesla's Robo taxi; to realise value, Full Self Driving (FSD) will have to be finished meaning no drivers required in the vehicle when under way on public roads. This is one of the reasons why the Tesla CEO pushed the delivery out to 2026+ Tesla is struggling with the last few % of getting FSD to reach this goal. Tesla may also have to reintroduce LiDAR (radar) to get there so it works in all-weather/road conditions etc. I do hope Tesla finishes FSD, it would be one fantastic achievement.
Elon is a fraud! He has sold Full Self Driving which means nothing. Spend thousands to have to monitor FSD 100% of the time. There is no reason to believe that Tesla will be the first to deliver. Every automaker has caught up with Tesla. I would by the Ionic 5, or EV6 before touching Tesla crap!
A Chinese nuclear submarine just sank off the coast of China. Due to shoddy construction. It had less than 100 hours on it. To put that into perspective. The average deployment of a Virginia class submarine is 120 days. Which of you do the math is exactly 2880 hours. I know that china will invade Taiwan but I think 1/2 the boats will sink by themselves. 31:04
Alice is articulate enough to convince you of her far fetched speculations. Only people with direct information from these political and economic leaders will have advantage in the markets. She’s just reading into information one could get from the Wall Street journal. She should read out our horoscopes in the next episode I think she would be a master at that.
I think you guys have a bias against Tesla. The stock after the event dropped because investors wanted a $25k car…but that’s not what the event was about. Robo-taxi isn’t so crazy if you consider driverless autonomy beginning with round-trips between a hotel and airport. Then you scale. I’ve been playing with FSD on my wife’s model Y and it’s good enough that I rarely have to intervene. I can drive an hour and not intervene once. Not doubt Musk is putting all his chips on this…but I think it’s possible.
It has been close for a decade! Intervening every hour in so far from where they need to be! Clown Elon just voted himself a 55 billion compensation package. Tesla has not come out with a new car in 5 years! I am glad I sold all my remaining Tesla stock after Ed share!
@@TrendyStone Do you expect one of those robots to babysit your kids in the future, or hang out for a good time? Maybe Musky can add his voice. That would make you happy, right 😉
It's amazing that you manage to say these things about Tesla even though I know you know better. Your point about the failure of the event is clear and correct, but not seeing the opportunity in the bot and in the robotaxi is just beneath your intellect, there's no way people with your level of success can't see the impact of this tech... Of course news of this tech will cause -/+10-20% of stock price, that's completely reasonable given the impact. It's much more impactful in terms of value if the robotaxi comes out in 2025 or 2027, it's worth at least as much as Ford's total market cap, even as a speculation. As a certainty it's worth a lot more
