I take a trip down memory lane as I get in the driving seat of the BMW M140i for the first since 2020! This time I have a manual gearbox to contend with which is a very unique experience for a past M140i owner with a ZF8 gearbox!
But this has really changed my approach to the M140i, it drives much more playful and fun than the auto!

Max. The M140i is surely a classic already? What a car! Nothing compares! RWD. That engine! And let us not forget the looks! The M140i [in fact all this series of BMW 1 Series in 3 door hatch look fantastic!] Dimensions and just the use-ability of these amazing cars. Without doubt on so many people's 'must own list. BMW at its best. Love it! A real 'Q' car.

I have an f20 and dislike the steering feel. a reviewer who tried the 135i also disliked the steering feel

Got a 3dr manual shadow edition registered August 2018 without the GPF. Owned M2 in OG and Competition but always come back to a 140. Best bang for buck even in standard form and with a plethora of mods to choose from if needed.

Owned one, great cars… when modified. It’s the perfect project car. By no means an m-car, BUT, there’s loads of things you can do to these. Would I do it again? Too right! I’ve owned a few cars over the years and this one above all provided many smiles.

Yh agree with @duncan94 It will hopefully NOT be considered a classic and will be easily available cheap in the near future, it’s just a 1 series with a B58 it’s a fantastic recipe without having anything special about it… the previous gen isn’t a classic, classics should generally be 20+ years old 😂

M140i manual plus 3 door. Had mine over 6 years and 98k miles. Manually shifting and then that big shove of power. Why I haven't been able to let her go.

Possibly to a certain buyer...but they're never real M car's that's the downside...I own E92 M3 DCT LCI I of 500 mineral white...hopefully that will become a classic...👊👊🔥🔥

M140 does 0 to 60 in 4.2 standard bmw say check out Calvin car channel he got a 0 to 60 in 3.9 stage 1 maybe se his boys for map

it is very popular car, a lot was produced but a lot of them have been written off as well. The only hatchback ever made with the b58. BMW stop producing these in 2019. With low mileage and in pristine condition it could be a future classic.

Really can't see it becoming a classic with how many are about. Potentially in 30+ years with sub 5k miles but the car doesn't handle well and that is all a hot hatch is, lacks a lot other than the engine compared to all other hot hatches.

Yh completely agree, maybe if the world goes super tame going forward it will be viewed as crazy 20 years from now etc, but it really is just a 1 series with the B58 fitted

Of course, look at current classics. You have 325 e30 that's a classic. A peugeot 205 is a classic. Once these get old, rusted out. Crashed and scrapped because of future regulations that I guarantee will remove a lot of the combustion engines off the road once this gay electric thing takes over, then a lot of performance petrol and diesels will become classic

An incredible car for the money but certainly won't be a 'classic'. The same way the E9x 335i is an incredible car (minus the reliability issues that came with the N54) but it won't be a classic.

M140i will always be a classic but the manual on this is 💩 compared to ZF. Not worth the getting the manual when you're paying that price for it when all the fun is with the ZF. But I guess to each their own.

@@francescosaia4475 It comes down to personal preference what transmission you prefer, but when it comes to the M140i everyone and their dad knows it has to be automatic that ZF completely annihilates the garbage manual.

I am a manual guy through and through, but the m140i is a let down. A manual was a must when shopping for my m140 a few months ago, but something about the clutch/gearbox is just not right. I've had the clutch delay valve deleted which made it slightly better, but still leaves much to be desired. Granted I can buy a short shifter kit and will be getting a 550i clutch down the line when I'm ready for more power, but the modern BMW manuals really are not all that once the novelty dies down
