Note: Mossberg contacted me to say that my review copy that I received in June of last year (yes, the one in this video) had a pre-production trigger. They have apparently improved the trigger and de-stiffied the mag release. That's according to Mossberg so trust but verify before purchase.
With a solid torture test like this one and after hearing that Mossberg had a pre-production trigger in this pistol and they have improved the trigger, this looks like a sub compact pistol worth buying. The price is good and Mossberg makes a great shotgun/Shockwave. Great video. 👍
Great abuse video. Someone should have worn their gimp suit. I've seen pictures of hop. She doesn't have a back seat. Keep up the somewhat good vids. 😁😂
I'd like to see a lot of these guns run through this type of gauntlet just to see where their limits are. The optics would also be interesting to see. CT died about halfway? through, how long would a Leupold, Aimpoint, or Triji last?
I own a 500. It’s a good tool. Like their products, love their company. When Remington was putting “don’t put a mag tube extension on your 870” dimples in the mag tube, Mossberg was reengineering the 500 into the 590 to increase capacity.
Yeah, I think I was wrong all along to go Remington. It was just my first shotgun so I developed a bias towards them. I still have a police SBS that I love, but in retrospect, I should have cast my lot with Mossberg.
@@tfbtv I never understood the control layout of the 870. That’s why I love the 88. Safety forward of the trigger guard, bolt release rearward. Both accessible with trigger finger.
As a maverick 88 owner, it's a sin to buy their shotguns too. That said it was like the apartment protecc 3000 in my college town, I knew at least 3 other people that had one and they weren't typical "gun people" either
Wait, you ran a brand new gun 1000 rounds, without cleaning at any time, and it survived and prevailed with only 1 questionable malfunction even with all that abuse? Pretty amazing… Great production as always! Till next time!
I had trigger housing pin shear off on my brand new 590A1. Sent the whole trigger group back to Mossberg and they replaced it no questions ask. They also sent me a replacement XS ghost ring sight that fell off (my fault for not loctiting it). I have a 930 SPX that has been great. Mossberg stands by their products and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase from them again.
This could be as much a trial for the Mossberg as it is the red dot it seems with how much abuse that thing is taking. Crimson trace did fairly well after being stomped, thrown, and whiplashed.
I feel like crimson trace took the money they made on subpar products, listened to the consumer criticisms, and reinvested into decent qc and tooling. They really started out as a Walmart/rural king company that made $40 lasers that you wouldn't put on an airsoft gun, but some of their new optics are looking pretty decent
I can’t believe you ran this pistol out of the box “WITHOUT ANY LUBE” they come from Mossberg dry! I would never shoot ANY firearm without first lubing it! This was a way beyond torture, torture test! If you would have put a mild amount of lube on that pistol I’m sure it would run 2,000rds.without any failures,it’s that good! WELL DONE MOSSBERG! The MC2sc 👍
have the bigger brother of this, the glock 48 sized MC2C, and I love it. friends always rag to just get a G19 and enigma, or at least a 365xl, but as much as both of those are great, I really love my mossberg. two tone is classy, trigger smooths out remarkably with dry fire, ergos are great, and it just works. perfect carry gun for me and will have to be the one I have for the foreseeable future considering the mag ban in WA coming down the pipe in July. between this and my P10F for belt work, I really don't have any other need for more striker fired semiautos. Glocks are great for ease of finding parts and accessories, but I prefer having most of what I want right out of the box, rather than shelling out hundreds more for better sights, triggers, etc
I have a mc2c as well actually replaced my Glock 19 with it. I got a Glock because everyone told me I should get one. I really didn't like that gun. I've had the mc2c four years now. No issues
10:15 I think James just invented a new sport- handgun golf. A series of targets are set up on a grassy range with trees and overgrowth (the "rough). The competitors throw their guns downrange, the closer to the targets the better, and you don't want to throw it in the rough because it could block your view of the target. Whoever gets the most hits wins.
Super awesome endurance test for a true winner of a gun. That was some pro testing there James, reminds me of those 80s early 90s advertisement endurance test for the Glocks. A++++ job like always James.
My first gun was a Mossberg pump 12 gauge at 18yrs old. Would skeet shoot with 3 friends. My Mossberg was the only shotgun in the group that NEVER jammed vs my friends guns with their Remingtons and other brands. First hand experience of the quality of a Mossberg.
I own this pistol and I love it. I actually like it better than my AREX Delta M Gen 2 because of the slide cut depth. As for holsters as you mentioned, try the Orpaz T41. It's adjustable and fits like a glove. Now if I could only find more mags....
I actually just bought this gun after researching the heck out of SC & Micro 9s. Waiting for it to arrive at my FFL. Your review helped confirm it was a good purchase. 👍
I have an MC2C, but my local gun shop suggested a tan leather holster just like the one on your desk in the background of your video. They said it was for a Glock but if I dressed my pistol with oil every night and put it in the holster; after a while it would form to the gun. It works great!
Most similar shaped leather holsters also adjust if you wrap the gun in a sandwich bag and shove it mostly in the holster and leave it for a day. Then the holster fits perfectly when you put the gun in there normally without the bag. That's the kind of break in I had to do for my shoulder rig for my 92FS.
Bought a pistol grip Mossberg 500 when I was 21 33yrs ago from Service Merchandise for like $259, never a failure or problem, it was the first firearm I ever purchased. I was kind of surprised Mossberg got into the micro carry pistol market with the glut of guns now but hey they make one helluva shotgun imo! If I needed a micro 9 (I don’t) I might check it out!?! 🤷♂️👌
Whilst running through the bayou may not be everyone's plan for a good weekend, those in humid environments, or just sweaty, chubby AIWB, may look at the rust differently. It could end up being an issue.
I purchased the MC2C based on my research and before ever seeing this video. After watching this video, it confirms I was not wrong in my purchase. My 2nd choice was the Sig P365 XL. Already have the P365SAS Love it, but not comfy without a manual safety for carrying one in the chamber while CCing. Mossberg checked all the boxes plus it has the softest recoil out of all of them IMO. Thank you for the confirmation. I'm not an accessory guy but yes, need a holster!
I own a 590 and a 500. Both had a the same problem when I bought them. Was shooting them with a mix of rounds, slugs, buckshot, and birdshot. But when I fired off a round, the shell was stuck in the barrel and did not extract. With the 590 I had to take apart the barrel and push the shell out with a stick. After that it ran fine. With my 500 I was shooting birdshot only at the range, pump was locked forward after the shot fired. I mortared it and it was fine after. Still love both of them though. Hadn’t had a problem since. Though wir he my 590 the safety is very stiff
Take it to a gunsmith. There is a chance you need your chamber polished. As a gunsmith I have polished many shotgun chambers, even pumps. The plastic expands and sticks to the chamber wall and produces an increased dwell time or hangs up if it's rough. Unfortunately with common lower powered ammunition this results in the firearm not cycling in S/As. Give it a shine job and many of them run on cheap ammo. Make sure gas ports are clear and the gun is clean before doing this. Many guns are just dirty and dry.
@@povips yes, some semi-auto shotguns have have gas ports. They can get powder residue build up in them, resulting in a short stroke and failure to cycle.
These have great entertainment value! I wonder if you could standardize these and run more guns through this scenario? Get someone to do the actual tossing, shooting, drowning, mudding, and James can narrate it in his usual style! GOLD!
When you pick up something, whether it's a tool or a kitchen utensil or a gun, you can feel quality (or lack thereof) when you pick it up. This gun screams build quality when you hold it. Machine work is 1st class, fit and finish are excellent, the feel in the hand is excellent. Can't say enough positive about the gun. James covered reliability, I'd like to mention Mossberg service. I called Mossberg about a technical question, I'm a gunsmith and I was connected to a person that knew the gun in just under 3 minutes. All my questions were answered. Service turn around times are reasonable about 2 weeks. If you didn't know, O.F. Mossberg is still a family owned American company, please consider that along with your decision to buy. I found myself in a position where I have all the currently available micro9 and sub compact 9 guns out there (I even own a SCCY) so why not try the Mossberg? 449.00 at my local dealer and it's as good as my other, more expensive models. Buy this gun.
I just scored the mc2c with night sights and 2 ten round mags for 304$. This video convinced me to buy the mc2c unbelievable performance and reliability I have a mossberg shotgun that has been super reliable throughout the years.Glock, sig, smith and wesson eat your heart out.
For some reason, the Mossberg pistols are criminally ignored. I suspect buyers are put off by the unconventional take down, which some RU-vid reviewers make a fuss about, although it allows easy cleaning of the striker channel. I picked up a MC1sc for $250! You can find the larger (and better) MC2c for under $400! I bought the new MC2sc for $360!!! I carry one every day. These are great guns. Thanks for the great review! And yes... magazine selection absolutely sucks. Fortunately, the holster for my MC1sc works well enough, until I can find something better.
MC2c and MC2sc, two of my favorites. High grip ratio for point shooting. STS takedown is excellent for keeping striker channel clean. Absolutely love the low RMSc cut on the SC. Wish they'd push the envelope and deploy a HK like paddle mag release.
In the Mossberg shotgun bits, was that old "Magnum P.I." footage being used? I've not seen shorts that short on a man since the late 70's early 80s... Pro tip... Manscape if you're gonna sport those again! Great content once again guys! keep up the great work!
At the original press release event at Gunsite, Ryan and Hop shot exclusively Critical Duty +P ammo through the MC2SC (it was all that was available at the time). Each gun ran 500+ rounds with no issues. -Ryan
Black Scopion makes 4 Holsters and Mossberg has 1 which is made by DeSantis for the sc. I have never owned anything Mossberg but I am really impredded with my sc so far. Hop's review got me interested in the sc by the way. 14+1, optic cut, perfect size IMO, and made in the USA! Oh yeah it's reasonably priced as well. Thanks for the review guys.
I have the MC2SC and it’s great. Ergos reliability accuracy amazing combo with holosun (I even like the trigger). Not sure about the safety model but since I got one without safety- doesn’t matter
Hey James, great content on the Mossberg. Ive been wondering if you ever going to get around to doing an honest review on the Springfield XDM elite OSP and how it stacks up against some of the more budget suppressor ready 9mm polymer guns out there like the CZ P09/7. thanks
Do they even have a 'gun section' anymore? All the Wal-Mart here sells is obscure rifle ammo for things nobody hunts with. I can find 45-70, but no 30-06, .308, .243, 6.5 CM etc. and not even so much as a BB or airsoft gun.
Great review video. I'll have to get one, but probably won't replace my P365 which I have had adopted as my number2 EDC. My Colt Officer Series 80 is still my favorite EDC though :), even if it causes me to limp. Love your shows.
So… I bought one after watching your video and also out of curiosity. (MC2C, not the SC). I believe in Mossberg shotguns. I’ve never had one fail and I shoot shotguns A LOT. Initial impression… it’s way better than I thought it would be. For the money, I’m impressed. Mine has been a stellar shooter and 100% reliable.
I agree. The trigger got better after shooting about a hundred rounds through it, but for me, getting used to the flat trigger was the issue. I don’t have a Shield to compare it to, but I have the M&P 2.0 compact and several glocks to compare it to, and while not horrible, it has a uniqueness all it’s own.
Love my 870, its not the design that’s was the issue it was poor management that caused Remingtons problems. Not that it matters to me I’m more of a “I want one of each” gun guy.
Does anyone know Mossberg is giving a FREE Black Arch Rev-Con IWB holster for purchasing their MC2sc? Normal price $55. You have to fill out an online form including Proof of purchase a picture of the box label & your info. You get a E-mail telling you it’s coming with $0 cost to you! Not even shipping charges, that’s pretty damn good! Thanks for the extra Benny Mossberg!
I was kicking the tires doing research on this gun and almost passed until I saw this video. I must say it was impressive to say the least and convinced me to purchase it. I don’t have it yet, but just ordered one of the small holsters from Black Scorpion.WHAT A VIDEO!
i'm actively looking to buy a 940 cuz of your review. can't find them anywhere. i'd settle for a 590s if i needed to. i've already got an 870... but want an upgrade.
Mossberg is a family owned business so it looks like an Optics Ready MC2 full size model tactical version. And send the slide and barrel to Mag-Na-Port to be ported for about $167 less shipping costs.
James. One of the very best holsters I use all the time from Florida is VEDDER HOLSTER and they offer their legendary Lite Tuck IWB for this pistol. Just saying.
