The American needs to get proactive. Liberty should already be in discussions to join by 2026. Get to 20 schools. Thinking that is the magic number. Take the best from the Sun Belt and maybe one or two from the MAC to distinguish a clear separation between the AAC and CUSA, MAC and the SBC.

The new top 4 main Bowls for G5 would be the Holiday Bowl,Citrus Bowl, Liberty Bowl and Alamo Bowl. Probably implemented in a 12 team G5 playoff.

You'd definitely get opt outs more than likely it'd be schools that are more academically focused. It would have to be football only so schools that opt out for football could still compete in conference for other sports. There would have to be a base revenue that does not include TV revenue and likely a shared media revenue between all opt ins. It would also likely look like other sports where only certain conferences end up being the top tier. The question is how many schools afford to opt in?

One note I’m not sure you saw: so dellenger added that any D1 school would be allowed to compensate NIL directly but the “FAS” as you call it has that $30k per athlete trust fund requirement. Also, I think FBS needs to keep the bowls for tv money. The bowls could be playoff game sites though instead of just bowl games.

I am rapidly losing interest in College Sports. If the arrogant P5 want to be a professional sports league so be it... but changes must be made to the bylaws to reflect that they are no longer "amature sports" and create a players association or union to administer the players interest... can't have it both ways. As a resident of a liberal state I will make every effort to make sure that new legislation is adopted!

I expect the P4, Big East (including UConn), Gonzaga, OSU/WSU/MW, and AAC to opt in. Non-football schools can opt in and some will.

Holy UD Podcast, Trey!!! I had to listen 2X to make sure I got all of your points. Here is my best effort: 1: JMU was the better 1ST Time HC position, WHEN, it was FCS. Now as FBS, the initial competition level is higher but the resources are not as available. Playing FBS level weekly will also be more difficult. Therefore, the Tulane job will be a better career opportunity. I would expect P5 level successful Coordinators in addition to successful G5 HCs from the MAC, CUSA, and possibly the Sun Belt to apply for the Tulane HC position. 2: The 3 Football subdivisions does make some sense after 2026. All 3 should be self governing. If this happened, then the FBS Conferences could set their own rules. If the highest ranked FBS team(s) were still allowed in the CFP, then great, the FBS Conferences could then make Conference games 1ST, followed by a Championship Weekend, which would give the FBS OOC Selection Committee 3 days to assign OOC games to balance SOS for all FBS Teams starting locks for Bowls and ending with Teams already disqualified from Bowls. This would give the CFP Selection Committee the best real rankings at the end of the regular season without adding any games. If FBS schools were excluded from the CFP, then a different format for end of season would occur. The same FBS Selection Committee for OOC games would run its own FBS CFP. The Top 4 FBS Teams would play in 2 Bowls in an FBS Semifinal games played the Tuesday after the Army-Navy Game. The FBS Championship Bowl game would the Friday of the following week. The Champion Team would play in the NY6 Bowl. The FBS Selection Committee would also coordinate all the other Bowl assignments with the FBS Conferences. The FBS Selection Committee would also try and get additional sponsors for the FBS CFP. Should the FBS Teams ever be excluded from the NY6 game, then the FBS CFP would expand to 8 Teams, adding more Bowl games on different days, and the FBS Championship game will be a New Year’s game proceeded by a parade. 3: There is no special criteria to pick a successful HC. This is especially true in football where HC hire risk is compounded by OC, DC, and even STC risk. Usually only the HC determines how HALF the Football Staff budget is spent. Syracuse hiring a non-Coordinator is a huge risk at the P4 Level. They are not even sure the HC can mentor the OC, DC, or STC if game days go sideways. Nevertheless, this could also be a HR hire since the HC was the nation’s top Coach recruiter. Not many P5 AD will gamble their careers making such a higher. It is bewildering to me why ADs do not want input on OC, DC, and STC hires. And for all of you wonder why I mention STC so much, most STC are responsible for a Unit scoring 1/3RD of a teams points. Therefore, I still believe a significant number of FAS HCs will come from the FBS Level. 4: Schools directly paying players is a dog that will NOT hunt. Most schools accept tax deductible contributions. The IRS will revoke schools tax exempt status as soon as the 1ST check goes out. Additionally, this will raise Title IX issues if all student athletes are not equally paid. This is why NIL has no tax exempt status and is not directly considered school funds. Look, Reporters from Conferences other than the B1G and PAC12 hated their alliance and the Rose Bowl. As a son of an Ohio State Alumni, every year we sang the Buckeye Battle Cry and watched THE GAME. Later, we watched the B1G Championship and then the Rose Bowl. The winner of the Rose Bowl was the National Champion. Reporters could write whatever they wanted, for most fans the Rose Bowl determined the National Champion. Well, Reporters suckered the B1G into partially giving up the Rose Bowl. Now Reporters see the B1G getting its status back and maybe even the Rose Bowl as the B1G Championship Game. Therefore, they are now trying to bust Conferences like the B1G with this semi professional football league concept. The B1G should tell Reporters and anyone else not B1G to kiss off!!!

I would only support the three tiers if there's a realistic path for moving up to FAS. I don't like the idea of the FAS closing ranks and being by invitation only. And in all Honesty there's a bunch of bottom dwellers that are already there in the FAS. Seriously Wake Forest?? Two teams in Mississippi ?? I would think that the TV partners will look to potential rather than current status. The larger alumni bases and TV markets should win out at the end of the day regardless of their current conference affiliation today.

Wake Forest wouldn’t opt out for sure. Loads of money, influence and big money donors and they probably overall have the best athletic facilities in the ACC.

As the gulf between the haves and have nots widens I think we are going to find that there are fewer teams than everyone thinks that would be "FAS" caliber. Maybe only 40 - 60 teams currently have the money and interest to pony up the funds it is going to take. Many schools are going to pass on joining the "FAS" because these institutions are still ran by people that have come from the education ranks after all. And I would side with them, as at some point we are supposed to be a University and not the NFL G League. Personally I hope they do form their own "higher" league. The reason is because I don't think it is going to turn out as lucrative as they think it will be and the rest of us may be able to return our programs to what College Football used to be. These pay for play schools would completely become a lower level pro league and they would likely lose the pageantry that made College sports still interesting to watch despite being a lower level of play as compared to the pros. When that transformation is complete many fans like myself will completely check out from watching those schools. I already have little interest for watching most P5 schools as it is. Its the same reason I am not excited to watch an NBA G League game. In short, a new "FAS" division has a high likelihood of being a complete money pit for the taxpayers and/or alumni/students that are unlucky enough to be duped into buying into it. There is a ceiling to how much the market is willing to pay for second tier sports and given most schools are government ran it will get well passed that point before it is reined in, we are likely already passed it.

If you make the G5s "lesser", you immediately lose fan interest and less media revenue will follow. There is a reason most have no interest in FCS football, and if the G5s aren't allowed to be in the CFP, it will basically become FCS in perception. So, i disagree with take

It absolutely would be damaging for wake forest or BC or Kansas to not join the “FAS” because their fans are used to being in a power league. There’s too much history. They will figure out a way financially to join.
