I also tried this with an Athlon 3000G in my HTPC, which performs very similarly to the G5400 but uses about 15 watts less power on average. The 3000G never throttled, and ended up topping out at 84c. You could definitely run either indefinitely without a heatsink. I've been tempted to try it again with the 4GHz overclock I run it at, but I like it too much to punish it now lol.

It all depends really, room temperature, usage ect ya strap an air conditioner to the side of your PC ofcourse it'll stay cool, but does that mean you should?

This could work if u dont wanna put a thermal paste or a cooler and just need to update Bios of an old motherboard. Boot, enter into Bios, update mother, take the oldie, put the new processor, and et Voila. Thanks, this turned out to be quite interesting.

My laptop ran for 6 months w/o a fan at 85 to 99 deg, until I replaced the heatsink and fans. Now it's working fine. By the time it dies, it will be time for an upgrade anyways. intel core cpus can survive near tjmax operation for years...

i had to do an emergency boot into BIOS when I already took my cpu and wraith cooler out of the tower. I had no more thermal, and already cleaned the old paste off everything to prepare for a new install. Popped the ryzen 5 1600 back into the mobo and did about 5 minutes of BIOS stuff with no cooler. Not a single problem. Now actually USING the computer.....might wanna get the eggs and bacon ready.

Thank you. Your video helped because I’m testing an old athlon X4 with no thermal paste and it’s always at 100% cpu usage. I was wondering if it was if it was thermal throttling causing high cpu usage but I now know the usage will drop if it were throttling. I was thinking it would show 100% usage even when throttling itself

So if I place my new(used eBay thermal take water 3) cooler onto my motherboard and let's say it was faulty,...it wouldn't damage anything straight away...is that correct???..(always cautious of used stuff off eBay lol)
@TechforTechs
@TechforTechs 2 года назад
We have seen it quiet of often where the pump Dies on a watercooler, and the PC will run fine until the CPU is stressed, BUT saying that there is a high chance of damage the longer you run it like that. You may get away with it on a low end CPU but a tip end one will get hotter faster.
@billybodgit6281
@billybodgit6281 2 года назад
@@TechforTechs as long as there's enough time between powering on the pc and not seeing anything happen,to give me enough time to shut it down before any damage then hopefully I should be ok... not changed my water cooler for a while as it's always been reliable....but I have just won a cheeky bid on eBay for a thermal take water 3 argb 360 cooler ( I have the thermal take view 31 RGB case anyway) and just upgraded motherboard and CPU to a gigabyte z590 gaming X/ i5 10600 k......won the cooler for £34 including delivery lol... nobody was bidding on it,and they'd only had it 6 month's...so if everything is good that's a bargain 😁

Brill test, nice one. Puts many, including myself, at ease seeing as I'm using zip ties to hold a stock intel heatsink coupled with a noctua fan onto an i5 😅 I'm using a mini itx Silverstone Sugo case with bugger all room inside, so I'm extremely limited with coolers. I tried an intel stock cooler, but broke the fan trying to mount it. Those things are SO shite. But at least I can use the heatsink now 👍😜

Should the pc have restarted because of the overheating when it reached 99+? why it didn't so? sorry for low english tho.
@davidolsen1222
@davidolsen1222 3 года назад
Older style CPUs would temperature alert and basically have the bios cut them off, but with modern CPU thermal throttling it's less important and should scale down the speed the processor goes at, the throttling however expects you to have a heat sink, even if the fan blew out, it would have been much safer to throttle that CPU much earlier when the temperature was spiking that fast. But, yes, over 100 will start melting things and in theory that stuff is supposed to tank the speed and save the CPU. Older methods would have shut off the computer.
@CanizaM
@CanizaM 25 дней назад
@@davidolsen1222 Old AMD CPUs would actually emit smoke and burn out. There's a TomsHardware video on here about that. Old Intel ones will shut off, newer ones slow down to keep themselves cool. ...and by "newer" I mean anything within the last ~23 years.

So I have a question. My pump broke on my Aio, my pc would turn off right when I turn it on and I didn’t know it was trying to tell me something. I may have used the pc a couple hours for about 15-30 days with basically no cooling. I just gave my pc in for repair because I couldn’t find the issue. They said they don’t have a mb to test out my 7700k and they don’t have a spare 7700k to test out my mb. They suggested that I bring in a mb after purchasing it to see if it’s the cpu. How screwed am I, apparently my mb was showing ram issue light on it but they said there couldn’t find any issue and believe it’s my mb acting up
@ChaoticRupture
@ChaoticRupture Год назад
If the stock cooler broke (Fans don't spin) can I just leave the cooler attached to the cpu and just swap thermal paste every now and then and have it work that way? with just the heatsink pressing the thermal paste to the cpu...
@TechforTechs
@TechforTechs Год назад
You may get away with it on a very low end CPU for short periods, but ideally you need airflow going over the heatsink to blow the heat of it, otherwise the heat will just keep increasing
