Come and join me as I explore work by AI Art evangelist Rafik Anadol at The Serpentine North in London. Anadol has built a Large Nature Model to allow AI to 'dream and hallucinate' about nature and create art based on the rainforests and coral reefs of the world. The result covers the gallery walls in images produced by AI.

Thx for the vid. Saw his live stream from the opening on Instagram, looked amazing. And yes he knows how to play social media and that makes him so popular I think and besides that he deserves it. When i saw him in Düsseldorf his art had a very calming effect on me. Today I saw videos of the Rotterdam exhibit and you dive into a room surrounded by his AI art. We should welcome this new form of expression and I don't think it will ever take the place of street art by Banksy, great paintings by Raffael, Boticelli, Gerhard Richter, Picasso, Dali, Duchamp or performance art by Abramovic, installations by Jenny Holzer or Ai WeiWei. Ai WeiWei had an interessting project, he and AI answered 81 questions that were kind of philosophical. Every day a billboard on Picadilly showed the answers of Ai WeiWei and Chat GPT, interessting project.Today I saw videos of the Rotterdam exhibit and you dive into a room surrounded by his AI art.Today I saw videos of the Rotterdam exhibit and you dive into a room surrounded by his AI art.

I definitely welcome it - I think it has huge potential and, having seen some of UVA's AI work, I can see glimpses of where it can take us - we are just at the beginning right now. I must seek out the Düsseldorf show online because that sounds fantastic. Thank you for watching the vlog.

You can turn up on the day but may have to queue at certain times. It's got a lot of hype from social media.

It seems pretty clear to me that AI isn't a 'threat' to art in the way that many people seem to think it is. It will simply become, and has already started becoming, a tool for artists to use to create new and exciting possibilities, much like the invention of photography and its introduction into the art world. Personally, I'm not really a fan of Anadol's work - I think alot of the appeal for most people comes from seeing big shiny images on a big shiny screen which seems a little vacuous to me. It's as you said in the video - I would of enjoyed this exhibition just as much, if not more, if it was just real high quality footage of nature being shown on the screens. To me the AI generated images pail in comparison to the beauty of the real nature that we already have all around us, and the notion that its nature 'seen through a machines eyes' is just redundant to me - The machine isnt really interpreting anything, its just a set of 1's and 0's that were written by humans in the first place anyway. However, thats not to say that AI can't be used to make great art, I truly believe it can, I just haven't seen it yet from Anadol, or anyone else really.

Thank you for watching and for a really interesting comment. I agree with both points - definitely an exciting tool for artists but also not much more than just recycling ideas, for now. I do think that machines will 'learn' what pushes our buttons as human art viewers and so it will become more emotionally engaging. This was my first viewing of Anadol's work in a gallery and I thought the concept and ambition did not match the actual output.
