I Actually asked ChatGPT about this and this is what it said: " While it's true that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have the potential to automate certain tasks performed by data analysts, it's unlikely that they will completely replace the need for human analysts. Data analysis requires not just the ability to crunch numbers, but also to interpret and draw insights from data. Human analysts bring a level of context, intuition, and creativity to the process that machines can't replicate. They can also handle the more complex and ambiguous tasks that machines aren't yet capable of. Moreover, while AI and ML can automate some parts of the data analysis process, they still require human input and oversight to ensure that the results are accurate and relevant. In fact, data analysts can leverage these tools to enhance their work and make better decisions. Overall, it's more likely that AI and ML will augment rather than replace the role of data analysts, allowing them to focus on more complex and high-value tasks." Just to be sure, I had a couple of follow up questions: Me: "Are you sure about that? I'm currently studying to be a data analyst and you would make me cry if I ended up devoting a lot of time only to learn later that finding an entry-level job has become almost impossible because of AI." ChatGPT: "I understand your concern, but it's important to keep in mind that the widespread adoption of AI and automation technologies in the workforce is a gradual process that will take time to fully develop. While it's true that AI and ML have the potential to automate certain aspects of data analysis, they cannot replace the unique human abilities of critical thinking, creativity, and context that are essential for making sense of complex data sets. In fact, the increasing use of AI and automation in data analysis is likely to create new opportunities for data analysts, as they will be needed to oversee and manage these technologies, interpret the results they produce, and apply them to real-world problems. It's also worth noting that AI and automation technologies are not foolproof and can produce inaccurate results if they are not properly designed and implemented. This is why the role of human oversight and validation will remain critical for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data analysis. So while the field of data analysis may evolve as a result of AI and automation, it's unlikely that these technologies will make the role of data analysts obsolete. With the right skills and training, there should still be ample opportunities for data analysts in the years to come." Me: "Maybe you just don't want to hurt my feelings." ChatGPT: "As an AI language model, I don't have feelings, but I understand your concern. I can assure you that the role of data analysts is still highly valued and in demand across many industries. While AI and automation may change the nature of the job, they are unlikely to replace it entirely. In fact, the rise of AI and automation technologies is creating new opportunities for data analysts who can leverage these tools to perform more complex analysis and gain new insights from data. Data analysts who are able to adapt to new technologies and continue to develop their skills will be well-positioned to thrive in the evolving field of data analysis. Ultimately, it's important to approach your career with a growth mindset and remain open to learning new skills and adapting to change. With hard work and dedication, you can build a successful career as a data analyst, even in the face of technological advancements." Me: "Okay. If I ever get a job as a data analyst, we'll go out and I'll buy you a beer." ChatGPT: "As an AI language model, I don't drink beer, but I appreciate the sentiment! I'm always here to help you with any questions you may have, so feel free to reach out anytime. Good luck with your studies and future career as a data analyst!" 🤣😂😅

I would like to add one more point which is fairness. Let's say that Chat GPT or some other AI have eaten all the DA jobs but all of their work will be around data and since they will work only on data and if data is not fair then their outcome of analysis will also not be fair for everyone and I think this is one of the biggest reason that they won't completely eat this job maybe few sections but not whole job. Also Chat GPT still doesn't have clear understanding on all concept. He do tons of mistakes while writting a code.

A few years ago, a notion was common that Tesla's self driving trucks are around the horizon and they will replace truckers by automating their jobs and one should learn to code as programming will be the most future proof work. But now with these 'evolving' language models, I assume that office desk jobs that requires human intellect for data processing, be it programming, server administration, or anything involving digital information, will be the most vulnerable than the manual labour jobs like trucking. I fear we still haven't yet fully realized what major implications AI can have in the coming few years, especially with the phenomena of emergent abilities and AGI.

@ESPjump
@ESPjump Год назад
You are partly right. This is A LOT of hype. And also true: they say that chatgpt has reached more than 100 million users at a record time, but they do not say how many of these users just used it once or twice, how many just tried it for fun, how many used it just to try how it works... The programmers are using it, 99% of the time to solve simple questions that before they had to look for in Google, or ask about it in Stack Overflow. While programming, it just saved me time looking for some really difficult questions, and that's all. BUT, at the same time, the most of the companies are employing this hype to substitute workers by AI's. The AI's produces less quality and less specific work, but extremely cheaper. So the companies are testing how to force people to accept less qulity in their productos or services, but have them cheaper. One example is the client services: a couple of years ago, nobody wanted to talk with a robot instead of a person. Now the companies are pulling back, trying we to accept it definitly. In the case of the data analyst, there were already tasks that could be easy automated (that's the case of the daily reports), but they weren't because of the need of an analyst who could decide while checking data. Now, they will pull back to see if they can avoid paying those salaries.
@charleszhang647
@charleszhang647 Год назад
No sarcasm, just want to discuss: for the example in the video, why there will even be a “Jessica” role if the business stakeholder can simply pull out the data and analyze it themselves to find problems and improve product? I often think the reason why data analyst exist as a role is because the process of getting data ready to be analysed is too much for business stakeholders. Therefore companies hire data analyst. But if AI makes analysing big amounts of data as easy as using Excel to analyse 100 rows, then why can’t stakeholders do it by themselves? I’m just a student learning analytics but I always wonder why we all say picking insights from data is the job for data analyst, not the business stakeholders who are actually directly responsible for the end result? Please correct me if you think I’m wrong. Lots of anxiety after the launching of code interpreter

This news lately 😂 ... We will see some automation in daily tasks across the industry, but it will vary for different roles. For example, in backend software engineering, it's important to start experimenting with machine learning technologies and "AI" to implement CI/CD, recommendations, deployment etc., on top of projects, similar to how you would add AWS infrastructure on top of a project. I have been using CUDA for quite some time now, even before tools like ChatGPT were popular. My point is, if we want to stay ahead of the curve, we need to learn these technologies and even build our own tools (nothing fancy about that). After all, some technologies are already a few years old. Data analysts have always used existing tools, so for them, it's common sense to use existing AI tools to improve productivity. I think AI will replace the entry level roles in data analytics, which is why its so daunting because as entry level analysts (like myself) our first few years will most likely involve repetitive and more simpler tasks that can be done by machines. And the more this happens (i.e the more companies seek out for experienced professionals) the harder it will be to get into the field. Not only that, the barrier of entry will be much higher as well since you have to compete with both other entry level analysts AND ai. People with less than 2- 3 years of experience dont really have the luxury of talking with shareholders and giving insights directly to managers nor are they given that kind of work to do. So, in a way, the entry level analysts are the Jack's of the role, easily replaceable
@milkboccle
@milkboccle Год назад
Get as much experience as you can in delivering projects/change management, even if it’s not close to your job role, see if you can shadow, whoever is responsible for implementing new systems and processes. the true value will come from being able to fill the blindspots between operations and reporting, AI is a long way from figuring that out If you serve as the intermediary between the data team and the operations, finance, commercial, and project teams, and excel at this role, you will become invaluable. Operational and finance professionals often find it challenging to interact with analysts. This difficulty may arise because some analysts, though highly skilled, might be less sociable or possibly fall on the autism spectrum. Conversely, members of operations or finance teams are frequently outgoing and have strong personalities. Hence, the ability to effectively communicate requirements between these two distinct groups remains critical, regardless of whether AI supplants analyst roles in the future, there will always be a job for scoping requirements and implementing systems (data flow/etl/wrangling/dashboards/implementation/ sense checking the machines etc)

Well… here is what CHATGPT said when I asked it the same question. No, AI will not replace the need for data analysts, but it will change their roles and responsibilities. While AI can automate some tasks, such as data cleaning and analysis, it cannot replace the critical thinking and decision-making abilities of a human data analyst. Data analysts are responsible for interpreting data, finding patterns, and deriving insights that can help businesses make informed decisions. They also work with stakeholders to define business goals, identify metrics, and design experiments to test hypotheses. AI can assist data analysts in these tasks by providing faster and more accurate data analysis, enabling them to focus on higher-level tasks that require human judgement and expertise. Data analysts can use AI tools to automate routine tasks, such as data cleaning and visualization, and spend more time on tasks that require creativity and problem-solving. In summary, while AI will change the role of data analysts, it will not replace them. Instead, it will complement their skills and enable them to become more effective in their roles.

A common pattern I'm seeing across industries is that work that can be automated, will be automated. How and when to automate seems to be the next logical skillset, and that might lead to expertise in a domain being what you're paid for - the "hours" of work that can be automated will no longer be a part of one's paycheck. All this said, I have no idea where the world is going. It's equal parts exciting and unsettling.

Most mid-level "executives" drool over pivot tables even though they rarely understand them. They also like having a person to give orders to so they will resist AI and automation as long as possible. At some point the data analysis and reporting will become standardized and automation will follow. The mid-level executives and their lackeys will be replaced by an AI Analytics department (no people, just AI agents). Companies that resist this trend will soon find they aren't as competitive as their progressive competitors .. lightning and thunder, fire and brimstone ... it won't be pretty.

In fact a month after the meeting an email was sent out explaining how we can not use any company data with AI tools. I don’t believe anyone is sharing company data with AI tools but we are using it to help improve coding scripts that don’t include any company data. My company’s management team is really out of touch with AI and they better get on board.

I don't see the issue. It's still someone who needs to type the command in and look through the data to see if it's correct and make it repricantable. Even if the work can be done through AI, a human needs to monetize it. The work will change, take less time, yes. = less work, but it will still be a demand for it. Before the Internet and data, we had bookkeepers who, for ex, worked with just typing out the numbers in a company on paper. Most of that is computer generated these days, but we still need to monetize it. When AI is becoming robots, however... although, I think that people still are needed for a complete end result.

I ASKED THE SAME QUESTION TO CHATGPT AND THE ANSWER IS AS UNDER: The field of data analysis is being significantly impacted by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. While AI has the potential to augment and enhance the work of data analysts, it is unlikely to completely replace their jobs in the foreseeable future. Here are a few reasons for this: Complex Analysis: Data analysis often involves complex problem-solving, pattern recognition, and decision-making, which currently requires human cognitive abilities. AI systems can assist data analysts by automating repetitive tasks, generating insights, and speeding up data processing, but they still rely on human expertise to interpret and apply those insights appropriately. Contextual Understanding: Data analysts possess domain knowledge and contextual understanding that goes beyond statistical analysis. They understand the business objectives, ask relevant questions, and consider broader implications. AI systems lack the contextual understanding and critical thinking abilities to fully replace human analysts in complex decision-making scenarios. Human Judgment: Data analysis involves making judgments, interpreting results, and presenting findings to stakeholders. Human analysts can apply their intuition, creativity, and subjective judgment to draw insights and communicate them effectively. AI systems, while powerful in processing large datasets, often lack the ability to explain their reasoning or incorporate subjective factors. Ethical Considerations: Data analysis often involves sensitive and confidential information. Human analysts are responsible for ensuring ethical data handling practices, maintaining privacy, and addressing potential biases. Trust, accountability, and ethical decision-making require human oversight. However, it is important to note that AI technologies are continually evolving, and their capabilities are advancing rapidly. While complete job replacement is unlikely, certain routine tasks within data analysis may be automated, freeing up analysts to focus on higher-value activities. Data analysts can embrace AI as a tool to enhance their work, acquire new skills in AI and machine learning, and adapt to the changing landscape of the field.

What is the point of that? If humans hide from AI then we are really hurting ourselves. We made AI in the first place. AI is our child. What do children do (after they are grown)? They take over the entry level jobs and their parents take on higher level jobs. So, AI will free humans to do higher level jobs. Since we have the benefit of being the creators of AI, we can rest assured that we will always be greater than AI. AI obeys humans. As AI does more and more human jobs, Humans are freed to do new jobs that haven't been done before. AI will make lower-level tasks more efficient, like Ancient Rome's roads made transportation more efficient, and Cars made transportation more efficient still. As long as people continue to seek truth, they will have something to do. As long as we seek life, we won't run out of possibilities to improve. As long as we dream, we cannot lose. Humans are already alive, right? Humans are already going to die, right? What more can we win or lose besides life and death? We have advancements in science that has allowed for modern day technology which seems to make our lives better and easier, because of our pursuit of life and truth. If we cower away from the benefits of AI because we feel we cannot earn a living otherwise, then we are kicking out our own knees, because it is precisely the advancement of knowledge that we were working for to begin with. If our own lives are threatened by AI, then it is because we stopped fighting, not because AI overwhelmed us.

Your 10 years of experience are meaningless in the face of exponential increase of capabilities of Ai, as is your assumption that Critical Thinking and 'Creativity' are a safehaven for replacement by Ai. This is a kind of 'human exceptionalism' thinking, the idea that Human intelligence has properties that an Ai could never copy. Let me explain. This is the fallacy in reasoning that almost everyone who doesn't think this is actually happening is falling into. Jassica will be replaced just as fast as Jack. The idea that because she needs 'critical thinking' is making her impervious to replacement is a big, big, big mistake. Transformer LLM's are specialized at pattern finding, and they are much better at it than any human, and the pattern finding is the foundation for what you consider 'creativity' because it's that 'creativity' that allows Jassica to find patterns that weren't identified before, which is what makes her good at her job. Thus she will be replaced, because what you think is 'creativity' or 'critical thinking' is actually foundational feature of current generativeAi models, and it scales perfectly with Dataset and computational resources, so it's not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. Ai has gone from scoring 26% on Medical Licensing Exam in early 2022 to score 86% in February 2023.. That is nearly 4X increase in performance within 1 year. Human doctors only score a 94% at best, but Ai will score 100% a 100% of the time within a year. Stop denying reality. Stop thinking you're special because you're a sack of meat and water... Ai will replace you. Period. It's not a bad thing. We will have UBI and everyone will be free to pursue their passion, but first economies will collapse.

The problem is that 90% of the data analyst job, is what Jack is doing. So it means we will need 10 times less data analysts, and the juniors will be out of the market even before arrive. The companies will not hire almost any new data analyst with less than 3 years of experience for at least the next 5 to 10 years after this automation starts. This is going to be the same for almost any intelectual job, and specially the ones linked to the technology. Governments, educational institutions, those tech "gurus"... where throwing the most inteligent people to study software engineer, web design, data analysis, mathematics... the jobs of the future, they said... and now they will have no job. They just threw to the garbage the most intelligent people from a whole generation.

But for now, a data analyst armed with AI tools, that will be a much more efficient combination. But if data analysts were wiped out tomorrow, people un knowledgeable in the realm of statistics/mathematics typing prompts into an AI, will not cut it, I don’t care how smart or creative you are.
