Question around fuel. 91 is the stock fuel here in NZ and 95 is "premium" 98 is "High octane" for high end cars (like a pimped out evo.. ^_^). There's also Deisel, LPG and recently Hydrogen but who uses those! (JK) Is it not the same in the states?

Kevin, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the extra time you take to explain how shit works. I have learned so much since I started watching your vids, things like large reservoir of master cylinder is always disks and other tidbits of pure gold that make trouble shooting much much simpler. Again a huge thanks.

10.5:1 comp seems pretty high for pump gas on these old motors. My 390FE has 9.5:1 with aftermarket pistons and she still just barely pings on 91 octane under WOT. Thanks to this channel, I was inspired to buy a Pertronix distributor, now I can limit the advance and keep the 20 degrees of initial she wants.

Fantastic, Kevin! Very entertaining. Bummer about Phoenix's car- it sure LOOKED good though. I do a lot of small engine stuff and have been drilling my own jets for years- mostly because I'm too cheap to just go buy a bunch of 'em. What's fun is when you get a little overzealous and have to solder the jet closed and redrill it smaller. Thanks for the continually entertaining and informative content!

6:48 seeing TDC at TDC and knowing the engine has been built up some, I would think maybe they installed a timing set with different cam timing. 68-71 timing sets are timed differently from 72+ sets for emissions (later EFI 460 are different as well) So it's possible when this engine was built that if they went to the trouble to do performance ignition and forged pistons they probably also went with a straight up timing set.

Buddy of mine had a 460 we were swapping into a late 70's Bronco, the engine had sat in a corner in a garage on an engine stand for so long the poor little engine stand had somewhat bent from the weight. We got the engine running on the floor, timing was way too far advance, we couldn't get the distributor out with it on the ground, we were just moving a 460 around trying. We ended up bolting the engine to a random Ford F series frame he had out back that originally had a big block, and still had to fight that bastard to come loose. These distributors can be a nightmare if they really stick.

Excellent video Junkyard Digs Kevin :) also if going 89 or higher octane gas with that 460 motor bored up 0.30 over use 10w30 no synthetic engine oil of Pennezoil or Vavleoline, Fram Oil 2x times with Grip gaurd , Fram Air , Fram PCV Valve , Fram Fuel Filter & Grey Bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank each time too because eats up Ethonal in fuels ! Also Spark plugs use Platinum Plus not long threads too , High Suppression wires to from Distributor Cap plus Coil to more clean spark also fire plus on cold and hot starts ! Do all this and get little ping at Cold start and in 3 mins high idle come low idle fast to and hot start after no pings! If do still get ping on when Park or Netural bit but in Reverse plus Foward gears not got set Intake and outake on need adjustment like tight up! Hopefully this help Kevin and don't use cheaper price gas to use great quality gas always too !

There where crazy things like Twin Turboshaft T53-L-11 Turbines out of a Bell UH1-D and a 18 Zylinder radial engine from some WW2 Bomber. One of those two not only pulled the sled down the track but also almost up and over a hill at the end that's sole purpose was to stop them for sure. Best day in the life of a young little boy. Now THAT was COOL! Mate, I see a future in that beast attending more events like that! I've never been to a Tractor Pull - you'd think with a nation that makes most of its GDP and export income from farming that it would be a thing, but no. Gumboot tossing, yes, horsepower, not so much. So sad.... Anyway, commiserations on the UJ, but that's a minor set back. That engine held in there - pinking like mad, but she held and did over 200 feet! That's win in my book for the old girl. I bet the mice in Phoenix's rig were sweating bricks - maybe a few of them sacrificed themselves to block the exhaust pipe and cause it to stumble....? Who knows - hope he gets it sussed for the next one though. Both your engines sounded epic.....and for ref, I didn't adjust the sound and was wearing headphones for the first pull. What a GLORIOUS sound! Had to turn the volume UP from then on to get the same thrill from the rest! A great watch, my friend. Kudos for the effort put in to make it happen. All the best

They are ment for pulling so you can walk off the line without loading up the driveline to hard. Essentially a slipper is two metal disks with a small amount of material. They get hot fast but are designed for it. At night they'll throw sparks Love it. Just awesome
