Great memories of Comedy that we will never see again, because we no loner have wonderful comic genius of this stature. Eric and Ernie were like family.
I am sorry, but ernie's hair really does looks like, a toupee in this. And the other thing is in them days, people did look older for there age, eric and ernie are only 44 here, but they do look older! Especally with wise being grey from around about 30 years old.
What you are hearing is the control gallery where the producer and production assistants. Someone must have their connection to the gallery on loud and so we can hear them on this. It might be coming through someone's headphones which have been taken off and placed down, which is then picked up on the studio microphones.
Oftentimes, the camera men who were wearing headphones during the recording had the gain up quite loud, and it was bleeding to the studio set and Eric and Ernie's overhead mic. The gallery, who were giving directions to cameramen, from the director and vision controller, talked throughout an entire recording usually beyond the hearing of even the studio audience. Not in this case it would seem.
