I agree with Craig surprisingly. Barca don’t need olmo, rather than spending 60m on olmo I’d spend 60m on zubimendi. Players like pedri, gundogan, gavi, fermin, Pablo torre can all play the position of Dani olmo. Plus olmo has had his injury problems which is a risk for Barca
If Flick wants to reenact the Muller role into Barcelona then he probably needs someone like Dani Olmo. Pedri is more of a controlling midfielder like Thiago Alcantara. Pedri + De Jong or Pedri + Gavi can be a good double pivot with Olmo as a number 10.

Barca fans including myself agree with Craig. It was clear as day that we need a defensive midfielder. And what’s really frustrating is if we have the money to sign Nico and Olmo, why not get someone like Zubimendi instead of Olmo when they cost the same. Zubimendi, Pedri, and Gavi in the midfield would be amazing… plus we have a similar kind of CAM in Fermin Lopez. I’d only like to see Olmo after we sign and let go players we do and don’t need.
Craig is right, Barca is rife with midfielders who can't defend. IMO the opportunity was Douglas Luiz and I think they're now going to lean on Christiansen and Casado, assuming Romeu leaves. If Ronald Koeman is to be believed about De Jong's injury, he's not going anywhere till at least next summer.

It’s easy why they going for Olmo !! Pedri always injured, all the front three needed some rest because of the long seasons (including international matches). Olmo cover all their front including the mids . Just incase any of the players got injured. CDM is needed for sure . But I think Flik knows something that we don’t know.
If olmo comes in for that then we have to sell ferran gundo and maybe ansu . Or else this is just stacking up the squad with unnecessary players while not addressing what the squad really needs
Finally someone sess what I am seeing. Having said that we need to seel Gundo and Ferran to work this out because Olmo is expensive. Merino is more important to Barca atm than Olmo.

Barcelona are going to sign Nico Williams and then activate Dani Olmo’s release clause and signing both of them in the same transfer window assuming they’re able to afford them if they cash in on some players, on paper that looks very good, since you’ll have a direct winger and a versatile player who can play anywhere in the team and that makes their attack even stronger, but unless they sign a CDM, I don’t see them as a team who’s a genuine contender for the champions league next season. Signing Williams that’s a guarantee for them since he wants to go there he’s their top transfer target and they want to get this transfer done ASAP, and I get it, Barcelona has been linked to resign Olmo for years since he was part of their academy and he put in very good performances for Spain at the EUROs where he was the top scorer (B/C Pedri was injured and if he was fit, he wouldn’t have played a lot) and overall he is a baller, but he’s more of a luxury signing rather than a priority. As good of a player he is, he’s very inconsistent and also you’re adding another injury prone player to the team since he doesn’t have a good injury record and yes he’s a good player, a player’s ability cannot solely be judged based off of a major tournament and it’s not just that, no matter how many attackers/midfielders they have at their disposal (Nico Williams Robert Lewandowski Lamine Yamal Pedri Dani Olmo Fermin Lopez Frenkie de Jong Ilkay Gundogan Gavi etc.), football isn’t FIFA, you actually need a proper defensive midfielder as you can’t just play a bunch of attackers and have zero balance or cohesion in the team whatsoever. You still haven’t properly replaced the greatest CDM of all time, I mean look at some of the top teams in Europe, Manchester City- Rodri, Arsenal- Declan Rice, Real Madrid- Aurelien Tchouameni , even Bayern Munich just signed Joao Palhinha after chasing him for a year and they didn’t give up on him even after the transfer on deadline day collapsed, Manchester United as well are about to sign Manuel Ugarte and again you can have a lot of good players in the attacking positions; but you’re not winning trophies if you don’t have a world class holding midfielder. You don’t want to have another season where Gundogan and de Jong are playing out of position and Andreas Christensen, he did well as a CDM, since Ronald Araujo is injured, they need him in defense more than midfield. They already have enough attacking midfielders anyways and ok he can play anywhere; still they don’t need him and signing Olmo and Williams together would be great if they can pull it off; Barcelona aren’t addressing the biggest weakness in their team.
Barca can get what they want...they just need to sell Romeu, Marcos Alonso, Eric Garcia to Girona, Sell Fati, Segi Roberto, and Clement Lenglet who's still a Barca player on loan. It's pretty doable. That'll bring money. Also there's still Inigo Martinez and Ferran Torres who Barca can do without. He's s not classy player. That's 8 players Barca can sell. That has got to bring money.

It’s simple really. sell gundogan (free), Ferran Torres (20m) , Eric Garcia (15m), Pablo torre, Raphinha (55m) for about £90m in total, that will free up about 500k per week in salary as a result. Sign Nico (60m), Olmo (60m), merino (25m). Net spend is 55m on transfers and the salary bill should level off with those sales. Now you have merino, de jong, gavi and Romeu as options for midfield while Lewandowski, Vitor roque, nico, yamal, Pedri, Fermin and Olmo attack.

Im struggling to see where barca will get the money they’ll use for their signings. They have pulled so many levers and has placed the entire club on a lever. Flick wants someone like Muller to operate in that space and Olmo is a near perfect fit. Except Fermin who can be a good rotation with Olmo for that position, none of the players you mentioned come close to fitting that profile. Gavi is box to box, Gundogan and Pedri are controlling midfielders not number 10s.

@@syedalihaiderzahidi5214 Olmo centrally worked fine for Spain. Even better than Pedri, and the attack we want at Barca is pretty much the same as Spain if we can also sign Nico. Gundogan isn’t as intense in attack as Olmo, and I don’t think Flick has plans for him to play in that position.

I agree with Craig but I think the coach is betting on La Masia players for the defensive midfield role prolly. Barcelona always had trouble in deciding a CDM because most of the time it ends up not working with players not from the academy. I understand with Flick that all goes out the window but it seems like he has a plan for youngsters coming from the academy. Marc Casado and Marc Bernal seems to be the ones Flick wants to use there as a double pivot with Frenkie prolly. I personally would be much more satisfied with a Zubimendi signing but we still don't know what we can expect from these La Masia kids so fingers crossed, if this is the case, it works out good.

If you can find 60mil for Dani Olmo then you can find 60mil for Zubimendi. Rodri went off injured in the Euro final and no one missed him. Zubimendi is class.
With sales and deals coming in, a dream window would be Nico, Olmo, Merino and Cancelo. If we go into next season with these four signings, I'll back us against any team in europe.
Olmo would be on the bench for Barca and Barca aren't paying 60 mil for a bench player. He is also very inconsistent and we already have many inconsistent players like Fati, Ferran and Raphinha
Raphina was great last season. I’d only want Olmo for Flick system if we play 4-2-3-1 so that if Pedri is injured he could step in but for that price 👎. We better off signing Nico Williams first and possibly a DM or RB

Many forget that Barca have two very good academy players in M Bernal and M Casado’ .They can easily handle the DM position. They are young but high quality.

Olmo always made smart choices. Barcelona would be a dumb option it's only make sense if this is an emotional decision. Barcelona would benefit from Olmo but if they want a bright future they should start to be honest with themselves and start a not flashy but long term plan. Not spending what they don't even have but planting.
We really need a CDM desperately, and after that I’d say secure Cancelo/ a RB, and then think of switching out Lewa who is inevitably getting older. I love Olmo and I’d welcome him back to his boyhood club, but Barcelona doesn’t NEED him, it’s a decision that just doesn’t entirely make sense to me
