Will College Basketball video games ever return? What needs to happen for the series to come back? I talk about it in this video. Matt Brown Extra Points: www.extrapoint... Other sources: www.gamespot.c... www.espn.com/c...
I don’t care if they don’t bring back College Basketball Basketball is boring to me I prefer them to bring College Football instead of Basketball which they are EA Sports College Football 25
Naw I think it makes more sense for EA to do College. Since they can’t compete with 2k in the NBA. This could be there way of getting back into that market while not directly having competition they could never beat.
I feel like 2k should drop a college basketball game with older team like they do with retro teams , they could put all the players in the nba in their college eras ,(with current players too ofc) players who dominated tho , like kemba , ‘16 lozno, melo , kd , Jayson Tatum , etc and my idea on a park for that game is way better lol
College basketball games probably won’t be made. Because the money to make these games are a lot. And the return wouldn’t make up for it. You have to make profit or it doesn’t make sense
I’m sorry but this video like 3 months too early, CFB 25 as far as Ik has made 500 million on just 100 dollar pre orders alone, the game hasn’t even had that Black Friday sale, or whenever the season starts, post HS Football etc. 2K would have to make it, but College hoops is a must at this point. Ppl would spend on a fortune on MC alone for College basketball, plus a fully fleshed out Dynasty with a passionate 2K that once gave us the greatest myleague mode ever. If marketed right and given the proper gameplay changes 2K could easily make as much if not more on a College Hoops 26
I would rather be playing the newest EA Sports college basketball video game than 2k. Idc if they make it similar to 2k I rather play March Madness than the same old crap 2K be doing for year after year
Nobody played this game lol. People still play College Hoops 2k8 to this day with updated rosters. You clearly didn’t know what was poppin, respectfully.
Would be massive if 2k does imagine the open world in it…the park would be campuses or jus one campus the offline career mode would be like ncaa basketball 10 were you shoot around on the court on campus before the game starts
I would be perfectly fine with an NBA2k reskin if we can get college teams and conferences, and NCAA tournament. Just render the arenas, insert the gameplay from 2K and roll on if that’s what it takes
They need to have the dynasty component though, so that will take a little more time. Then pay for the likenesses. But yeah, it seems like they could do it. I bet they are keeping an eye out to see how well EA does with College Football this year. As much as 2k likes micro transactions, a CB ultimate team mode might make them back most of the money needed to develop it. They know how to squeeze folks for cash- and there is a loyal subset of fans who would be ripe for this
Believe it or not that was the original intent of Rory Mcilroy Golf and they abandoned that quickly. Also they will release a game every year it’s profitable, why wouldn’t they minor tweaks and people will pay 60$ just ask 2k and madden developers
College basketball games had the best atmosphere recreation. Not even the football games made you feel like you were in the building like the basketball games. The chants the crowd animation and reactions to the on court action was spectacular in the EA and 2K offerings. Something the pro versions haven't gotten right...
I feel EA should take this route and make a College Basketball game. This way since they can’t compete directly with 2k with NBA. They can get back into that market by being the only College Basketball game. And if they take what the CF25 team is doing with that and make it from scratch. I feel they could make a good basketball game with new gameplay feel and animations that can be fluid and decent enough to be fun. It will not be of course what 2k has, but that’s not really needed. They just then have to make the Dynasty and my player modes very deep just like its football counterpart. And have plenty of customization options available with players and creating a school. I feel this can actually happen fr.
Obviously EA has the funds to literally make the game. But they aren't going to spend millions of dollars to make a game that isn't going to produce a profit
If gaming companies stop looking at 20+ yr old data they’ll realize a college game could bring in tons of money now. 20 years ago it was hard cause all the pro counter parts were really good. Madden was in its prime, nba live was still popular, 2k was startin to establish itself in the basketball community but was still producing baseball and football games that were reviewed well but now time has completely changed. There’s only one football, basketball, soccer, baseball and hockey game and nun of those games are necessarily good but wen there’s nun else to choose from you kinda force ya self to deal with the flaws but insert a college sports game that would change everything. Ea college mvp would blow the show outta the waters with their graphics and the details they’d put in their game. The show been on the Ps5 for 4 years now and still using ps4 graphics and their biggest upgrade was givin Derek Jeter storylines. BRING BACK COLLEGE SPORTS GAMES
Iam ok with college basketball not being a every year release game I doubt players and schools lower their license fees But hopefully college football will be a big success
I think think EA will make a college basketball game if CF 25 does well. The good thing is EA already has the school licenses so all they would have to do for this game would be to pay the players who opt in to the game and announcers. This would be cheaper to make than CF 25 which had over 10,000 players opt in.
I really would like to see the College basketball game return. I actually had a copy of the college baseball game on PS2 back in 05 or 06 it wasn’t bad
Imagine we get an online league with transfer portal, all games with NIT in season, conference games, with top 25 polls, hardest place to play, edit your own coaching staff, your own system, etc. I am a BIG basketball fan and include I coach irl basketball. This would be exciting to get back.
I can see College Basketball coming back but if does 2K will most likely make it and it’ll have hella micro transactions but we’ll have to wait and see what kind of numbers the new College Football game does.
yeah I remember back in the day I didn’t really understand why they stopped making college games…..popularity would’ve been my last guess cause at the time I was living in North Carolina where college basketball is SUPER popular lol 🤷♂️
I want college women’s basketball and college softball game and baseball game. I want them focused on it give it a road to glory and dynasty it doesn’t have to as much as basketball or football but just make it good and they need to start from scratch not a ncaa 10 or 2k reboot just do what they doing with football and start over
I am the biggest college hoops video game fan you'll ever meet. I played 2k8 and NCAA CBB and prior 2K CH titles more hours than I can count over the past 16 years. I still play NCAA CBB because my 2k CH disc doesn't work anymore lol. I've followed the possibility of a new college basketball game being released for over a decade and here are my opinions on it as someone who is also very well read on the topic. 1. Revenue is king, and like you said the licensing costs alone, not to mention the increased cost of everything nowadays compared to 2007 or 2008 makes the margins very small. If there isn't a way to significantly widen that profit margin another CBB game will never be made again. 2. You are spot on about the new CFB game needing to do well. The very first step to even entertaining another CBB game by either 2K or EA is the sales numbers for the CFB game need to be blown out of the water. If that game doesn't vastly exceed sales expectations there won't be a sniff of a potential CBB game possibly ever again. But I do think the CFB game will sell very well. 3. The only way I think a CBB game could be made again is if it is microtransactioned to death and they are able to keep licensing costs as minimal as possible, likely meaning not every conference is included. NBA 2K has been a mainstay because it has zero competition and it relies on revenue from microtransactions post purchase. I think one of the only ways another CBB game installment would be signed off on is to offer a ton of post-purchase revenue streams within the game. I actually do not think a CBB game could make a viable profit for EA or 2K without that secondary stream. 4. As much as I'd love to see a CBB game return, I just don't see it happening. Everything with the NIL lawsuit outcome made a project like this so cost-prohibitive that basically any college sport other than football was killed and buried from it. The resources needed, the ground-up development required since a CBB game is 16 years removed from production, the licensing and player NIL agreement negotiations, it all adds up quickly. Don't hold your breath. The only thing we as CBB video game fans can really do is buy the CFB game in August and hope for the best in 2025 or 2026 for a CBB title.
If they released a fictional universe that could be modded people would complain that you can only have 120 teams and not 300 or however many basketball teams there are. In reality though, if they were able to do that, just release it for $20 and let the mixers have their way with it. Problem is it would have to be a smaller studio, not EA or 2K. EA has the relationship with the NCAA so you wouldn’t jeopardize that, and if it was 2K people would see right through it. Plus, people would complain about it if it was 2K because they already complain about their NBA game.
Given that there is currently a void in the market for a college basketball video game(s), I think 2K could really bring the College Hoops franchise back...especially with how well women's college basketball is doing right now, and 2K already features the WNBA in the NBA 2K franchise. In addition, EA Sports did feature women's college basketball in March Madness ['98]. Also, I'd like to see College Slam make a return, in-some-form. 😎👉❤🔥
Ncaa returning may be the biggest success in sports gaming in a very long time. Which will lead to a NCAA basketball game returning sooner than what we think at this point.
I think the big difference in college basketball vs college football’s popularity is that college football and the nfl seem to have a connected fan base. NFL fans watch college football as well and follow the storylines and teams. On the other hand usually only hardcore basketball fans follow both the nba and college basketball concurrently outside of following the top prospects. College basketball has its own entire fan base almost completely separate from nba fans. It’s much more of a team sport than nba basketball is with way more plays being run and more emphasis on defense as well. I’d like to consider myself a fan of basketball as a sport and not just an NBA fan, so I have no problem with watching college basketball and even overseas games. On the other hand there’s the majority of new age nba fans who are gonna be the majority of people you market the game to and a lot of people around my age don’t even wanna go back and watch 90s basketball let alone watch college basketball. That being said I think that since it’s been gone for so long and with NIL deals as well as people wanting variety, it would be in someone, anyone’s best interest to get the license and do it justice. I just hope if 2k does it it’s actually going to be a fun experience and they’ll do it justice.
If college hoop video games fans want college basketball games to return, they have to support college football 25 on the day of the official launch date and buy themselves a copy of the game......even if they are not a big fan of football.
*i have an idea* 2k should just make a game called college 2k. (Basketball, womens Basketball, baseball all in one) More my player based. No real players so you save money. Therefore you only have to pay the schools. Someone gonna upload the real players anyway. Just download them if you want them.
Man they need to make a new college hoops 2k. If they done that they would make a killing. There shouldn't be an issue, and if they bring it back they need to do like they do Madden and make new college football and basketball game every year.
I said this it’s a money game mind thing pretty much they gonna need a loan to help support or make the game no matter who makes it I wish have 2 billion dollars or even 50 million lol I gave them 20 to make a game if was still young playing it or have time
