Watching this video, my daughter asked me if I had ever dropped a bike to which I responded with a resounding "Of Course!" I then went on to tell her that it's not if you are going to drop a bike but when you will drop a bike. I'd have to seriously question any person who tried to say that they have never dropped a bike to the point of, "Do you not ride?" Good video by the way. Please keep them coming. RU-vid needs more female perspectives on riding, working on bikes, etc. It's a good thing for other women and especially the younger, future riding women to see.

Yup they do... I have both heavy duty front and rear crash guards on my Harley. Tbey saved my bike and my knee during a crash.

I didn’t ride my new 2020 iron 1200 until I installed my bung king bar. I didn’t put the rear sliders on. Took it a mile down the road and a car came out a school didn’t see me I dropped the bike and all that happens was the bad end got nicked and my license plate frame bent. Well worth the money

Yes! I took a spare tire head on at 70mph and my crashbar took the hit.. will definitely protect you and your bike.. I was riding 2up when it happened and we didn't go down.

Thankgod you had installed those crash bars as that not only protected the bike as u said, but also stopped the bike from potentially falling on you. Well done getting the bike backup. I know a dude who stopped and forgot to put down his side stand & walked away. So was very embarrassed when the bike fell over and nearly hit him. I've had bikes fall on me & it's not good.

One of the only complaints I’ve had about my challenger is that they didn’t come with crash bars. Put them on 2 weeks ago and legit ALMOST dropped my bike, haven’t almost dropped a bike in years. 😂 it was a curse! Good video!

Great video! I can totally relate. The weekend after I got my Low Rider S, I rode to Syracuse to visit a friend. Parked the bike, started talking. Couldn't have been more than 10 feet from the bike. Bike sat there for like 30 minutes, then from out of nowhere, it tipped over. My HD Mustache guard saved it from some real damage. Wrecked my first Iron 883. Didn't have an engine guard on it. ~$7500 in damage, Geico totaled it out. Would've probably saved the bike if I had one installed.

That was the first thing I bought for my fxlrs after dropping it on the way home from the dealership. It was a slow drop but slightly scratched my derby cover. Best investment on the bike.

When I went to buy a bike as a new rider, my motorcycle instructor told me to make sure you get crash bars. He said 99.9 % of people who tell you they have never dropped a bike, are lying.

5:11 ....and they work! lol dont sweat it.. we have all done it. all these years later, every once in a while i have a day where i almost drop (i am just a 270lbs bear and i can muscle it) crash bars are pretty much the very first thing i put on a harley. they pay for themself in one drop i think it is awesome that you took the time to wrench it yourself.

Helps a lot when picking the bike up! Do you have a dyna lowrider or softail lowrider John? They make rear crash bars for the dynas too so if you drop the bike the front and rear is safe and even easier to pick up. Having a front and rear crash bar, or a crash bar and delrhin frame sliders are the best insurance out there

@@jonnymac8925 It's a 17, a Dyna, thinking about the rear ones too, my legs got screwed up when there was a road crew picking up trash in the left lane stopped on a blind curve on a limited access highway, a car in the right lane, no where to go. Yy 15 LowRider was totaled and my left shin shattered.

I watched a u tube vid of picking up a Bike like that .Taking hold of the bars( left hand on far bar / right hand on near bar and with back straight walk towards the bike keeping left arm straight .Gonna lay my bike down in the garage and try it .( bike weighs 700 lbs .) Well done.

I'd have to look it up but $300.00 would probably be a good down payment for a driveway fall without a crash bar... Oh yeah, I'm definitely going to find me some of that Loctite tape so that I can lose the blue fingers and blue dots all over my shop floor... Those bars work great and look much better than a traditional crash bar. Although it stinks to drop a bike, knowing that you know how to deal with it and the bars protected your bike is priceless.

Designed an identical set about 10 years ago for my XL 1200. Mine were attached with a simple set of U-clamps as a single spanning bar with hand grips on the ends. Worked very well until I modified my shifter and brakes pedal for added foot reach. Love your videos combining brains and beauty. Keep up the great work.

My new 2020 Road King Special came with the front crash bar. One of the 1st mods was to install saddlebag guards. A drop is going to happen to all of us who ride. Better to be prepared if at all possible. As the old saying goes, An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure. Nice install video. Keep em coming.

A note to your viewers. I had one on my 2019 softail street bob until I got forward controls and had to take it off. The bar sits just under your break so no good. So if you have forwards the basic straight crash bar will not work. I think they have ones that will now but make sure it specifies that it will first.

@@MotoBlonde I could barley reach the bung king bar as well but have know problem with forwards. If your bike is 18 or later next time your at a dealer sit on a 18 or later fatbob. They come stock with the same forwards. You’ll fall in love.

Nice work on your install. More importantly with crash bars, I think they are meant to give space between your bike and the ground. In the event of a slide, the crash bars keep the rider from getting pinned under the bike. They give you time to slide out before they break away. If they protect the bike, that’s bonus. Great video. 👍

I fitted mustache engine guard to my Custom Fat Boy .2 days ago riding ( walking speed ) up a slope it went over ( side stand side ) The mustache left guard held the bikd off the hard concrete pavement ( side walk to you guys ) no damage.

I was a crew chief in super pro NHRA 1/4 mile drag racing for about 10 years. I’m all about go fast shit but I ride an Ultra Classic to slow down and relax lol

I did this same thing in my driveway. Kicked the stand down and when I brought by foot back I accidentally nicked the stand so it wasn’t fully locked. Bike went down and threw me about 10ft 😂

Dropped my bike ONCE when I first got it, installed the bars and don't have to worry (then I rapped the bars in leather because I didn't want to scratch the chrome!

That looks like an old school FREEWAY BAR everybody put on back in the 70's so they could stretch their legs out. It did the job and didn't bend so they must be strong (solid) not tubing that bends so easy. Yes we all dropped bikes more than we like to admit some many times. Part of the experience :)

Nice job on the video . They do looks good . I was looking at the mustache bars . I dropped mine at McDonald’s lol. Wish I had those . If you do not plan in reusing the thread vanity inserts. Use a lighter to heat up the tip of a small flat head screw driver and push it into the center of the insert (not too deep, maybe 1/8"), and take the screw driver out. Repeat on all the inserts, let the screw driver cool down to room temp. Once that is done, use the screw driver to screw the inserts out. Doesn't really save time using this method, but is saves on a lot of frustration, and no scratches on the frame.

Crash bars are good for dropping the bike on gravel and sandy areas where footing is poor . Those I think double as highway pegs . Good install. Anything to improve our odds for safety is a Win . Ride safe . Happy Holidays!

My buddy was hit by a car making a left. The crash bars absolutely saved the bike and his leg. Crash bar was trashed though. PS: I don't think the ones you installed will be as helpful with what happened to my buddy but for the situation you showed definitely.

I figured you left it in gear and by habit turned the bars hard to the left as you would when normally parking, and it learched and boom, right down............I've done it lol.........happens............we need to slow our brains down lol Nice install, and they worked! well done! OMG.... trying not to laugh.. but ...yesssss..as youve said... shit happens and its happened to ALL of us in one dumb ass form or another... good to see they indeed work.. makes me feel more comfortable about purchasing them for me SG... as for my dumbass move....about 20yrs ago...i left the lock.. as in manual pad lock..(for us old timers)still affixed to my 90FXRS..as i started it and attempted to ride off... OUCH..the damage was alot more than $300...lol... lessonn learned...lots of laughs and damaged pride.....

The plastic caps are screws LOL. I found out the hard way too. They have a gel thread locker that’s a lot easier to use I got of off Amazon.

Thank goodness, it wasn't at speed but that's when most drops happen. Glad she had it, the bikes with all the addons and love put into them ain't cheap!

I ordered Crash bars from Italy for my Yamaha nFZ-07 price was actyually less than in the USA.. they did not have what I wanted in the USA. When I hit a Deer doing 55 MPH and took a slide my Givi hard cases saved the bike from a lot of damage.. The crash bars will give me a place to mount my running lights.. Maybe I will enclose the crash bars to stop wind in the Cold months..

Sounds like $300.00 well invested. Saddlebag guards were the first accessory that I purchased for my Street Glide Special. They make the bike easier to pick up also. 😁 Nice video. Ride safe!

Great vid thanks. First thing I bought for my FXDB was similar crash bar. Think mine are the cheap Chinese copy as the paint flaked off in no time. Considered getting rid of them but rubbed them down and hammerite coated them. Couple of weeks later they saved me when I put foot foot down on wet leaves and lost it. Good bit of kit. Ride safe 👍

I had exactly the same thing with my Low Rider S. I f**** hate those stands on the new softails. Safed my bike with my knee. It now hurts more than the bugs that a crashbar would have cost

Thanks for posting! Had you noticed there were 5 holes tapped onto the master cylinder side and 5 holes on the bung king bar, but you could only use 4 bolts because 1 was hidden behind the master cylinder and impossible to get to? I just put mine on (without a lift) and gawd I certainly wish I had one like yours!! Hahaha. My other question is- had you noticed a weight change and if the bike operated differently on turns? I did and have the same bike as yours. Nobody makes mention of it on all the bung king vids in RU-vid land.

Highway bars aka crash bars are a lot easier to install on a Harley softail. They will also save your heel shifter and foot running boards if you have them. 1st gear stalls are sneaky sometimes. Thumbs up on the crash bars, they are well worth the money and can also save your legs from getting crushed and pinned under the hot exhaust pipes if you wipe out. I won’t ride a bike without them.

What's the issue? You got to test to see if you put'em on right unintentionally and that's the best test of'em all. Not to mention, you now have theoretical highway pegs if you ever go on a road trip. Gotta thank YT's algorithm for me finding you cause your last video had Shadetree in the title and now since I subscribed, the algorithm is throwing all your unwatched videos in my face. Everyone drops their bike! I dropped mine a few weeks ago and the crash bar saved it, then yesterday I was tboned by a car. The car is in way worse shape than the Harley, but I am in worse shape than both, and with any luck the bike can be fixed

@@MotoBlonde Thank you! I have 5 broken ribs, shoulder and all the muscles, tendons and ligaments connecting my collarbone to my shoulder are completely ripped and not connected at all. I see the surgeon today, and the pain is incredible. Please be safe out there, shit happens at the dumbest time. I live in Canada, I was just over 1/4 mile from home and on a 1 mile round trip to the gas station to fill the tank so I could take it home and store it for the winter. A 5 minute trip is all it was supposed to be! Take care and ride safe!
