Will Crawl Space Encapsulation Save You 15% on Energy Bills? 

I understand, but why building houses with out Capsulation🤷🏻‍♀️

What about the duct lines in the crawlspace? If the the crawlspace is insulated the duct work is working in a better environment.

I will be happy if the cost to run the dehumidifier and vent fan for soil gases is offset by the foamboard wall insulation and sealing/insulating the rim joists. The bonus will be when I use mastic and metal tape to seal and then reinsulate all of the leaky HVAC ducting in the crawl space where most of mine is located. I expect that will lower bills based upon the duct leak check performed when we replaced the HVAC. In the 1970s they didn't do a very good job of sealing metal ducting.

Well with the reduced humidity and the aprilaire E 70 pumping some warm air into the crawl space when it's running it'll definitely keep my floors warmer but I don't know if it'll reduce my energy bill... As I'm spending energy to run the Aprilaire

A properly sealed enclosed crawl space versus a vented open crawl space should contribute significant energy savings. This is very dependent on climate and baseline home insulation performance. Vented crawlspaces with fiberglass batts have significant loss of insulation performance. There are old baseline studies in NC that indicate up to 18% hvac savings for closed and encapsulated vs vented crawlspace. This is attributed to the stable constant earth temperature vs unstable temperature and humidity in the outdoor environment, stack effects, and improved sealing. There is a large variation in predominant heating vs cooling climate conditions and insulation methods with wall board vs in floor batts being preferred based on local conditions.

Hey, here in middle tn. Looking to encap but The termite people drilled holes in the middle of the foundation wall. Is it okay to 2” thick close celled termite resistant foam over with 3” termite inspection gap at the top of the sill?

I currently don’t have any insulation in my crawl space. Would I see a significant improvement in energy usage by insulating between joists (if I stay with vented crawl space) or encapsulating with foam board?
