I had not heard of Will Hurd other than Alyssa mentioning him on the show but first impressions matter and I like him. He’s intelligent, respectful and gave direct, thoughtful answers. I’m a democrat but on the fence about another Biden presidency and I can appreciate moderate Republicans as a relief from these ultra conservatives trying to take us back 100 years! I hope he got some traffic to his website after this interview!

Don’t let this man fool you. He’s saying all the “decent” things to be a likable and respectable Republican. But, the reason he hasn’t gotten so far in Texas is because he has a tendency of dodging his constituents and not responding to their concerns and also saying one thing and doing another. This comes from someone who is a Texan and has seen firsthand he is not to be trusted. So he seems “reasonable”, but he just knows how to talk a good game. Most Republicans are just smoke screens of people and what they “would like you to think” they represent. Just saying 🤷🏾‍♀️ Do your homework and don’t be fooled.

I think as a republican he answered the last question in a way republicans could understand. Because had he just said yes while that would have been accepted by many Dems some republicans wouldn't understand that message. Instead of looking as he just danced around the question. As he spoke and answered questions he sounded like a reasonable person which is the difference from many republicans of today who are both in office and trying to join the crazy train for a check. This is what people mean when they say you can have a different opinion and discuss different topics. That's what it's supposed to look like. The rest of the republican candidates don't want to see change and continue a narrative that doesn't speak to what's really happening or happened in America.

Whoopi used to be on her own sitcom years ago, and I still remember her character talking with her brother about politics. He identified as a Republican. And, to this day I remember Whoopi saying, "A Black Republican is like a Jew for Jesus." Made me laugh so hard!

He was pandering to the panel... he should run as a conservative democrat but he isn't going to get far as a "republican."

Thus is why I like the view, they give everyone a chance to say their piece regardless of their political affiliation. That 70% of Republicans need to stand up and speak out and I hope they do when it come around to selecting a nominee.

No, Mr. Hurd, we still have to march for our rights and it is sad.

While Hurd is one of the most decent republicans we have seen in a while, he danced around answering Sunny's question RE: systemic racism. To me, that indicates he is more concerned about optics within his Republican party than advancing efforts to eradicate longstanding institutional forms of oppression for racialized persons in America.

We have to stop getting excited about any Republican that appears reasonable - not being crazy is a pretty low bar. Will Hurd voted for Trump over 80% of the time, backed Trump’s tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, supported withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, voted to ban abortion nationwide, opposed legislation to lower prescription drug costs, voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and received thousands of dollars and a A rating from the NRA.

When you apply for a job, you are asked how well did you do in your previous job. How did you effect productivity, what was your influence on the culture at work, what were your accomplishments? Will Hurd was asked about the border. Was he productive, did he influence the culture in a positive way, did he get any border legislation to floor? No. He was a warm seat. I dont care if you sound reasonable. How hard did you fight to make positive changes in your role as a representative?

This man is so refreshing! If the rest of his party were like him instead of veering so far to the right, I’d actually consider voting Republican more.

Next time, ask him about his policy positions. What is his stance on healthcare? Where does he stand on police reform, gun control, reproductive rights, student debt, universal pre-K/3K and the affordable housing crisis? It should not be enough to simply denounce Trump and acknowledge that racism exists. Where do these candidates stand on these issues? The View used to have fierce debates on these topics.
