horrible interviewer... Will says something pretty interesting about musicians selling hardware and right now music lacking hard ware to sell.. a pretty interesting statement... next question the interviewer asks "So.. when are you and the Black eyed peas getting back together."

Hey! I have a right to criticize Will.I.Am because its my free will to do so. I didn't go out and hate on millions of artists. Wanna know who I really hate the most? Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Drake, Whiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Carly Rae Jepsen, and anything that MTV puts out today. Why can't we go back to a time when real music was on MTV like Metallica, Collective Soul or Jeff Buckley, or Radiohead?? You know what I mean?
@thisistheendpt2
@thisistheendpt2 10 лет назад
The interview where he explains what "sell out" actually means is a really informative video. If he actually stuck to doing that then his credibility might just stay intact.

He's actually being openly honest about a lot of how the industry works. It's a brutal beast, and it doesn't care about the individual artist, they just study the top charts, learn how the majority listen to music, and HOW they use music. Ever since late 80s early 90s Artist development started leaning more towards the appearance versus their actual talent. Michael Jackson, Prince, etc., you don't see people working that hard on making the music gold, Country is as close as it gets to "good" music hitting charts, because amazing sessions musicians are the majority of writers for country artists'. Essentially, the only way for an artist to make money and make a living is to get in the monstrous industry, and find a secondary job in that industry (just as he mentioned he even has) or it's to brand themselves. Which is a daunting task because how do you even begin to compete with companies that basically own the world and everything you view? It's fucked up, and he was at least willing to let some of the knowledge out and even give some advice. Yes it was vague as shit, and hit-and-miss, but that's more than a lot have done. I think the only way to compete with them is to form a team who has all the talents that a label has, marketing team, development team, and production crew, find trustworthy and well-organized people to manage specific areas and maintain the communication necessary, and create a campaign, or fundraiser if you will, and simultaneously document it, and make a how-to series and promote, promote, promote, and redo the process, put on festivals (he slipped out the hardship with "I'm thinking how to have a worldwide BEP festival" Because that's the only way to healthily benefit financially for a live performance) and start up branches locally, regionally, nationally, etc. Eventually, there will be competition with the lazy labels. And honestly, they deserve to create shit music. They've done hard work and built a huge company from nothing, they've served there purpose, and it's time for a replacement. That's my goal, and I can easily see it being done. The world needs it. Music industry needs to go away.

I hear you, but ironically, you used Prince and Michael Jackson as examples of appearance based artists from the 80's, when those guys were more talented than most artists from any decade. You're right about the 80's and 90's starting to push out garbage like Madonna, but Prince actually played at a session musician level on multiple instruments, and wrote and recorded all his music by himself. Michael Jackson was singing adult music professionally before puberty.
@jinjer9313

@Lee Curtis. When I mentioned Prince and Michael, I was saying you don't see people working as hard to make their artists' and music sound great. So we're on the same page! :P

Why do you guys hate him so much? I love him, his mind is so innocent and eccentric. Ignorant yes.. but who cares? He tries to put out a positive message. Much better than some other celebrities in the lime light. He is the mirror of modern culture's technological hopes and fetishes. Ungrounded, overestimating, naive and superficial. One of my favourite characters in contemporary pop culture.

People dont understand what Will I Am is talking about because they're used to hearing their own failed ideas being parroted back to them, then they say "yeah, this guy sounds like me. Hes smart!" To hear what this man is saying, you have to take the time to actually pause the video occasionally , LEARN what he just said, and delete from your brain the old shit that didnt work.

all he's saying is integrating artificial intelligence into the environment. at the end of the day we've already been on this course towards a microwave society. I say that metaphorically to mean real time getting everything now and literally being microwaved by the radiation. I hope we prepare ourselves for the negative effects of this instant oatmeal.

Will seems smart but... when you think about what he is saying... you realize he is merely of average intelligence. Will on one hand you say that hotels engage with a science to make you feel as if you are at home in a hotel room... but then later ask why hotels use mirrors instead of cameras and display systems, or why hotels have scales instead of floors that weigh you when you step onto them... because then the hotel room wouldn't feel like home. you answered your own question.
