I totally understand how hard it is for you to spend the non-running days after the injury. 😮‍💨😥 I happened to twist my ankle by missing a step on some uneven ground whole entering a grocery market in early October, which caused the 5th metatarsal bone on my right foot to be broken. My podiatrist gave 2 options: nonsurgical cast and surgery. The reason why I opted to take the surgery was because the broken bone could not be securely aligned without a surgery. It was painful throughout the first week right after surgery with skin irritation like sore spots due to strong compression. Now I still have to wait a a couple of weeks 'till I get doc's green light to step on my right foot. This Fall has been so depressing, but I believe we all are surely getting back on our feet and lace up the shoes in tears of joy. Good luck to you as well!!!🍀🍀🍀

hi. im a drummer and have a prolonged (5 year) stress fracture in my right foot from the bass drum pedal in the second and third metatarsals. i also made it worse by running. is there anything that you can recommend for my feet? i need to be able to play drums for two hours a day. i usually play high intensity rock n roll. its my life. i had switched to barefoot running shoes both for running and drumming and they may have caused problems.

I gotta broken 5th metatarsal in my left foot I don't know what kind it is though it just says closed nondisplaced but they didn't specify what kind it is though?? but they referred me to orthopedic surgery office they are gonna call me at the end of the week for my appointment. It's so painful though the pain goes up into the bottom of my heel up into my ankle and especially in my outer calf and upper outer thigh it's feel like an immense painful pressure . im not a runner though but i do have high arches and I'm a cashier at hardware/lumber yard store so i am always on my feet but I honestly don't know how this happened.

I had a 5th metatarsal fracture in an accident which broke the bone into 2 pieces, forming an "X". Had surgery done with the use of a pin which was later removed. It's been years now everything ok except for i permanently lost some movement in my little toe. It doesn't cause me much problem, but it won't flex it as much as it should. I don't know if that's common or not or else if something could have been done better in the surgery or the physiotherapy.

Hi! I just got surgery for a jones fracture on my right foot. Dr. Rose put a plate in and notified me that I had a piece that was pretty loose and the fracture was bad since it was broken in three parts. Lol that is so crazy! I’m still not sure if surgery was the best option. I was able to walk with a minor limp. But I definitely did not test running, jumping, speed walking, etc. My foot felt like it was being squeezed upside down hot dog style. In addition, it felt that it was healing in a strange way. And gently touching the bump made my pinky toe feel some sensation. It was so odd. I also was unable to turn corners while I attempted to rotate my foot towards to direction of the turn - it felt like doing so was misplacing my bones. So I was wondering, what would have happened if I never got the surgery? Jess

I've not ran or jogged for a year now. Even walking for more than 30 minutes starts to give me discomfort near the 2nd metatarsal where a small part of the bone had fractured. It has healed, but there is still pain and discomfort there if I overdo it, especially so when doing any kind of calf raises. I long to run, but I don't think I can anymore. Part of my life was jogging and now I cannot do it. So unfair.

I've slightly displaced my 2nd metatarsal and they have put me in a boot and given me crutches, is this a normal thing or should I be concerned I should've had surgery and when I go back in 2 weeks for my second Xray they will give me bad news its not healing properly. I can feel where it is broken and it feels abit pokey but if I gently touch it when I have my boot off for a shower I cant feel anything obvious. Its not exactly painful just very uncomfortable any advice is much appreciated.

@@DocOnTheRun third metatarsal had a clear break half way along the shaft. Orthopaedics said no need for surgery. I'm out of the boot and can walk in a hobbling fashion in which I can put a little weight, maybe 20kg, on the front of my foot but certainly not my full weight. The last visit to orthopaedics was a cheery goodbye. He said I had achieved clinical union though not yet radiological union, and didn't need any further follow up. I wonder whether I had simply come to the end of the local subsidised protocol for toe fractures. Certainly there has been gradual progress since the trolley slipped away from under the 200kg piano, sending it crashing down two months ago. Foot is still swollen though less than before. Mostly this is revealing a battle between my innate fortitude and my equally innate impatience for improvement.

@DocOnTheRun
@DocOnTheRun 2 года назад
Thank you for watching and sorry to hear about the crack in the 5th metatarsal bone. Did the doctor who put on your cast say you could run at 1 month, or say you would not run at 1 month? Whether or noty you will be able to run depends on many factors...NOT just time. It all depends on WHAT YOU DO DURING THAT TIME! To tell you for sure and answer your question, . I will need to ask a number of questions before I could answer your questions and make any specific recommendations. The Metatarsal Stress Fracture Course for Runners was created to help runners with metatarsal fractures understand exactly which treatments I have found to be most effective with runners who need get back to running. You can access it here: www.docontherun.com/doc-on-the-run-products/ Some runners prefer to arrange a private call to discuss their specific circumstances and get back on track as quickly as possible. If you already have your X-rays, MRI or CT scan on disk, we can even review them in detail during a 60-minute Web-Cam (Virtual Doctor Visit) Consultation. If you just need to speak with me to get a second opinion discussion by phone or over webcam, you could do that later today or whenever it fits your schedule. @@DocOnTheRun I'm an average healthy male who's 24 years old with no known complications and have had an oblique fracture on my first metatarsal after falling from height. The doctor put a K-wire through and have taken it out after a month. Could you please for my peace of mind just help me understand how long it might take to get back to running once I've healed assuming everything is and goes well. You don't have to be specific. I know you don't want to specify because you might want to be responsible. I'm only asking for a general time frame for the usual scenario.
@DocOnTheRun
@DocOnTheRun 2 года назад
@@doseoffaiyaz It isn't the case that I do want to be "responsible." I cannot be irresponsible! One study on stress fracture healing time stated healing times for study subjects to return to sport ranged from 4-52 weeks. Thats is anywhere from 1 MONTH to 1 YEAR! The difference in healing time is your medical history, fracture history and course of action since injury. Giving an estimate without understanding your variables would simply be irresponsible. Thank you very much for sharing your story so others can learn from your experience. I cannot speculate on whether or not you're going to be able to walk properly, or how many months it might take for you to walk properly is it all depends upon the severity of your injury, the surgical technique used by your surgeon and repairing the fracture, your overall health status and all of the additional things you do to actually speed up the recovery process. What did your surgeon tell you about how long it would take?

Hello Kiran, I am sorry to hear about your metatarsal fracture. The amount of time it takes for you to heal after surgery has nothing to do with the date your college start date, but I do understand why you would want to be able to walk when college begins. Based on your description it sounds like your doctor told you that you could walk, (although you would be limping), right now.
