I didn't realize it until this video how much your videos had changed when you were going through the stress of the summer. Today's video felt like a return to my friend Jess and her lovely perspective on things, in her lovely dress, wearing her lovely smile. Thank you.
Jess thank you so much for your last video. My husband and I have been dealing with similar things you brought up. We kept wanting more land and a bigger house. It started becoming stressful planning for those things. We finally decided to just live in the moment and be greatful for our little Homestead on 3 acres and our single wide mobile home. I’m about to give birth to a baby very soon and that is what is most important right now. Soaking up motherhood and continuing to grow food and raise our livestock. Today I picked some tomatoes and peppers and I felt God telling me this situation we have is “enough” for us. If he wants more for us he will make it happen. Blessings. ❤
🙏🏼thank you for your comment 🤗similarly looking at other land 🤔possibilities and tho we’re in “older age bracket” you reminded me of what is truly important. Bless you.
I donate to Samaritan’s Purse organization because I’m too old to volunteer physically. Recently, S.P. has been working in Sudan to provide food for the thousands and thousands of refugees who are escaping the war area. I put a picture of a child I call “little man” on my fridge to remind me to pray for him to have food today….that the protein mush will fill his little belly. The people are putting up whatever kind of shack they can to get out of the weather. It makes me so thankful for my older house that we’ve lived in over 50 years that I get tired of sometimes and my little bit of yard that I have to tend. You can dream your dreams while you live in the moment. It is so moving to think you are embracing your season of life right now. It won’t always be like this. Warmest regards. 💜💜💜
It's the lightness you feel when you've figured out the right size for your life. It's so easy to say yes to one more thing when all the things are good, and so hard when you've gooded yourself into overwhelm. There is no failure in recognizing that and right-sizing your life. Thank you for living your life out loud. We all have so much to learn.
Jess, I just flipping love you and Jeremiah and the way you are vulnerable and share your lives. You guys are so brave and lovely!! It's incredible how we can all have these shared human experiences so far apart and still be connected. It was such a pleasure to meet you guys this summer. Your authenticity and commitment to community is inspiring! Thank you for sharing! ❤
I grew up in Alaska and we had Lilac bushes in front of our house that would bloom in late summer. I fully thought lilacs were a fall flower and was gobsmacked to see them in spring when I moved “down south” to northern Oregon. 🤣
In El Salvador and I believe some parts of Guatemala, it’s customary to use banana leaves instead of corn husks to wrap our tamales. They are kept moist when cooked, giving them a totally different texture.
Cuban tamales are my absolutely favorites and they are cooked in banana leaves! They have the meat mixed into the masa in addition to having a filling. THE BEST
I love all your animals and the names you gave them. I hope you & sweet Miah are happy with all your decisions. Thanks for mentioning the different growth in states that have a short growing season. Here in Northern Illinois, things are wrapping up for winter. Kinda sad.
So wished I was holding your camera for you while you were sharing that watermelon! Then maybe I could of had a just a taste of it too! LOL! Blessings Kiddos! 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕👵
😂 I have goats that rarely graze because they love brush more than grass/hay. I give a grain snack at night, provide hay, 2 acres of free range and throw scraps from the garden. This morning dead sunflowers from the garden at the morning snack. 😊
Hey Jess, I believe instinct will kick in🐐. When I had my Alpines I did dry them off and up’d their nutrition prior to breeding so their body is ready for kids. Goats are great! So glad to see y’all 🤗🤗💕💕
Hey friend, it’s so funny you mentioned the differences in landscaping in New England compared to the South, because when I go down south, I do the same. My son live just north of Houston and I’m like I want foxtail ferns and agave plants too! 😂 It’s interesting at least to me. It weird to me that I can’t identify the native plants like I can here! It was. Nice hanging out with you on your video!
Our Mini Nubians are just entering breeding season in Alabama, give them more time. You can also synchronize breeding if it comes to that. I have a little dairy with our goats.
I dont goat...... But I had a goat friend say she retrained her goats to grass by putting their hay on the grass..... Not sure that would work for you.
If you listen to the guy that was heavily involved with the beginning of major AI he got out of it and thinks it really isn’t great and has completely switched sides
Because Nubians are ones that only cycle in the Fall, I would say their heats should be starting soon and if your buck is showing intense interest in one in particular, she is likely close to cycling or in active heat. If I remember correctly, though, wasn't she the one who mothered him, too? He may just be showing off how big he is now. LOL But yes, nature will take over even when goats have been used to having artificial insemination to get pregnant.
Your goatie girls will come around to the buck. Sometimes it takes a cycle or two for them to not push off a young buck, and it can take a cycle or two for a young buck to get the groove right lol.
Hey Jess, long time watcher but quiet commenter. Have only commented a few times but really wanted to comment today. Your videos have been a true guideline and inspiration for me. I love how transparent and honest you are with us about all you and Miah go through on your homestead. We finally last year were able to make our long time dream move to NC and onto a chunk of land that fit all our bells and whistles. The wanting more thing has always been a part of our lives but once we were able to move here we also found that less is more. We are taking our time in setting things up for the few animals we want so that we can be prepared for most anything and be the best stewards we can be to them and to the land. I guess I babbled all that to just truly say thank you for showing us how to enjoy life and all the amazing things we already have. You are appreciated and loved :)✌🌻
Good video. I must have missed that you were drying off all the goats. Understandable. I don't know much about goats but I do know when they AI horses and such, they sometimes use ovulation chemicals which can mess with their cycles. Perhaps it is that or the fact that Witt is not "manly" enough for the pampered girls...lol. Personally, I would say that they will figure it out in their own time and until you say no more Mr. Witt and pull him out, it will be what it will be.
Grew up riding horses and thru my life! But now am unable to do so cause of my lower back being so messed up. Sure miss it!! Rather ride a horse than any bike any day!
Witt will win them over, eventually. Ladies just aren't as impressed by little guys . We've had to let the doe sniff on a big buck, while the little guy got the job done.
Grew the black cherry tomatoes for the first time this year! Love them! All tomatoes are coming on late and peppers too beings we had a cold rainy June with frosts. Not normal. Then it turned very hot for the next 2 months. Will get as many as possible then bring in the rest to ripen inside. Hope next Spring is more normal!!
How do you grow pumpkins which don't get eaten by deer? My last, best harvest was 4 teeth scarred pumpkins out of 20. Well fed deer that year. They ate the leaves and vines too! Peace and Blessings Jess 🌻
You should maybe try using those huge banana leaves for a mold, pour concrete mix in them and they make beautiful accents for the garden or wherever. I have seen them at farmer's markets selling for 75 dollars each.
I love hearing you talk about New England landscaping. It was such a pleasure to meet you at HONE, thank you so much again with all that you have going on to come meet us! Also, love your hair in this video!
Jess I'm very sorry. What you're going through right now but I can understand we all are going through that right now. What you're going through but you did the right thing and not building your forever home. And I'm happy that you both are taking the route of being mostly with your kids the next 9 years. I'm proud of that. I know the both of you, including myself are with God. That's where we need to be right now is being with God right now and what everybody is going through. I know all of us have a down time and disappointments but Jess I know that you know that God is with us in all that we do in this great big vast world correct ❗❗❗
Jess i love that you still get so giggly cute with Jeremiah. Y'all are such a beautiful couple. I enjoy those little jokes between Y'all. Much love to you both❤❤❤ May our Father God continue to bless you in wisdom and love.
How wonderful to have the luxury to go out and grab a horse, saddle it and ride. I'm so jealous! Yesterday I tried to find raw milk here in Irving TX with no luck. You are blessed indeed.
Jess, I love your videos and it’s so inspiring to keep going. But I must say for horses when they get thrush we use what’s called Blue Kot and it’s an anti fugal. Maybe try that if the wonder dust don’t work.
Goats. Check the milk vein along their belly, watch for their back for shiney look… early tell about pregersOur experience is that they will end up standing if they are in, just call of nature 😊 Hay…if they in good condition ,give them a few days without hay and only light grains at evening feed ( to bring them in) they decide to eat grass.❤
I had a horse named Josie when I was a teenager and my Josie definitely had more Woah then Go too. That Gal didn’t get in a hurry…. Unless you road her pasture mate Joe without her… first time I witnessed a horse pass gas was when Josie took off running along the fence after my dad who was riding Joe. I laughed until tears poured down my face. I realized then it’s probably best that Josie girl keeps her slow and steady pace… 😂
I started watching you a few years ago. I became more serious about growing in 2020. It has taken me this long to grasp the difference location can make. You talk about the tail end of you tomatoes just when I am finally able to harvest enough tomatoes to make Marinara sauce for canning.
Your last video was right what I needed, thank you! I’m a new mom to a nine month old sweetheart and have been yearning for acreage for years. Suddenly, my husband found a perfect home for us with less than acre in our small northern town & we literally got the keys today. I’m slowing down to be with daughter and am going to put my orchard dream on hold for now so I can be present with instead of throwing my chaotic energy all around. Thank you for being honest about how it’s not really possible to do it all, all at the same time!💚
