It’s for ratings but it’s also because Russ is one of most hated players ever by media and so many of them are threatened by idea of him bouncing back and solidifying his HOF credentials so they are trying to speak him being benched into existence at this point. I agree! If Fields were anything close to what these talking heads are saying, Chicago would have kept him and wouldn’t be drafting Caleb Williams. The Donkeys cut Russ because he refused to defer his injury guarantee for 2025 until 2026. That was it! Sean Payton only benched him for two reasons: retaliation for that refusal to defer, and so that he could hopefully lose two more games and move up the draft board. He had been trying to tank anyway, which is a not-so-well-kept secret around the league. He wanted to tank for Caleb Williams and scapegoat Russ for it by depressing Russ’s stats, and Russ wouldn’t let him. That’s why Payton blew up on the sideline. He didn’t want to win the Lions game but Russ did. And Payton purposely lost the Patriots game too. As far as the Seahawks, Russ dumped THEM. I live in Seattle and have worked closely with Seahawks staff. I know EVERYTHING that went down, and national sports media has it all wrong. The Seahawks had ZERO intention of trading Russ when they did. There is public proof of that. Russ forced his way out by telling them he had no intention of signing with them the next time free agency his, which would have been after this upcoming season, which was three years away at the time he told them. They traded him to get the most value they could timeline wise. They had rejected better offers before trading him to Denver, and they rejected those offers because they had no desire to trade Russ. So Russ forced that either his declaration that he didn’t want to be there anymore. And the Seahawks were embarrassed because they had already made public declarations about how they were excited to get Russ back and felt the 2022 Seahawks would be contending for the SB! The narrative that Seattle had made a decision in 2021, when he was barely into the first year of his new contract, that they weren’t going to pay Russ another large extension four years down the road is ludicrous. The Seahawks were embarrassed because they had publicly committed to Russ and Russ dumped them, so they made up a lie that Russ only forced his way out because they said he wouldn’t get ANOTHER large extension to save face. A team wouldn’t know whether they’re going to keep a QB that far out, especially when (1) he had been as good as Russ, (2) the HC was a fixture and loved him, (3) the salary cap was increasing, and (4) Russ would have had three more seasons to get them to a SB. The Seahawks have fooled people into believing that they had decided that they wouldn’t sign Russ to another big deal in 2024 or 2025, even if he had led them to a SB in 2022, 2023, or 2024, the latter year in which he would still be only 35 years old, which he is now. Now, how stupid does that sound?! *RUSS DUMPED THE SEAHAWKS AND THEY WERE EMBARRASSED!* Back to Fields and Caleb… The media is promoting this argument that Fields could beat out Russ, blaming the Chicago Bears organization for Fields’s lack of development. In the same breath, they believe Caleb Williams will make the Chicago Bears an immediate contender with virtually the same squad. If Fields has the kind of talent and skills to outplay Russ, how do they justify Chicago moving off him? How do they reconcile that with this hype that Fields can somehow beat out a QB like Russ? It doesn’t even make logical sense. If what they’re saying is true, Chicago should have at least kept Fields for a year and let the best man win there! The Bears traded Fields because the Bears know Fields doesn’t have franchise QB ability, PERIOD! Furthermore, if Russ were in Chicago, Caleb Williams would sit the bench too! He wouldn’t beat out Russ, not this year and probably not the next. This seems like a conspiracy to drive Russ out of the league, and I know why: Russ has angered Goodell with his plans of NFL ownership. The BFL doesn’t want a blaq owner, and if they can prevent it from happening, they will. This is the first step in a bigger plan to ensure that Russ never constructs a viable ownership group and becomes the BFL’s first blaq owner! It sickens me that the NFL has blaq sports media members participating in this destruction of a man whose only crimes are (1) trying too hard to maintain a pristine image, (2) stealing the hip-hop tweet queen from all the rappers, (3) befriending Alex Rodriguez, and (4) being a bit too corny. The irony is Russ at his peak ranked higher among his peers than Big Ben. Russ had 2nd most TDs ever first 10 years in league. He had most TDs in league over 5 year span in his prime and has most TDs over last decade. Big Ben never even ranked in the top 5 in any of those categories over a 5 or 10 year span. That’s despite having better weapons than Russ in his career. The media decided that Russ is washed because of what happened in 2022 despite the fact that he was injured. They have been trying to bury him ever since. It's why he has a chance to make them all look foolish because you're right they are literally a sleeper team that's a legit contender with that roster.
