First tractor I drove by myself was an A just like that. Every kid should learn how to drive on one. My favorite is the 720 though.

I have a 1940 A with optional electric start I’m working on now, it’s the first one I’m doing and I learn a bunch from your videos. I live those old two cylinders. Really enjoyed the 720 restoration too. Thank you

My dad had a shop and a couple of farmers in the area were using those old (they weren't old at the time) two cylinder John Deere. I remember an A but it didn't have electric start. It had finger grips cast in the inside of the flywheel, no gear for a starter. I guess you had to change the flywheel to put electric start on them. How do you start that thing by hand without tearing your fingers up on the gear? Or is it even possible to do. One of the farmers had a R model I loved to hear that thing pulling hard. There was no mistaking the sound of a two cylinder John Deere.

Excellent video Brandon :) also Dads Strength :) also 1949 JOHN DEERE A running perfectly beside Rad problem and want get NAPA brand bottle of RISLONE in rad in also let run thru put new rad cap when cold plus run motor to for 1 hour more it seal leaks fast also much ! RISLONE is jelly fluid gum seal and works excellent worth ever $ worth plus more ! Also Brandon I know be on You Tube with you and everyone do have any tractor you use or show at shows has Crank type to start motor up with may ask or just look for ones do that still ! Be nice videos show on viewers how do and how do right from wrong ways !

love your videos. I'm a fan of the old JD's too. question, what is the shroud on the outside of left wheel on that 49 A? Noticed there's not one on the right side. I have a JD -H and an MT, they both have the 96" axles and I have to be careful not to "catch" anything with excess axle. I know guys have cut off the extra axle, but, I can't bring my self to do this. was wondering if shroud has anything to do with those long axles? Keep up the great work....~Ron. New Park, PA
