I bought this Chevy C10 over a year ago and I try to get this truck running and driving. Here's the catch. The engine is seized and won't let go. I'm going to give it my best shot so come along and see who wins this battle.

I bought a '66 Chevy C10 that sat in a barn for 20 years. The 283 engine was seized, and it took me two weeks to free it. I tried almost everything to free it with no luck. I bought a can of Kroil Penetrating Oil, soaked the engine, then left it alone for four days. The engine was free when I went back to mess with it. Kroil is expensive ($35 for a 16oz can), but it worked for me. You have a nice truck, and I love the patina. I can't wait to see you get it running. Good luck!

Hey Jim. I'm glad it is coming off that way. I really wanted to have it feel like you're invited into my shop and hang out. I love the name of yours. I will have to go look at it.

My 62 C10 had 1 cylinder seized. A 235 I6. I mixed burnt motor oil and mineral spirits and put a few ounces in each cylinder. A couple weeks later it broke free. We dropped the oil pan and cleaned it out good. It runs good now 👍👍👍

Yes I did . Towed it down the road and popped the clutch in 3 gear and it broke the engine free . Same truck same engine .

I have thought of doing that too. Most likely I will do that before I remove it. I'm glad it worked for you and I hope it works on mine too.

Same here. I had an old truck with a standard trans. I tried the usual solvents and when nothing worked, my dad pulled it 5-10MPH with me riding the clutch enough on and off to bind up the motor. Didn't want to pop it but I would have as a last resort. After a few tries it broke free. It's worth a shot. Best of luck. Also nice to see you're and your wife are taking care of your mothers.

I was told that you put it in gear and you rock it back and forth to free up the engine. Marvel mystery oil is great for that. But if it is stuck. Rebuild it. Nothing good will come from forcing a engine to run like that. Curious to know how much it costs to rebuild a 283.

I've tried many things and with the condition og the piston this enging shouldn't be started. I plan to pull it and rebuild it for my daughter's Jeep. I'm not sure how much it will.cost but it shouldn't be very expensive.

I have a 1964 Buick wildcat that sat untouched since 1975 as well, we put marvel in each cylinder wires and cap from my other 401, battery 2 cycle gas to the carb turned the key it cranked for about 10 seconds

That sounds great. I wish the pistons weren't damaged on mine so I could get it going. I'll pull it and rework it.

It's important to put the distributor in correctly or it won't get oil to the shaft. Later ones had a slot all the way around so it wasn't as critical.
@josephcivita1450
@josephcivita1450 10 месяцев назад
Those distributors used to seize up all the time. Penetrating oil and a side hammer. Sometimes you just couldn't save the distributor itself.

I thought number 1 was TDC, but at around 34:41 it wasn't. It appears it unstuck. But I may be wrong. Did I miss something?

Wow, fun fun! Pretty sure muratic acid eats aluminum. At least I am now. Ebay has piston sets for $150-$200. Have you tried putting her in gear and rocking the truck? Have you tried removing the flywheel inspection/dust cover and prying the wheel teeth with a crowbar? Super intreseted in following. I don't work on cars, I've just been watching will it runs long before it became a hashtag. Ps. you should hashtag this. Cheers

Thanks for commenting Peter. I'm not sure about the aluminum and acid, but the pistons looked like that prior to putting in the acid. Also, both would have been eaten up the same if it was the acid. The bad cylinder had some kind of metalic grit in it when I pulled the head, and I'm pretty sure that was the piston. It's so hard to know what all happened in those cylinders with it sitting for 48 years. I'm glad your watching and got started watching will it runs long ago too. Never thought I would do one. I have tried all those things and no luck. I will be pulling the engine and tearing it apart in the future.

Why did you take out the motor and rebuilt it . Just asking i am curious.
@Exit45Restorations

I plan on taking that engine out and rebuilding it in a few months. I wanted to see if I could get the truck running with the original engine before I tear the truck down and rebuild it with a new engine. It was more me just seeing if I could take it for a short drive before it gets taken apart

You got more than one bad piston there . Just pull the engine and send it out to be prebuilt.

That engine is coming out to go in my daughter's Jeep. I have a corvette that I'm taking the engine and suspension out of and using them on the truck. I have another video that goes into that.

It's coming out and getting a rebuild then going into my daughter's Jeep. I have another engine for the truck. I just wanted to see how the engine looked and if it was rebuild able. The cylinder walls looked good and so did the valve train so it gets another like.
