15+ YEARS OFF THE ROAD and this little yota has found his way into our hands. Its too cool to pass up the chance to mess around with it, so lets get to it! If Tim doesnt save this car I sure will! They are getting harder to find so scoop one up now while you can ! We thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one !

What i was about to say, Toyota's reputation comes a long way, i don't think Toyota has ever had much trouble with their cars excluding a few minor recalls and little idea flops but it's nothing compared to Mercedes, a Mercedes of that vintage yes it would be quite reliable too just from watching legitstreetcars

I bought One of these beauties for 300$ mine was CLAPPED OUT. Little to my knowledge there was mattress foam, yes.. MATTRESS FOAM stuffed in the shock towers A turkey baster as an oil cap I only had brakes on one side and best of all the rear axle was floppin' around so bad I don't even think it had more than one mounting point left to the frame! I still regret getting rid of it. Such a unique and fun 4 wheeler. Had my fun with it and sold it for $275

Nice score on that sweet baby. Not even surprised the least by the results and the lawn mower battery. Especially once you said it was the timing belt that ended it. The 3A-C is a non interference engine, so no worries when the belt breaks.

I'm honestly not surprised it ran. Those Toyota's will pretty much run until they are wrecked! (provided you take care of them like you should) I had a Camry that ran like new until it got totaled out. It had 380,xxx miles on it. A Toyota with less than 200,000 miles on it is barely broken in. I used to know someone that had one of these cars with over 400,000 miles on it that he used as a daily driver

My family had that same car possibly with a different VIN. It was the same color and 4WD. We lived in NC but we may have sold the car by 2000. We loved it. One moment may have shortened the life of the car. In the late 1990s my family was trying to get rid of a clothes line post. After much digging, I suggested to use the 4WD and extra low gear to pull out the post. It didn't work and the car emitted black smoke. We stopped as to not risk further vehicle damage. It never ran as well after that event as it had previously. As for the clothes line post, we found that my grand father had "over built" it by securing it with a large ball of cement. We had to chisel that away or something. We left the other clothesline post. My dad said that that clothesline post could have withstood a direct nuclear blast.

Save this one, Jay!! These are hard to find nowadays. My dad had an '83 SR5 4wd that ran for 250k miles before he sold it. That was a sad day. Only thing major he had to do to it was rebuild the carburetor and replace the timing belt. He put bigger diameter tires on it to raise the ground clearance a couple inches and took that thing everywhere he could in the Colorado mountains on trails keeping up with Jeeps and misc 4x4's until it plain ran out of power. Those engines only had 55 horsepower but very torquey. I learned how to drive a stick in that car when I was 16. Loved that car.

In my personal opinion older cars like these now a days deserve better credit than what they’re given. The metal in them is much stronger, they can survive the harshest of elements and if you wanna car with some up grades and you own something like this pay for the upgrades to it instead of wasting your money buying something new. I have a 1990 truck and it gets me from point a to point b. Whenever something in it goes bad in it I get it replaced to keep it going and I’ve changed out it’s cassette stereo to a auxiliary stereo.
