The sound of this cranking over without starting brought back memories. My dad had an old 510 4 door that only started right up when you didn't need it to. I remember him outside at nght trying to start it to make sure it would run when he needed it the next morning.
@@nonamesplease6288 ... next time you see the old man you can tell him the second set of points was for emissions and was set 5 degrees retarded from the main set. If you set them both the same, most people wouldn't notice. There were marks on the breaker plate to make the change and you blocked one set of points with a piece of paper to set the timing. (or pulled the wire off)
that thing on the air cleaner is a bi metal strip opens up an air leak (small) to lean out the mixture when engine is warm (richer when cold) from my knowledge.
I’d find a kid who wants to learn how to do bodywork (or a trade school) and let them restore it. The low mileage would make it a worthwhile project. What better way to learn metal and fab work than by working on something without readily available parts?😬
I'd stand to bet that's 113k miles and it just ticked over judging by the amount of body damage and to be left like that in a still runnable condition. Just shows how tough they are!
We moved one of those that sat since the early 80s. It fell apart. I believe you could hide the transmission inside a basketball. At least the standard transmission.
Love your optimism, which was rewarded of course, well done. I have never seen a two-door version of that car here (UK), different markets had different versions, shame it is not a sought-after car, so probably not worth repairing and not going to be demand for spares, great video, thanks for sharing! Greetings from the UK!
The 210 coupes are VERY sought after here...one of those cult cars that goes for way more than you'd ever believe. Too bad that one is in such bad shape. I've seen non-wrecked (but still no headlights, sitting forever, window or two broken out) go for 8-9K. If it wasn't wrecked, he could use the money to completely restore another car of his to almost new!
Nothing like redlining on a first start ! lol I could see the carb flooding ! If you still have the brown 4 door 210 , use this one for parts and make it a field beater , great fun !
One of the things inside the air cleaner area is most likely for the emissions device which alternates warm vs "cold" air intake. it is a vacuum controlled flap which is used to change between the two types of intake.
Great video, it's good to know y'all are still putting out the same high quality content we've become accustomed to. I was one of us talking to the screen, " It's newer than you're used to, it's got electronic ignition, 😂😂." It's always good to see you. Thank you for sharing with us and keeping us in the loop.
These cars 20years ago you could not give them away, body on this one pretty rough but mechanically it should be good!! The early Datsun Bluebirds of the 60s used a copy of A series Austin/Morris engine. Improved a little of course, better breathing.
My grandma had a '79 Datsun 210 wagon. I LOVED that car

....My other resurrection channel got too famous and decided to change it's format and became a Cleetus wannabe channel...no thanks. CONGRATULATIONS....you are now #1....as I predicted. Well done.
My 1979 is parked outside. Has a leaky radiator and burns oil and needs bodywork and fixing some rusted panels but I still drive it around every week or so to the supermarket just to keep it active. 5 speed transmision. With good tires it would fly!
Unfortunately Datsun, or as it's known today, Nissan has nothing to offer that can compare to their great cars of the seventies and eighties. My first car was a Datsun. In 2015 I bought a new Frontier pickup. It was so hard on gas that I traded it in for a 2017 Sentra. I was hoping that the Sentra would be the last car I'd ever need. Nope, the CVT transmission is a nightmare. In the end I traded the Sentra for a Mazda CX5. My experience with the older Datsun/Nissan's was great. Not today though, they're just junk.
My Brothers first car! In brown! Smelled like WD40 & gasoline the 10 years he owned it and the sound of this car brought me right back to the smile on his face the day he drove it home. Rest in peace brother!
Those old Datsun, Nissans are tough as nails. I think it could be modified into an off road buggy. My cousin did it with a VW, so why wouldn't it work for a Datsun? 😁 Good job, thanks for sharing!
still running my 1976 120Y .. 550,000 miles last month.. only had brakes, clutch (twice), tires and fluids since I bought it with 44,000 on the clock in 1984.. absolutely bullet proof if maintained. the 76 was the first year they dipped em.. the 75's just rusted to nothing.
I love these videos, ever since the '29 truck first appeared i've been watching. Really Excited to see the video coming up. Keep at it dude, we love it
Wow, I had a 82 Datsun 210, same car different grill and mine was a sedan. It was a 5 spd and had that 1.5. That thing lasted through alot of use and abuse. I know of another sedan, like mine still going and has the big D on front like this one featured it's a 79 I'm sure. Little rear wheel fun to drive car. That engine sounds very good and tight. That car could be straightened up enough to run and drive.
@@jenningsmotorsports7554 hey how's that caddy going, do you feel like selling it? I would love to restore as much as I could on it and turn it into a rat rod
@@kymck1816 I pulled the engine out of the car and it is about to go to the machine shop to be hot tanked going to rebuild then engine probably going to put it in another vehicle because there is not much left of the car just fenders and grill and cowl
New sub here. I've been binging on your videos for the last few hours and I gotta say...awesome content! Thanks for sharing these, they're really fun to watch.
Good to see an update! Figured you were battling a bit of weather. That poor old datsun. Too beat to fix but there's enough there to part out. That motor sounded strong. Never see those. What car is that sitting in front of the GMC?
This is this channels no3 favorit for me. What a cool little car! List of my favorites o far. Hope she get's fixed ✌️ 1. International C30 2. Ford Ranchero -69 3. Datsun what ever not named
I had a 75 510 a10 3 door sedanette. Weird ass lil rotary car. Had a Nissan marine engine in it. A lil B210 6 plug engine. Wouldn't die fer shit. Drove it on purpose fer 2 years without oil. Loyal lil bucket bomb.
Excellent video 1979 Datsun (Nissan) 210 car with 1100 CC motor and transmission also axle also remember those car when age 5 to 16 ! They did job for get people point A to Z and very low cost to run ! Remember hearing lots got 35 mpg anywhere also full tank get 450 miles on tank full of 87 to 94 octane gas and oil last 6 month between oil change! That part air cleaner ask what it Backfire Acesserory what does if carb Backfire was fire shut fuel off on and act like fire extisher but were reliable at all! Datsun only did but when change Nissan drop feature out on vechiles built it ! The big finger feature was close off carb getting fuel but usually broke and after snuff air and fuel flow Backfire happened! Poor design tell that !
I would suggest anything from the 1990's back with a Chevy small block. The 1/2 ton pickups, Caprice, Impala, Nova, etc. If you feel like getting more into the imports, look into Toyota pickups, Celicas (RWD especially, those being 1983 and older). The old Datsuns (like the one shown here, just not as much "body customizing") and Nissans that were RWD would be good too. The very first pickup that I owned was a 1970 Datsun PL520.
My had a little Datsun HoneyBee with a big ol' decal of Bee. (also had an AMC Hornet....hmmm). It ran really well. The Carb died, so he found a racing car carb and made it work. (engineer dude)
Contact Puddins Fab Shop....he loves Datsun mini trucks and if yall are close enough to each other may want the motor and transmission.... he also has a youtube page. pretty cool guy like yourself.
Wow! I had exact same car but mine had 5 speed manual ! Great little car. Eventually the tranny got stuck in third gear and I junked it because the frame had really bad rot. Loved that car!
Hey, do you make good money being a mechanic and restoring cars, I lm looking to study automotive engineering and I want to swap old muscle cars to electric motors.
The emperor japan wanted a cheap car that all his people could own so he asked 3 engineers to build a car the first two said we can build you a car but it will take at least 2 years to design and build the 3rd one said well i can design and build it in 4 months and the emperor looked at him and said datsoon!
