I’ve been watching for awhile now, these videos help keep me sane through some really tough times. I appreciate all the work you put into making these!
I was 10yrs old when my dads cousin stopped by the house in his new gold 64 Riviera, to give my dad a ride. It had the 425 with the dual quad intake and when they left the curb, it was white smoke and tire marks all the way up the street. Course I was hooked..
@@glennstatham960 Gimme a break! I love watching Derek, but the only thing that this guy does like Derek is get's old car's running again (like a million other people), many who have no idea what RU-vid even is. He doesn't use any of the words or corny phrase's Derek does. Tools & Fuel? Like he should invent his own or something?
I agree Glenn Statham in part but the actual reason I reckon why Vice Grip Garage subscriptions took off is when he drove his ‘Will it run’ cars 7 to a 1000 k’s home. If Steve did this I think it will peak subscriber interest. Derek puts a lot thought and planning into his ‘will it run will it drive’ content and gets the rewards for his and his family’s efforts. Steve’s a great knowledgeable car guy.
Just watched for the first time , Excellent! I Love Buicks too. The Joy of hearing her fire up after years of neglect, is Priceless. Good job guys, and BTW you sound like a fellow new englander. 👍 Keep up the Great Work ! Thank you for inspiring us all.
I always look forward to Richards “whhoooooo” celebration when he gets one running. Love the enthusiasm. Working my way through all your videos they are all great, keep up the good work 😀
Awesome!!! 👍👍 I had a big grin on my face hearing it roar to life! 😁 This car is DEFINITELY worth saving, even restoring. The Riviera is definitely a classic. (I've got a 1:25 scale model of one!...a 65) Nice work!!! 👏👏👏
Great to see you get it going, and seeing the excitement build as it showed signs of life. I like how you emphasized the importance of safety when preparing to change the starter. Beautiful car.
You Sir, have the knowledge but more importantly the patience of Job! Once again I wish I would have known you in my younger days, when I had brought my 76 Jensen GT from England, bought it off the factory floor, with .75 miles on the clock. Lotus 907 engine, and a Getrag 5 speed. Split walnut dash, all Smith gauges, manual choke, clock went to 140….oh forgot twin side draft Stromberg carburetors! Please keep these vids coming!!!! Die hard Fan ….
I never had a Buick that old, but I had a 77 and 80 LeSabre.......and an 84 and 87 Regal. Love Buicks. 😊 Ever since my father got a 70 LeSabre, I've loved em.
Wooooow...I started to cry a little bit. Amazing work dude!! I own a 64 and it's getting closer to get her back on the road as well. It's been since 1995 was the last time I heard my baby run. Wish me luck!
OMG I can't believe you found this one, Wow! I get just as excited as you do because it is hard work, takes time, but it is what we love to do. Thanks again.
LOVE these old reviera's, real Detroit iron. I had my uncles '63 Buick Lesabre with a 410 Wilcat engine, great highway car - youve got a great sounding engine in this one-!!!
My 71 skylark was my favorite car to have the privilege to own. I had many different cars Chevelle and trucks but the Buick would always get me home and won about every race I did .
Fortunately Buick used flat straight glass for that rear side glass, so it should not be too difficult to get a replacement glass for it. Nice find! I remember these when they were new. At first I did not like the parking light in the front fenders, but the design grew on me and eventually I came to like all the body lines of the Rivera models. Hope you can get it fully restored! Best wishes!
My father bought a 63 Riviera new and it was the most beautiful car I’d ever seen. It turned heads wherever we went. I took my drivers test in this car and used to steal it from my parents at every opportunity and I’d make the scene in it. I wish I had one in my collection now. The 63 had a 445 Wildcat engine and there was no car that could touch this car off the line. It was a real gas hog getting around 15 mpg. But the gas for it at the AMOCO station was 42,9 cents per gallon for the premium stuff. It’s so sad to see that car in such a decrepit condition.
Thanks for the sub Gary. People often tell me a Riv was never available with a 4 speed, but I remember seeing a 64 that had one back in the 80s. Was yours a factory 4 speed?
Cool video I’ve got a 65 Riv std 425-465 t -turbine 400 trans . Was my dads . He worked at a gas station at that time. His boss had a 65 GS wth rally wheels. His son has it now.
Awesome! Yeah I had the same Riviera ( 64 ) way back in the 70's, mine had the 425 nailhead and a 140 mph speedometer. Mine wasn't stuck and ran like a champ, I raced a 69' Roadrunner w/a 440, down a empty two lane highway, for about an 1/8 mile or so, and blew his doors off. I had another buddy who had a 69 Cougar with a 428 CJ or 429? It's been so long I can't remember which but he thought that thing was it, until I blew his doors off too! Those nailheads had a sound all on their own!
@@whattherust - yes sir, that's a fact, they sure are! A lot of the older drag racers like the old nailheads bc they could take a pretty good licking and keep on going, plus with those smaller valves those things were torque monsters, but they could add things to them to bring the HP values up too, I know when I was a kid, my old man would take me and my brother, in the spring and summers to the dragstrips in central KY here, but I remember seeing a lot of guys running nailheads in something. They've even been known to blow away some hemi's , on the dragstrip anyways, as long they had the right combination of add-ons. But, anywho, take care bud and I'll be watching 🤘🍻
Great styling and amazing cars, especially at the time they came out. In the late 80's there was a lady in my dad's building selling hers very cheap. It was in amazing condition and he showed it to me. He didn't buy it and always regretted it.
What a great find and recovery. Good job with the video. Rivieras were definately a great car, especially with that engine. She definately looks restorable. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your time to make these video and educate us with your experience in cars. We highly appreciate your efforts. Wish I was assisting you guys to rebuild or restore the car and learn from your experience. If you need free assistant please do let me know but you have to give me sometime during summer. REGARDS
As A child in England I had one of these in the late 60's, it was a corgi toy car. I loved it as the front & rear lights used to reflect to look as though they were working. Will always remember the Name Buick Riviera. WOW
Hey brother, I think I've come back and watched this one 2 or 3 times now and I just can't get enough of it...this is one heck of a great video! This one nearly whooped ya. But ya kept right in there with it. By the way, I had a 64 Riviera 4-door hardtop, 425v8, dual exhaust with glass packs, when I was just outta Army boot camp. Dang, what a great car!
Hey Man. Just subscribed. Loved your vid and mostly your Im gonna get this to start attitude. Well done shes cool as. I love Buicks very cool. Looking forward to more. From New Zealand.
