ABANDONED 1971 Buick Riviera Boat Tail! - Will it RUN AND DRIVE 100 Miles Home?

Several times I almost threw in the towel on this one! This is a RARE, very sought after 1971 Buick Riviera Boat-tail, with the famed rear end designed after the 1963 Corvette Stingray. It's got a 455, Th400, Buick Maxtrack rear end and best of all; it's been off the road for 30 years! Think it will run and drive back home?

My grandpa's 1972 Buick Electra 225 currently runs but has been in a barn for 30+ years, 70k miles, interior is a literal time capsule. I've not been making time to go over and give it the small love it needs like wheel cylinders, brake masters, and ps pump. I'm going over to work on it tomorrow, he's 85 and the car was his lifelong best friends who give it to my grandpa when he passed away. I want to get it to a couple meets with him this season

"I got a back track waterfall like you wouldn't believe and don't you go chasing it!" Derek never seems to run out of humorous witty things to say which is one of the reasons I love watching his channel. I do the same thing when working alone and I just don't say these things out loud when I'm working alone. I'm sure many of us are but I have to say that he does this so well that he could probably take up doing stand up comedy if he ever gets tired of fixing these old cars. But I doubt that he ever will get tired of that. It's just too embedded in him. Fixing these old cars is just in his blood and who he is and I would love to be able to turn a wrench with him someday. Wouldn't that just be a treat. LOL

This Iconic Buick would be a treasure for whomever ended up with it... Such incredible styling and that motor, crazy how it got resurrected by you in the field like you did with such humor tongue in cheek. Every time you show another vantage of the styling, I just have to remember to calm my pounding heart, the deck lid on the rear there is amazingly unique, obviously including the vents as you mentioned but just its shape is so completely crazy... If anyone saw this deck sitting alone in a field and they were not born yesterday, they'd know what it belonged to immediately.

He said the chrome AC unit cost him like $1,500 bucks so no telling the truth in that matter it was a master piece he even had the wheels re-chromed locally.

What impresses me so much is that you never curse while working on cars and engines, especially old ones. Anybody who knows what working on cars and engines is means a lot of cursewords when things go wrong (which they often do) like stripped screws, electrical shocks, the occasional insect sting, and the difficulty of trying to figure out how to solve problems that come up out of nowhere. The fact the you keep your cool and you never cuss is (to me) just as impressive as your mechanical knowledge and your awesome videos. Keep up the good work Derek!

While I agree, I do understand the need to branch out. A guy can get burned out doing the same type of thing for years on end.... So while I've never been a big drag racing guy, and probably will skip some of that content, I understand why he wants to do it. Not every video is going to appeal to every subscriber... and I've seen it happen to a lot of youtubers over the years... where they feel they have to chase growth and end up getting burned out doing only the types of content that maximizes views... in the end everybody loses because the creator loses that original passion that got them the following in the first place. Long story short, I hope Derek just keeps doing what makes him happy and is content that he can't please all the people all the time.

I learned to drive solo in a '72 @ around 9 or 10 years old and have always wanted a Boat tail of my own...🤔 At 54, I think I deserve one, but the dollars and sense just won't allow me the opportunity. The '72 had a console shifter, electric seats and still a 455, and was one of the greatest cars ever on a lazy Summer day down the Owens River road in Bishop, CA !
