I can’t tell you how much these have inspired me, I flew across the country from indiana to Albuquerque NM to buy a square body suburban, replaced the radgeeator in the oreillys parking lot before climbing the grade out of town and drove it 1410 miles home. I am glad I stumbled across your video. You are VERY skilled and talented. You taught me to think really hard about restoring a vehicle. It should only be done if you have the skills to do it all yourself or rich enough to hire it done. Neither of which I am. Thankyou for taking us on this journey with you, it was long but entertained me while recovering from surgery.😂 I was also impressed with a good ole boy from Tennessee, I lived there for about a year. I am a westerner. Love the southern folks. Your post caught my attention because I love Firebirds. Used to have 79 Trans Am and 81 Formula. Regret selling them, I can no longer afford one.

Had almost the exact same car in high school. Same interior except vinyl seats, same interior and exterior colors, mine had a rear spoiler and front wheel flares. I really loved that car but it was gutless. I think mine was a 77 but it may have been a 78, it was a long time ago lol. When you said "the buzzer works" brought back a funny memory. I was installing a stereo or something and that buzzer was driving me batshit. I could not disconnect it so I beat it with a hammer until it died. Lo and behold about 4 weeks later that car turned into Christine as the buzzer slowly came back to life again but first a dull broken buzz then later it got back to full strength. It was haunted!

Pete from downunder. (Australia). Got a joke for you. You can use it. There was this bloke that used to climb up on all the big tractors at the field days. It wasn't enough to just sit up there. He had to fiddle and try to start the tractors. He got into a lot of trouble and was moved on. He was quite insulted and got angry and decided to not climb up on the tractors anymore. A couple of weeks later he was walking past a hotel (pub) and there had been fire in the kitchen. The fire was out but the Hotel was full of smoke. The chap says don't worry, I got this. He walked in, took a deep breath, walked back out and expired his breath. He did that twice more and the rooms were smoke free. The publican was very appreciative but also curious. He asked the bloke how did he do that and clear all the smoke. The bloke then told him he was "an ex tractor fan". This reminds me of when you open a moldy vehicle. Love your show by the way.

Artie here. My wife and I really appreciate your channel ( s ). Especially the family friendliness. We don't like all the foul language in so many shows so we don't watch them. She was never a car gal but watches, learns and asks me questions and that's great. She is beginning to get the " pull " of working on old cars. I have a 72 C10 that's been sitting 18 years and tore it all apart within the last year for a rebuild. Doing my own work. Not SEMA but a solid driver we can enjoy. It sat in 2 friends yards and her carport long before we were even married. ( Coming up on 6 years ). She realizes it isn't just a hunk of junk. Thank you for the encouragement and LOTS of mechanical knowledge. Not to mention the laughs. God bless

When i was in high school, my best friend got a brand new 78 Firebird from her parents. It was the most beautiful car i had ever seen at that time. It was black with red interior. It had the factory red stripe that went from the front bumper, down the side and up over the roof. Some of you may remember that stripe, it was really cool. Anyway, she let me drive it a lot. In fact, i loved that car so much i bought a new 79 model the following year. Wish l still had it.

I understand this is Rusted out beyond repair but there is an extensive aftermarket for this car. And I know you generally don't do it but you could buy another frame for it and do a resto. And just because it's a 78 I think it would definitely be worth it. Bring that icon back to life!

Except it’s a unibody car and doesn’t have a frame you can simply unbolt from the body and roll out its part of the body . Now the front clip will unbolt and all the panels and boxing is available to make the floor and unibody like new but that is a huge amount of work . Now I know they make 1st and 2nd gen Camaro replacement body’s from fire wall back that transfer’s the vin because it is considered a “ replacement part “ even though it’s 3/4+ new car . I don’t think they make the 2nd gen trans am body but I’ve seen guys buy new and replace the rear quarters with TA. Quarters but that’s a jag of work . I don’t see the value in trying to restore that car it is a base line Firebird . Not a Big block 4 speed W6 Trans Am . Just my opinion

Derrik love these adventures of yours! I too have a 305 small block in my 74 Camaro and never regretted installing it, these motors do it all, run smooth, give good mileage while doing that, are reliable and surprisingly stout, and can push just about any car or truck along very nicely. Compared to the 350 small block, these 305's overheat less, burn less fuel, run smoother and just last decade after decade, and do so reliably day in and day out. This whole video just reflected how surprisingly good the 305 really can be after sitting for literally decades!

I never seem to tire of these VGG long-format vehicle-rescue videos. This was one of the best as far as I am concerned. I can understand why sometimes the audio isn't the best under some pretty difficult circumstances and appreciate all the effort and skill that goes into setting up the shots, explaining to camera, choosing the music and doing lots of editing. As for the car, I know some people would put in the time, effort and money to save it, and its hard to see a great-looking kinda-good-running car meet its end, its also hard to see them slowly melting away in rusty acres, but I'd be surprised to see VGG fix that rotten chassis. Whatever works for the channel, its a business that has to pay the bills like any other.

Hey Derrick, I just wanted to tell you you're an inspiration. I bought a 1988 Dodge D 100 SWB June 2019. The truck had been dormant for 5 years: open windows sitting under a tree, all kinds of junk in the cab and bed etc. I took a tow bar, air tank, floor jack, tools galore and a lot of hope I can make it. Anyway I got the truck home after stopping every mile to air up the tires lol. With some basic shade tree technology I got her running. Good times! However, I just got me a 1978 k15 4x4 stepside with the gl+3 speed 350ci. I'm going to go to the frame and start from the ground up. Thanks to you and your family for inspiring guys like me to take on a challenge.

When I was a teen my first car had a radiator leak just like this one had. My father went into the garage and mixed up some bondo body filler and smeared a glob of it on the radiator where the leak was and told me to let it sit over night and solidify. It worked and I drove that car for years with that repair on it.

Just a tip on radiator leakage, to get it by rules, dont tight the cap all the way, or even just set it on, it will blow off the pressure there and slow the leak, especially on a puddle jumper trip, Also can carry a bottle of pvc glue, works on pinholes on a racecar, Cup the fins to help hold glue in place, til it firms up....😊

It must cost you a lot of money to replace parts when you are trying to drive these old vehicle 600 or 800 miles back home, you are always spending money on parts and gas on every break down. It is so good you keep your sense of humor when you have to know the vehicle will keep breaking down in different area's. Keep up. thanks.

Great episode as always. Couple of comments: I think with regards to that air freshener, part of what makes them most effective is turning on the heat/AC on recycle and let it run with doors closed for 20 minutes (as opposed to closing them with the car off and walking away). Also, with all the head gasket and radiator stop leak, it probably "fixed" the problem of the weep hole letting you know when the bearing is completely shot. Keep up the good work.
