This makes PB Blaster look like a joke 👉amzn.to/3rokA3J
I bought the cheapest Cummins 12 valve diesel motorhome at Copart. It was listed as inoperable: no start, no drive. We had it towed out of the yard with a massive semi rotator wrecker. Will it start, run and drive - or did I get hosed on this deal?

"Will it run?" It's a 12 valve Cummins. It will *definitely* run.

The motor not starting may have done you a favor. My 94 HR Endeavor has a B5.9 and the manual says if it isn’t started every month you should pull the fuel pump wire and crank it till you see oil pressure then start engine. I’ve been looking into a pre oiler system (that’s always made sense to me) and Varna Products was great. They spoke with me about their system. The gentleman took his time. We discussed the Cummins 5.9 and he made the comment that the ones that sit tend to have problems on the top end. So spend $1500 for a pre oiler or pull the fuel pump wire and crank her till she’s oily.

If you have Thin-lites like my 94 Endeavor you can replace the fluorescent bulbs with a kit that converts them to led’s for $20 per. I’m changing out all my bulbs and fixtures to LED to reduce draw. The drivers wall on mine was water damage and had mushrooms growing out the back! I’ve cleaned it up and still have a ways to go. Way more work and steps than i have time to describe here but oh what a project! PS when they built these the rear bed deck runs out to within about an 1”+ of the fiberglass cap and that lets water and dirt form the road to run up to behind your bed wall. I’ve got hard eps foam all down the drivers side now and the back wall too up to the window. It took out the inside bedroom side wall out up to 32” just below the window. There was some water intrusion from the rear gap. It now has hard foam and the whole bedroom has new 1/4 oak wainscoting around. An oak cap on the rail is next. I’m planning to build new side “boxes” on the bedsides replacing the funky space killing drawers from some oak 3/4” butcher block slabs I just found next to a dumpster ( Made from a desk the OSU bargain center chucked) and put oak tambour doors on it. It’s like any of these things cars, boats etc. Do it for pleasure (work?) cuz you won’t likely get paid well for your time. Keeping busy might help you avoid some trouble though! I’m going to keep going on it. Good luck!

Those fuel shut off solenoids have 2 magnetic coils. One is a strong "pull" coil and the other is a weaker "hold" coil. The stronger pull coil is energized only when cranking and it overcomes the spring. The weaker coil is energized as long as the key is on and it's only purpose is to continue to hold the arm in the up position once the pull coil is no longer activated. Also you want to make sure that the arm is adjusted correctly and is holding the shutoff lever all the way up or you won't have as much power as you should.

I have a 1992 Fleetwood bounder Oshkosh chassis 5.9 Cummins. I paid $7000 for it five years ago. And I love it. It gets 10 1/2 miles to the gallon running the generator at the same time as well as pulling a small car behind.
@tomhopkins4168
@tomhopkins4168 3 месяца назад
Are the generator and rv engine on separate tanks? Because the generator is gas not diesel. Also I was not aware that you could buy a bounder with a Cummins very interesting. I am considering swapping a Cummins in an older rv and that’s how I came across this. The 454s seem to get pretty tired when they hit about 50 or 60 thousand miles with these campers… understandable there getting older 30 plus years in age in some cases and the fuel economy is just not practical in today’s day and age with the big block chevys and fords they also have a constant load on them being that it’s a camper and not a truck that can just unhook also they were built pretty heavy back in the day. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated thank you. God bless

I've got a 1993 southwind DP on the same oshkosh chassis (bought last year). Needed work, but it's on the road now and we're having a blast running around the mountains of GA, NC, and SC. Check out the exhaust manifold for cracks, mine was broken where the manifold drops down for the turbo. Losing lots of boost there. You're probable setup for 230HP with that MD3060 trans, I've got an AT542 that can only take ~230, so the motor is set for 190HP. Also, those overhead lights eat batteries, the replacement LED fixtures are dirt cheap on amazon and worth every penny. ALSO, if you've got an amp-clamp DC voltmeter, check the draws on all the crap plugged into the expansion terminals on the 'ford' fuseblock. My ac compressor / ac clutch / ac fan / condensor fan was using ALOT of current out of that fuseblock, __heating up wires__. I added an accessory fusepanel off the battery block under the 'hood', switched it's power via an 80AMP relay from the ignition circuit, and transferred all the ac circuits over to that.
@BootstrapRevival
@BootstrapRevival Год назад
You are not kidding - those relays get hot. It looks like one melted the housing already! I counted the overhead lights, coach lamps, and the underbelly storage. 45....I need 45 bulbs. That is nuts.
@Bloodbain88
@Bloodbain88 Год назад
The engine I used for my Cummins swap into my Chevy came out of a Ford F-800 box truck. It looks exactly like this one, same manifold that tucks the turbo up under. Same turbo. Same giant starter. And you're right it has a 230HP injection pump. In fact the engine is actually labeled as a "Ford FD1060 diesel engine." Which I learned is just a rebadged Cummins. Runs fantastic. Just a great engine.

My friend has 2 mobile homes.. One was too small(so bought a bigger one) tried to sell it was worth way less then the loan so they kept it sitting.. (still paying)someplace..Older mobil homes are NOT allowed in a lot of parks they check the age to allow entry.. Reality.. Tried to sell 2nd motor home on pay as you go to someone they knew.. He Stopped payments when it had repairs needed.. I am not kidding.. They had an rv magazine sent to my address for year and years i read them all i learned a lot.. Roofs leak a lot so do windows causing a lot of unseen damage.. Most still use wood framing.. I lot need a truck stop for repairs they are truck under carriages.. 4 miles to the gallon.. Hook up your sheet and water lines..They even had a cart for transporting your sheet if not near a hook up. ever take your poop for a walk about.. you will... Dont by one thinking a great investment they are money pits.. Slideouts jam when long term parking settle and go off track.. freeze up too.. Pay extra for some one to hook up your poop and water and electrical.. worth it.. surge supressors adapters needed not all parks the same.. You be carrying sheet and if not maintained it gets hard.. I highly recommend that magazine, forget name but it was very informative.. Electrical batteries how they charge etc its a whole new world.. Of a fastly depreciating home.. woops there is the generator ,what powers it propane gas diesel tank size is it connected to diesel tank.. Then the heating system whats its fuel?? cooking too..did you emember to fillit does it leak.. Honey did you fill the fresh water tank? Its not a car its a complicated device..Then solar system to charge batteries?? thats complicated all on its own.. 120 or 12volt?? hows the fridge powered? have fun..
@BootstrapRevival
@BootstrapRevival Год назад
I'm no stranger to RV's. I think this is #7 for me. Coach engine and generator pull from same diesel tank. Fridge, stove and hot water are run off the onboard propane tank. Shore power runs microwave and inverter. 12v runs coach lights and water pump. We camp in state parks, national parks or public use lands - they don't discriminate against older campers. Replacing RV roofs is no fun but doable. Fortunately this one is one is good condition. Nobody like emptying black tanks. Thanks for the comments!

Hey Mark! All the RV's I've ever owned had one main enemy and thats water intrusion. Walk the roof, check under all the windows and doors, step on the floor everywhere. The floor should have a consistent feel through the whole unit. If buying a class A batteries and tires are extremely expensive. Check for dry rot cracks not just tread depth. Let us know how the RV search goes!
