3 years back I did a curb pickup of a similar vintage Honda mower. Having watched Mustie1 vids I followed his lead and after good cleaning and installing a $10 carb kit I’ve been using it ever since! Great video, now get that 58 running!
I had the exact same lawn mower. I bought it 30 years ago. It is one of the most desired lawn mowers made. Don't sell it cheap. The gardeners love them.
Many small engine repairers (including Musti 1) don't think de-rusting the magneto legs or flywheel magnets has any effect; getting rust off the two posts to which the coil is mounted/grounded, however, can make all the difference. Just sayin'.
I love those Honda lawnmowers. I had one in high school and used to make ton of side cash mowing lawns as a side gig. Paid for my first car from that. They will last forever. I have my pops the mower and now my sister has it and it still works
Cool!!! look at the benefits of hanging around with the master Musti1, nice work Jason. It does not always work after spending time with my cousin; who is a guitar master : I'm still playing standard simple chords working on bar chords.
I do this alot, most of the time I'll fix them then usually ask the ppl I got them from do they need a mower and if they still need one I'll give it back once it's running,if not then I just resale for very cheap, money can't buy the memories that when me and my uncle used to work on stuff like this,he passed away now for 13 years, watching the dirt bike videos and VW brings back alot of memories,he taught me to drive a straight shift at 12 years old lol, they had to fix the seat so I could reach the pedals, good times and awesome videos man, keep them coming,im a new sub as well
Dude i had that same mower for 10+ years!! Found it on the side of the road, never changed the oil, it would take down small trees!!! Haha the blade clutch finally exploded, so I just bolted the blade straight on to what was left and kept mowing for a couple more years!!! Haha it was still running when I scrapped it! Only because I got a tractor!! Honda makes a badass mower dude!!!!!
Hey Jason, before starting, I would have soaked the blade housing with WD to loosen that up since it looked a little crusty under there. But you got it running and no rusted through floorboards or any fossilized critters in this video. Nice job and tutorial on how to prep a non-running free mower.
Good mowers, just that they're heavy, but deck won't rot out. Friends had a newer one that they pushed around since the self-propel apparently was broken, but super small yard.
That’s a cool sound and push mower anyhow I just got done watching the video and a VW commercial plays at the end I find that ironic because you’re the Volkswagen guy they got me back into VW is just saying
Absolutely if not thee best mower, then one of the best mowers EVER.Shaft drive,Clutch,Magnesium deck.Try and find one of these used.I paid $400 for mine used.Great find.
Nice job J. Those Honda mowers are bomb proof. Can’t wait to see what you do with the 58. You should surprise us and finish it. Just kidding. Your videos are the best.
Dear 5150mxVW "J" 👍👌👏 Very unexpected content but nevertheless very well done! This kind of Honda quality mower was/is very expensive over here in Germany. Fortunately it has 2 different speeds (usual mowers are always way too slow for me). Hope you will change the oil and give the old girl a good maintenance. This machine definitely deserves a bit TLC. 2) Until now Mustie1 is his utube idol. But maybe, if you rescue more stuff like this from free piles, your great little petrolhead son Josh will change his mind sooner or later. 😁 ;-) 3) The 58 agave bug hood already looks sooo good. I love the glass lenses in the taillights. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
yes, i was shocked when i saw it in that pile...I thought for sure it was going to be blown up . I did grab a 70's honda I have edited some on ....thanks man
@@5150mxVW anymore Mopars in addition to that ‘70 Charger? Not to mention that nice ‘69 Satellite that makes a cameo on the channel every now and then!😯
Looking at the results when you were testing it makes me wonder if there is even a blade on it. LOL. I saw the blade when you checked it out but it didn't seem to be cutting much. Nice job though.
@@5150mxVW yes I understand however I have a Honda motor one a power washer and I got a aftermarket for it. The biggest problem with small engine carburetor is that they go bad when using ethanol gasoline. All ways use high premium fuel on all small engines.
recoils and me have a very long but short history lol. I was going to change the oil , sharpen the blade and take it an actual lawn but I ran out of time. I'll do that ,clean it up and add it to the end of another vid.
not this one, push handle down to drive and back handle to engage blades. If the pull cord was up by the handle you would use the lever to actuate spark. The pull cord is on top of the engine, you can't pull the cord and hold the lever down....
that was just some rubbage at the shop....no tree branches, just weeds...I'll sharpen the blades, change the oil and try it on a lawn like I wanted to but ran out of time / rain
