Hi Dominique. Just a heads up, not all fragrance oils are created the same. You need to check the IFRA documentation sheet for each fragrance because the maximum safety usage differs and some might not be allowed at all. The safety amount should be listed under section 10A. The reason I'm mentioning this is because the customer might get some of this on their fingers or hands when pulling the plug out or refilling the diffuser bottle. You want to keep your customer's safety in mind. 😊
Thank you for this! It is something I have since educated myself on and went back to check all of my car diffusers were in compliance, I think I might make a video on that as well. Very important
Hiii! I’m in dire need of some guidance. So my diffusers base is 30% fragrance oil and 70% base. But the fragrance oil according to IFRA says the safest to use is 3%, so should I make my diffuser with (option 1: 30% fragrance oil and 70% base. Or option 2: 3% fragance oil and 97% base?). I feel like it’s option 2 but just want a second opinion and don’t want to waste product and provide a safe item to customers 😢
@valeriegongora1727 Hi Valerie. If IFRA says only 3%, that's what you should go by for safety reasons. And 3% is a very low amount and you may not actually smell the FO once it's mixed with the base and then in the diffuser. If my FO is 10% or less on IFRA, I don't even use it. I've got a FO that smells like the Black Ice car freshener and if I remember correctly, the percentage rate was extremely low or it wasn't allowed for diffuser use so I had to chose something else. I use that in candles instead. I hope this makes sense and helps. 😊
Hey there!! I just started making these myself. I sell mine for $8 each or 3 for $20. I sold out 2 weeks ago and I'm starting to restock. My vessels are the same as yours.
That’s great to hear! Proud of your success with these! I just did a fair last week and they sold very well! I have another fair this Saturday, and I’m curious to see how they do. I love the 3 for 20 idea
@@knightlightcandleco thank you!! Congrats to you as well!! Wishing you the best of luck in your event this weekend! Sending sold out vibes your way! I just subscribed to your channel! Looking forward to learning more! Try maybe the refills! Im waiting on supplies to try mine!
Hi there! I don’t understand how you guys are getting these to smell like anything. I use the same base and even tried a different one and did the same ratio and 3 different scents and from a lighter one to my strongest and you can only smell it for a couple of minutes after you tip it. I’m glad you got yours to put off a good scent in your car. I have to test more before I add it to my items. Thanks for the video!!
Hmm I’m not sure exactly what may be the problem. Make sure the fragrance you are using is approved for the reed base. Make sure you are following the IFRA guidelines as well. (I should have went over that as well).
@@knightlightcandleco thank you for responding! Yes I watched a video with that information. I’ll double and triple check though to make sure before I give up. I appreciate you!
There is a diffuser usage percentage on fragrance oils. If they say 0% you won’t get any smell to last. I had the same problem. I didn’t even know that was a thing. Kept wandering how some smelled so good and others didn’t at all.
I make and sell these.. and yes it matters . the fragrance oil shouldn't come in contact with your skin. some are OK like the ones made for soap and lotion. but most are not safe for skin as I'm sure your aware.. I sell a similar vial at my booth along with wax melts. I tested in my car and husband's truck for two months before selling. what I found is some of the little wood lids are faulty. they don't screw tightly and this causes the bottle to unscrew and fall to the floor of the truck. Luckily not much spilled out. The other one would swing so wildly over a speed bump or driveway that the glass would literally hit my windshield. had to shorten the slack on em.. they work really well. after 2 months my glass vial was still half full and it was 105 degrees for weeks and it didn't dry them out. You do need to tilt to add fragrance to the reed lid about once a week or so to keep it smelling and when you tilt it your fingers get coated in fragrance. they aren't perfect but they do the trick ..
@@Melaninbeauty88 so each of the containers I use are 8ml. So if you have a fragrance oil that allows up to 25% fragrance load. You would use 6ml base and 2ml fragrance oil. Remember to always check the IFRA to make sure your oil allows for that 3 to 1 ratio though!
Hi Dominique, don't forget to include your time and if you need to research and development on new products when you are figuring your COGS as well as other overhead items like labels, packaging, etc. I hope these do well for you!
I noticed you were wearing a Bucs t-shirt. Do you sell your products in the Tampa area? What markets? I live in Tampa and would love to see your booth. Thx!
@@anamirwald3346 hey! So I’m originally from St.Pete! However, due to my current W2 job I had to move to Maryland, so I’ve been here for the last 6 years. Huge Bucs fan though! If you would like, please shoot me an email at knightlightcandle@gmail.com, id love to keep in touch should I ever do anything in the area!
Yep I have it in my car currently. As the summers have gotten hotter, they certainly don’t last as long, but still surpassing a regular car freshener in my opinion. I’m on week 3 with my current diffuser and it is running low now. But the sun will dry out the cap more frequently
@@vivianspears9969 great question! Yes, once I’m ready to use the diffuser I take the plastic plug and discard it. I guess technically, do don’t need to do that if you wanted to re-cap it though
So I actually have a worksheet that I jot down my suppliers and the costs of their goods. It helps me keep track of costs, and supplier info should I need to re-order. Ultimately, once I have my COGS I input that number into Shopify for each specific product.
@@thomasmcmanus8255 I use the reed diffuser base from candlescience.com! I’d refer you to their website so I don’t butcher any specifics. www.candlescience.com/reed-diffusers/reed-diffuser-base/
None of mine smell - although everyone recommends the same. What am I doing wrong???????? Where do u get bottles from bc it might be the covers not being porous enough but not a scientist … above my brain grade
I'm sorry to hear that your diffusers aren't working properly! I'm not sure what could be the problem, but I get my 8ml diffuser bottles right from amazon! I typically buy about 300 diffuser bottles at a time.
