Another brilliant rebuild. I was very hesitant to buy a D4 because of the reputation for engine failures. Watching your channel & Christian’s videos excellent commentary I’d be happy to buy a well maintained one now. Interestingly another channel I watch is a DPF specialist in the UK. One of his clients has traded 3 nearly New Hilux for Discovery 5s (TDV6) All the Toyotas had engine failures & they’ve found the D5 to be more reliable. That certainly bucks a trend.

Fantastic job. I am so pleased for you both. The engine sounds sweet. As you said Vera, unless you've done this job, of putting the engine in and body back together you can't explain what the feeling is. It was great to see how high the front can be lifted with the rear bolts left in. This is how some places do the cross over pipe or turbo replacement jobs on them rather than split the body and tie up a ramp for a while. I bet you could probably remove the engine like that too..?👍🏻 looking forward to seeing it all done and the TuV complete 😁

How many other bolts are there holding the bumper on? If there are 3 or 5 then just ignore it. That is what a Land Rover shop would do. Drilling out takes too long and is not really necessary. Being more relaxed is also good for mental health.

Not much more satisfying than the first start on an engine rebuild - and nothing scarier than the first 100km!

hey Christian a question about torque wrench at 7:07 i agree that no torque is lost when using an extension, but i think torque test channel tested swivel sockets and torque wrenches (if i remember correctly), and the greater the offset angle there is with a swivel, the more torque you loose with same torque wrench setting. its not too critical component, its just a rubber engine mount, and i would do the same extensions setup like you did, but since you like technical details, i tought you might want to read up on it also another question when you are torquing periphery bolts around the engine or main suspension bolts, and using torque wrench do you torque them the same no matter if its dry, oiled, greased, copper grease, antiseize on bolt threads and washer surface ? i usually torque it the same, no matter what, but im afraid it could be wrong. Does anyone know how wrong is it? is there a solution for it? for example, when greased, use 10% less torque or sth?

Going through an engine rebuild and getting it to start on the first couple tries is as good a feeling as having comfort food made by your grandma. Glad it didn't give you too much grief, although the coolant leak should just be considered a normal part of a Landy engine at this point anyway.

Congratulations on a fantastic job. Maybe I will open the hood on a Discovery I buy one day and it will say LR TIME on the engine in white pen. I hope so!

I absolutely love these videos. My D3 is having all air struts, torque converter, front shafts, engine mounts, gearbox mount/filter/oil/pan, ride height sensors and all other fluids. Phew. Crikey, this is turning me into a nervous wreck. Now I've seen how complicated everything is in the Unknown Region that is my Discovery's engine, I cannot understand how it manages to start and run without fail every time, particularly as it's the same age and mileage as yours, and of similarly dubious heritage. To ease matters, I have installed an automatic voice recording activator where Vera says "Oh My God" every time I push the start button.

It was such a great moment when it started! I was clenching my arse cheeks in anticipation! Well done, and thanks, guys!

Awesome another one saved and on the road soon. My Disco 1 is still not going, and the rain has hampered my Defender chassis paint and wiring upgrade, not the best summer on record by far.
