A complete shock seeing a cougar of all things getting revived! My dad has a 70 with a Cleveland 351 and swapped in 4 speed. Bright orange, dual exhaust, mustang spoiler in back with the chrome light covers painted black to make it look like an Eliminator. Truly one of the best looking muscle cars there is! Unfortunately not that common anymore but makes them all the more special!

A friend I know bought a 1969 Mercury Cougar. His is the XR-7, which is a luxurious version. Built in November 5th of 1968 at the Dearborn assembly plant. A California car that has no rust and was sold by Bob Phillipi Lincoln/Mercury in Oakland, California on April 18th, 1969. It's in good shape but just needed to be cleaned up to be driven around. The cars has all the toys IE air conditioning, rear window defogger, power windows, power locks, power steering, rally wheels, vinyl roof, AM/FM stereo radio, automatic transmission. Engine is a 351 Windsor with 4 barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, disc brakes. Color is Wimbledon white with black vinyl roof and black leather interior.

Great video here Kevin and Angus!! With a lot of antique manufacturers (most often Fords on the channel), whether it be vehicles with wider tolerances within the valvetrain or the cast iron components or even just simple engineering designs, it is a testament to the builders that they were indeed built tough. Those 351 Windsors' live up to that definition.

Stuck clutches. Sometimes if you get the engine hot, so the flywheel gets hot, then drive round and round with the pedal wedged down they'll eventually break free. I've done this with tractors that have been sitting a long time with some success. The flywheel expands with heat at a different rate than the clutch linings do, sometimes it's enough to break them free.

Your solutions regarding the mechanics, electrical and fluids are phenomenal and your insights are far above many people I've seen. I grew up in a family of mechanics. My three Mercedes mechanic uncles took my 1984 Ford Ranger truck completely apart one weekend as a present to me and at 16 years old, if I wanted to drive, I had to put it together. With working rear brakes it is easy enough to break the clutch to flywheel 'rust-seal' by putting the rear up on axle stands so the rear wheels are off the ground, starting up in gear, and then just gently applying the brakes until the 'seal' gives up . . and you have separation! I have had to do this a few times on a manual stick rarely used Valiant 225, and it works every time.
@GenderSkins
@GenderSkins Год назад
Sometimes you could get that clutch to pop free, by building up some speed then slamming the brake and clutch at the same time to kill the engine. Which usually worked about 50% of the time. But more often than not, you would end up pulling the trans to do a clutch job anyway as the clutch usually would not last long once it rusted to the flywheel.

We had a 69 Cougar XR7 with a 351 Cleveland in it. Funny thing my dad ordered it with the eliminator suspension. It had leather upholstery. It was the dark green metalic with a black vinyl top, and factory mags.

😲Whaaaaat!? My jaw just hit my chest and my heart stopped for a second. How in the world do you guys always seem to find such awesome vehicles?! THAT is one of my dream cars! That would be in my garage being dismantled, with every screw, nut, bolt and part labeled while I clean and restore it from the ground up. D@mn! Okay, I'm officially jealous. Just hearing it crank at 6:45 was music to my ears. I wish the owner many years of happiness and enjoyment with that beautiful Cougar. Hope you guys have a great weekend! God bless.
