It wants to run but lacking fuel! Pull the carb off it, soak it in a bucket of fuel for a few hours to revive the seals, blow it out with compressed air to evict the ants and try again! Its so close!😅
I love trying to start old car engines. I feel your pain Graham. I bought an XD a few years ago that still had its matching numbers 4.1 alloy head crossflow. It was missing the alternator only, but in the end it needed a starter motor, fuel pump, spark plugs, leads, cap and a carby kit to get it going. It did eventually fire up and ran surprisingly well. These old 4.1 engines are superb !
I love it! That is such a cool patinaed classic! 3 months ago I actually drove nearly 10 hours (one way) from Queensland to Coonamble, NSW to buy my 1988 XF Falcon GL Panelvan. It's nothing too special, but it is a factory P/S, A/C, bench & column auto car. And after a lot of digging, there is only 4 spots of rust on the whole car, so I am very chuffed! I think it's pretty niche but cool for an 18 year old to have a panelvan 😁
The number plate was probably moved so it wasn't obsured by the tow bar, The cops used to ping falcons with towbars for obsured plates. Wow the battery tray is still there, they are normally rusted away.
Christen it in the back, and something will come to life eventually 😮😂 carbie fuel pump and plugs and so on like you said awesome stuff 👌🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺🦘🦘🏔🏔🌨🌨❄️❄️
sounds like it will go graham throw some new plugs in it will help the lifters will have bled down from sitting making it hard to start they used the same dizzy cap and rotor as the red motors should of off loaded it to peter anderson saved the freight cost lol
Have more faith in the aerostart. The spray has better effect if the butterfly is open when spraying. Or spray while the engine is cranking. Bit hard on your own though.
@@xacoupeguy would be a good idea if there were people that were interested in owning this car , would help you out with donating parts and help finance the build . Another good idea maybe auction it off or a kind of Raffle to get your money back .. I for one would be interested in the later..😎
A long time ago a friend had a mark 3 Cortina with the 250 and manual gearbox. That car was a beast, steep hills were no problem. The hump on the bonnet gave away the ones with the six.
Mate of mine had one as well, fully insured but starting to get rusty! Caught fire in the highway one morning on his way to work, he spent 20 mins throwing gravel, sand, stones on a burning engine bay before he finally put it out! After it was over I asked him why he did not just let it burn , collect insurance and upgrade! His answer was his golf clubs were in the boot!😂🤣
You know the rules if its got fuel spark and oil it should start if the motor turns over by hand but as for the rust it looks like body filler sucked up moisture
I bought a XB 250 out of a paddock been there a long time with about 50 other cars stuck gas in it and drove it home, tranny was slipping which is why it got parked
