This video absolutely saved me! I’m swapping a 4.0 from an 04 TJ to a 99 WJ. I came across the blind hole / pilot bearing and was really concerned which whether or not the blind hole came out. Thank you so much
I did the same conversion on my yj. I did one thing differently. I made a tube Trans mount. It went from One side to the other on the frame. With eurathane inserts. It makes it so I can take the skid off with out the drive train from having to be braced. Nice job Kelly. It makes me feel like I went in the correct direction.
That’s a great idea. I still have a stock transfer case which I plan on upgrading at some point so i didn’t want to spend time and money on a setup until I am 100% sure I have the setup I am going to stick with.
I did this swap about 6 years ago. Never regretted it. I didnt mod the tranny other than a full rebuild, new TC and the deep pan. The Terraflex adapter is no longer produced BTW. Mine has a slow leak back there so I am wondering if the original seal fits in the terraflex adapter. Nobody seems to know, lol. Great work BTW!
I appreciate your video and really hope you get it worked out. I'm simply struggling with pulling a seized 2.5 in a an automatic 2000 TJ and putting a very similar 1996 2.5 engine, that came out of a Manual trans TJ. Wires and plumbing are all different. All good fun...
Thanks, that video is more than a year ago, there are at least 3 more videos in this series. Now that it is dialed in, best thing I have done on the Jeep.
man i feel your pain! i lost third gear 2 days after spending months on a cj5 build. rebuilt another trans so i just has to swap and put it in and its just not feeling right. hang in ther it is very hard to get that wind built back up into the sail to get the boat moving again. youll figure it out trans shops are just entirely too expensive
I agree! My Novak shifter makes the t-case shift like butter. And so forgiving when adjusted correctly. Good luck 👍 I’m really interested in seeing this conversation through to it’s completion. My TJ came with the factory automatic tranny. 150,000 miles. It is kind of quirky though. It has to warm up good for it to work well. Occasionally after setting for a few days or weeks, it slips out of reverse. After a good warmup, it starts minding its manners. Any advice would be appreciated. 🤠. Cheers from high elevation Wyoming.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 the novak cable is no doubt the ultimate but man i really think that drop plate is really clever. Ive certainly learned a thing or two from your channel as i build my jeep a few parts at a time.
I watched your video of the 32rh transmission swap . I am wondering if you got the shifting problem figured out? Could it very well just be that you have the throttle valve wired completely open.... I have never seen any automatic transmissions. Regardless of make, that like to shift gears with the valve completely open. Because All of the fluid pressure is directed to low gear only. Hope this information helps you. Let me know. Krip.
I went from a manual trans to an auto tf999 out of a 91 wrangler in my cj7 unfortunately I have had nothing but issues out of the transmission since day one so I feel your pain. Hopefully you can get it sorted. Like you I went through my transmission and rebiult it along with a transgo shift kit air checked no issues at all but I found out my separator plate was pretty hammered. I will probably be going with a reverse manual valve body after I verify pressures which I haven't done yet. Best of luck.
Looks like we are in the same boat, lol. If it’s the valve body I will probably put a cope racing transmission, reverse manual valve body in it. It has band apply in 1st, which the other reverse manual valve bodies like cheetah do not.
Yeah that's the way to go. I like what you did with the shift gate on that sidewinder looks like it makes the shifting super smooth. Right now I have a modifies b&m shifter in mine I've been looking into a gated shifter like the one you have but haven't committed yet.
hey kelly send a message to the guys at percision transmission they have a channel and seem quite helpful. but they are in the middle of a blizzard at the moment
I feel your pain... I admire your drive, seems like a valve body issue to me. I enjoy the channel... What was the verdict on the torn flex plate of the tow vehicle?
Thanks. The wiring on the truck is all done for the fusible link delete, and the flex plate I ordered doesn’t work, so I have another one coming Wednesday. So hopefully back running this weekend
where in the world did you find the drive plate backing plate that goes between the flexplate and converter? Trying to get my 32rh swapped into my YJ and thats the last part I need and cant find one anywhere.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 I actually ended up finding a flexplate, drive plate, and bolts on ebay on the cheap about an hour after I posted this. Just need pinion angle shims and a driveshaft and the swap should be done.
Not familiar with the transmission, nor the mods you did, but normally when you wire the cable open the transmission thinks you want to down shift and shifts to lower gears. Did you try unwiring it?
No, the auto has a flex plate and the manual has a flywheel with a pilot bearing pressed into the crank. So you if you would just need a flex plate in tour scenario, which are not that expensive
Hi I’m having the same trouble with the reverse light switch connector on the transmission. The connector style on the Jeep’s wiring harness does not match the connector style on the reverse light switch coming off the transmission. Any idea what I can do ?
Rad designs doesn’t make this shifter, it is a winters sidewinder. I had contacted rad designs before I started this build but his shifter was like $100 more and I decided to go this route.
i had an issue with my 32 rh getting hot with a electric cooling fan, the stock fan runs constantly, cooling the trans fluid, but when the electric fan cycles off sometimes and if your crawling or really slow there is little air flow. I wired my electric fan relay control voltage into the O2 sensor power so the fan runs when the engine is running, and the engine thermostat controls the engine temp but the trans and AC get constant airflow.... but now i sound like a JK LOL...
I have the part number in my first video, but it’s a teraflex seal. And yes I have a trans cooler with a fan. The video was getting so long that I kinda just cut out some stuff.
damn man sucks... why not just keep the trans stock shifting...my stocker has the 3 gear shifter and it stays in first until i shift...just a thought, KISS method.
Yes, but there are other factors with a newer Tj, and what your trying to do with it. The 3 speed is terrible on the street, no 4th gear or tcc lockup. So if you do street driving I would build up an AW4 from a Cherokee, they are cheap and easy to find. If you don’t go with a full manual valve body you would need a ecu from an auto Tj of the same vintage.
I have not done any research on the aw4, so I am not sure. The 32rh shares the same platform as the mopar 727 transmission that is in old muscle cars and drag cars. That’s why there are a ton of options if you know what to look for.
