I went to Disney World to review Tianas Bayou Adventure For Disneyland. My reviews covers my main three concerns: how is the design, will it work at Disneyland and is it better than Splash Mountain.
bro just contradicted himself in this video.. check it out 12:19 then goes on to say 13:56 Like, which one is it? Youre not a biggest fan but you love the songs? lol what a shill
If you didn't know of the "controversies" surrounding the IP Splash was based on, you would've never thought there was an issue. It was about Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear and the dislike two had for Brer Rabbit. To interject that the idea that any race would be offended with Splash is way off base. The ride was entertaining, and I presume Tiana's will also be very entertaining. Outside of that thought, your videos are very entertaining and a joy to watch.
And this one is actually based in a salt mine in Louisiana that used slave labor. This all filled the need of a much needed refurbishment, getting Tiana in the parks, and they chose to virtue signal with this whole transition.
Even if you ignore the racial stereotypes of the characters, you unfortunately can’t separate characters from source material. It doesn’t work that way.
Finally a perspective that actually helps. I agree there should have been a villain, but It will fit wonderfully where the ride is situated in Disneyland.
I won't be riding until Disneyland, but I get the strong impression that Tianna's isn't quite of the quality that will get Splash Mountain super fans to forgive the loss, which is a shame. I'm older than Splash Mountain, so I don't have that childhood nostalgia for it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to love Tianna's. Still, we have to be kind to people who truly loved Splash Mountain as it was, as they did lose something special to them.
And also be kind to those that love Tiana's, because unfortunately you have Splash babies telling you that you're a shill and to go d!3 if you like the update!
@@user-ty6yl1hx1fYa I’ve been seeing such negative comments towards people who are excited for this ride and it’s very concerning! Majority of Splash Mountain fans are adults so to hear that negativity is appalling! This is a children’s theme park, that type of attitude isn’t pleasing to see. I am personally excited for this ride, and they all have to realize that attraction will eventually change and that’s just how it is.
@@user-ty6yl1hx1fexactly,Splash was the big thing at Gradnite at Disneyland and I absolutely loved it, but a change isn’t going to make or break my love for Disney. That’s the whole point of Disney 🤷🏽🤷🏽 to love and respect each and everyone which we all need
Unfortunately, Splash Mountain was the place that felt home to me and the heart of the park, Like It's the only reason I wanted go to Disneyland. (also I read the Brer Rabbit stories at a young age). I think the storytelling is a step down, and not even compared to splash, just about the most recent attractions have displaced storytelling that doesn't match the ride system, Not to mention the lack of stakes or thrill either.
I think it would've been a bigger statement if disney let their imagineers remake/reboot splash mountain but as an earnest, respectable, depiction of their stories and culture. But showing how they didn't market Iwájú and the anthology series that well, I can't enjoy Tiana's even at a moral point of view. "They could've done more" is what I'm saying, but everyone's been saying this recently.
@@toyaliensindeed, especially since Splash was created way after the death of Walt Disney and more specifically, named after the Tom Hanks mermaid movie with Darryl Hannah!🤔😜 Oh, by the way, Brer Rabbit was actually a slave in the original stories. The more you know!😉📚💫
The ride is loosely based on the characters and not on the movie, but you can benefit from viewing the movie. Nonetheless, the attraction story is so thin that it doesn’t even hold up in the entire ride that lasts quite long for a dark ride. Tiana is getting an animal band for the restaurant in 2 scenes in the middle with finale in the last scene is so wasted. And it didn’t even feature the villain, the best thing, Naveen is in the background in the finale. Demoted. So that’s what Disney has done to Splash Mountain.
How exactly did splash mountain insult people? And how does TBA celebrate everyone? Great review. Thanks for your time & honesty. It looks good, but sad to see a classic replaced. 😢
I love that you didn't watch any spoilers beforehand, so your review could be genuine of experiencing it for the first time. I feel like your review is an accurate one!
Splash Mountain > Tianas. The lack of any kind of antagonist or villian to create a problem to overcome for the ride story makes the events of the ride seem boring. Let's get band members for a party together and we will randomly get shrunk down to frogs while doing it just isn't good enough for a thrill ride like this and that big final drop.
Glad to hear your review! I've waited to watch all the other coverage because I wanted to get the design perspective...... I think you're right it will fit perfectly in that transition between New Orleans square and Critter country
Brickey, thank you so much, I LOVED your review and this video. One of my faves of yours so far. You almost made me cry. I have been going to Disneyland since a young child early 60's and there has been so much change. I also love New Orleans. This is going to send more joy to the park I believe. So happy for you making the trip, and then sharing with us. Made my day. Have a wonderful time there and safe travels.
Impressed that you rode this so many times. An excellent review and I appreciate your considerate words about other people’s feelings. You are a kind person.
As Brickey said, it's a story with low stakes: 1. Tiana is throwing a Mardi Gras celebration to thank the community for supporting her food co-op but needs help in finding a band. 2. Tiana and Louie gather several animal musicians that live in the bayou. 3. Mama Odie shrinks us to frog-size so that we can gather frog-sized musicians and fireflies. 4. Mama Odie returns us to normal sized and drops us back into the bayou. 5. Tiana holds a joyful celebration for all her friends, and Tiana sings "Special Spice. Not every story has conflict. Some stories are more "slice of life" stories. But I agree with Brickey that a low-conflict story is not a good match for a thrill ride.
I only discovered your channel recently, and as I have my first DL trip in 20+ years coming up, your videos have been very informative. I appreciate your take on this, simply because you're looking at it from a perspective of whether or not it's enjoyable and well-designed. Thank you.
I really appreciate your review from a design perspective. Your review is one more that is getting me excited for when Disneyland's Tiana ride opens! Thank you for taking the time for this review.
To add, I watched the Disney video they put out. My biggest complaint is I wish I could ride the Disneyland now, it looked that amazing. My second was, the final scene is too short. It really does look and sound amazing.
There is a difference between a movie being problematic and a ride being problematic. Splash didn’t have any of the problematic elements the movie did. By your logic Peter Pan and Dumbo have to go or better yet Tiana’s ride shouldn’t have been made because there’s an evil voodoo witch doctor and that’s apparently problematic too. Everyone was included in Disney World before and would have been just as included if they built a Tiana ride somewhere else in the park. Disneyland could have had this and Disney World should have gotten a brand New New Orleans Square in the beyond Big Thunder expansion.
It feels more like a forced fit. This attraction belongs as a Fantasyland dark ride, not a thrill ride. The weak story and tension are a mismatch for this type of ride system. It's too much of a happy feel in areas where tension should be building up. I have to say that the exterior of the attraction is an improvement. I love the trees. However, the color of the painted soil and rocks didn't change from Splash Mountain. Instead of the brownish red color, they should have painted the soil more like a bayou (greyish in color). Also, are there mountains in the bayou? Overall, I feel this attraction is a downgrade to what was there before
Yes I agree with you. It doesn't have the song "Friends on the other side" chanting "Are you ready" and that makes it fall flat. Disney World and Disneyland needs to improve their Princess and the Frog ride, I want Pink Flamingos included in the ride, I want to see a tombstone of Dr. Facilier to pay nod from the film. Also I want to see critters like gophers working in Tiana's garden and have Prince Naveen be with Tiana in the first section, also add 3 possums and deer and skunks to make it for lively. I want Louis to sing "When we're Human" They need to fix the drop off and have 2 rows of Pink Flamingos or cave bats chanting "Are you ready reprise?" and have Mama Odie sing along then I'll be more excited because right now. I'm disappointed with the early version of Disney World's Tiana's Bayou Adventure video preview, they need to improve it so they get more people on the ride.
I would be interested to hear why you think that the Song of the South critters were offensive to any culture or people, granted maybe the movie was perceived as such though it did happen during reconstruction and the people living on the Plantation were not slaves. How were the animals and the tales offensive?
It's interesting to me that even the people who really go to bat defending this retheme, like Brickey here, still say the ride is lacking a villain and conflict. Traditionally evil Disney villains seem more popular than ever, yet somebody within Disney seems to be against them. Even in "Wish," which was supposed to be the cinematic return of this kind of villain, they did it in a half-hearted way. LISTEN DISNEY -- WE WANT OUR DISNEY VILLAINS!!! :)
Thanks for this breakdown. It was truly enjoyable and for someone who probably won't make it out to Disney World anytime soon, it was really fun to get a preview of what Disneyland's version might look like. Love that conversation. Thanks for taking the plunge. 😉💦
It's always good to hear different opinions and viewpoints, and I'm impressed that Brickey traveled all the way to the East Coast to bring us his. 😊 While the version at the Magic Kingdom is mostly a missed opportunity, I share Brickey's enthusiasm to see what they can pull off at Disneyland.
I love it being from Nashville and I love Tiana/ New Orleans…but the only 2 things that make me tilt my head are no Dr. Facilier …..and as I say being from the south, New Orleans and all of Louisiana is flat as a pancake so the “mountain/ hill aspect” makes me tilt my head.
Brickey, YOUR REVIEW WAS SPOT ON!! I am not black and I am not from the south either and I feel the same as you. Everyone should feel welcome. Please say your review with hard conviction, BECAUSE YOU ARE 100 PERCENT RIGHT. THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you
You mentioned being from the south, and having had “problems” with Splash. What’s your opinion on the salt mines in Tiana . Are you aware of salt mining history in Louisiana?
I'm still trying to figure out how Splash was "racist". Song Of The South, clearly there were issues there. Splash was a story that Uncle Remus told to the kids. It was a positive piece of that movie. PERSONALLY, I wish they'd have given Tiana her own ride, rather than repurposing Splash. This ride will forever be compared to Splash, for those that grew up with it.
@@HeyBrickey No, I didn’t see it I’ll check it out tho. One thing I’ll add is that Splash Mountain wasn’t advertised to ONE specific race, or ppl . It was for everyone . I notice you say this ride isn’t made for you …pardon, but why? and what are you getting at ? ? It’s a water ride, it’s made for everyone..especially when it’s hot . Your remarks seem curiously agenda leaning/ driven .
Oop!! u said the animatronics aren't even as articulated as what they showed in their video..... then what is the point of them harping on and relying on that so much if they actually don't work? like wasn't that their whole draw for the ride? 🤣
Hello 👋 David here, I have been a Disneyland fan and collector for over fifty years and I have watched many of your videos and have injoyed them. I was quite surprised when you said that your not a Disney movie fan and don’t see the movies. I have always thought that that was the whole point of Disneyland was to experience the movies. If you don’t see the movies then it’s just a ride with characters you’re not familiar with going by you. Imagine seeing Mickey Mouse in the park for the first time and not seen one of his movies. It just wouldn’t be the same. Keep up the great work, Have a magical day! 😊
Thank you so much for your HONEST review. I’ve seen SO many negative reviews and you’ve helped renew my excitement about this ride when it opens at Disneyland. Thanks for all you do! 👍🏼
I agree. Its going to fit right in at DL, but sticks out a bit at DW. From what I have seen, it seems that the DL ride built more shade area's to help your eyes adjust to the dark show rooms, but the Florida version has it open. Interesting difference if true.
Brickey, you're a master mind to find all these little inside designs that most of us would miss. Your opinion is greatly appreciated, and your honesty is what makes you the class act you are. Can't wait until the next adventure. 👏👏
I enjoyed hearing your review of the story as a three act set. I appreciate that parks-first perspective. Are you able to go into more detail as to what the story is?i haven’t been able to get it from the pov videos alone.
Thanks for your honest smiles, excitement, & enthusiasm. I hadn’t quite 100% let myself imagine it at home next to the Mansion and Critter Country. How great would it be if the brought back Country Bears!!!
I haven't see any other reviews or even the POV for this ride and I'm glad I waited for your perspective! I am really excited to see that it will fit so well in DLR and can't wait to experience all those fun details myself. Big question: Did you wear the Japanese denim?!
I really enjoyed your assessment. Honestly you are the only one I trust to give a sincere review. Thank you for being honest with your audience. Because of you I will give the ride a fair chance.
Love the more balanced review. It really does look pretty and I'm happy at how well it'll fit into New Orleans x Critter Country (though Critter Country won't really exist anymore, it would just be New Orleans and Pooh Corner?). My major gripe is the story and lack of villain for a thrill ride. Also, changing into a frog is a neat idea, but.. I don't see how it fits into the story of the ride in terms of finding players for her band, if you had any thoughts on that part? :) Thanks for the review, as always!
Love this unique take as a Parks and Disneyland fan… exactly the kind of perspective I love to hear. I can see there are a few areas to improve and would have loved to see a few more hand painted signs (or on the car) like what would have existed in the time setting. A fair and fun review, appreciate you taking the dive.
Thanks for the great video. Appreciate you doing the heavy lifting for club1313. I know there have been complaints of some “dead” spaces but at DL I imagine it will feel fuller!!! Top notch work as always.
Thank you for reviewing this new attraction and sharing your thoughts on how it would fit in at Disneyland. I am looking forward to experiencing it first hand once it opens on the west coast.
I recently watched a video about Tiana’s ride, which I initially found cool until the creators started bringing up some sensitive topics and using trigger words. They critiqued the ride based on political rhetoric and it really ruined the experience for me. Thankfully, I came across your video, which provided a fair critique based on facts without delving into hyperbolic rhetoric. I appreciate that it didn't bring politics into the mix and just focused on the details of the ride. I don't understand why some people resort to disparaging others and injecting politics into their critiques. It was refreshing to find your video, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!
@@strictlyspeaking1943right? The singing animals on Splash Mountain weren’t inclusive of everyone? Tf outta here. He’s way too intelligent and nuanced to throw out a line like that. SMH
Disney is the one who started the rhetoric; they said Splash Mountain was racist (despite having no humans in it at all), and replaced it with a ride about a Black person working in a Salt Mine! 😂
Thanks for the awesome review Brickey! Very well balanced and honest. Tiana's Bayou Adventure has HUGE shoes to fill (and not just with water). Can't wait for it to open in Anaheim! Maybe I will see you there.
I agree with many of your points but I do feel this story just does not work that well. I don't like story lines in rides where the characters have to talk to explain what is going on. Even with that I feel parts of it really are not that clear without further explanation (like being shrunk down). Overall I feel this story is weak on its own and like you said is missing the villian and suspense element of Splash Mountain. The music to tie in with the story also seems to be disappointing considering they had years to come up with some really memorable music. I already forgot it. I think theming to Princess and The Frog had good potential but the story line they came up with was a big miss. This feels like a story after several ideas were floated and they needed to come up with a consensus that pleased enough Disney people.
Not sure when you got to do your preview, but it would have been awesome to meet you. We went on the 20th, the last day for AP previews. We got a little wet and loved it. Good thoughts and perspectives. We've never been to Disneyland, so we have no idea about the fit there. I'm glad you enjoyed it and took one for the team by getting soaked.
I'm watching it now and I'm halfway through. Thank you for telling us about the bottle caps, on the acorn drums that the frog is playing. And the license plate grill, Easter egg. You have an amazing eye!❤🎢🎡🏰🏞️🍳🫛🫑🥕🥔🥒🥬🥦🌽🍅🥑🐸👸🏾👑🤴🏻
Looking so forward to riding this with some of my Club 1313 friends! (I'm looking at you Amanda, Jess, David and Andy!) Thanks for the review Mark! 🌊🌊🌊
@HeyBrickey , you never fail to amaze me with your insight and knowledge of the Disney theme parks! Thank you for, by far, the best, genuine review and perspective on this ride! Keep up the great work, my friend!
@@HeyBrickey you're welcome. I'm confused why the broken heart, lol, But I truly appreciate and enjoy your channel. I've learned alot from you about the Disney theme parks. Have an awesome day!
Appreciate your review but there is something amiss. To your own admission, you reviewed Tiana’s based on how it holds up as a ride with no knowledge of the movie. It checked that box. However you didn’t take the same approach with Splash. Splash also held its own as a ride with no knowledge or understanding of the movie needed. I’m struggling to remember where Splash had any negative undertones to it. Unfortunately, the “salt mine” reference in Tiana’s cue does have undertones which was missed by imagineers. I’m still a fan Brickey, but this review felt a little off IMHO. Much love! ❤️
It is quite a bizarre video with the 'Disneyland Review' title, not having any familiarity with the IP, claiming the splash mountain critters weren't inclusive, and putting himself in the mindset of a young black girl. Felt like a discourse bingo card.
Tempered & substantiated revue, much appreciated! I’m in the camp to not compare to SPL MTN. Let the attraction stand on its own. Yes, more idyllic, however the same plunge is there. I’m still flexible enough to appreciate changes and just enjoy the ride.
I appreciate your review. You are somewhere in the middle. Not a hater, and your nose isn't completely brown from being up the mouses tush. Love your enthusiasm for Disneyland. I grew up there. I remember when they opened the Haunted Mansion. Keep up the good work. You earned your 400.00 Disney goody bag.
I love the all the bayou greenery, and it's perfect for the transition from New Orleans Square to whatever happens to critter country. Love your comments on representation. I've found that people that argue against it are ones that have always been represented. 🤷🏻♂️
Love your work Brickey but I respectfully don't agree with you on this one brother. I'll never get over the replacement of Splash Mountain with this boring reskin. To be fair, I think that "Spice" song was mildy catchy but absolutely no comparison to Zipedy doo dah that was a cornerstone of the nostalgic park VIBE I loved. I rate Tianas Bayou Adventure a solid F and only confirms my view that Disney just cant get anything right any more. #NotMyDisney
Thanks for the insight Brickey ... looking forward to the west coast version! Another logo that's fun with secret hidden bits is Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors - love how the B and the R includes the 3 and the 1!
Brickey, I have a keen interest in getting as much criticism of TBA as possible as my daughter is the Imagineer that designed Mama Ode and each Tianna. Sadly, the Orlando RU-vid vloggers have taken a VERY NEGATIVE position on the ride and your take was the 1st POSITIVE take I have seen. WDW Pro has cast such a dark cloud and it was so nice to see the Sun Shine from your take! Good Job and Keep It Up!
Love the video, cant wait for it at Disneyland, you should watch Tomorrowland though especially with your videos about that land, love how at the beginning its tons of kinetic energy and fun and cool and then at end of movie its all empty and closing down nothimg moving and dead. Very true to real life, plus tons of cool easter egg type stuff in the beginning
I don’t think you could’ve said it any better Brickey! Totally agree with your views and opinions of the attraction. I believe that Disney Imagineering will plus the ride with the years to come and address any areas where the transitions may seem a bit lacking. The first few experiences from the guest will always seem problematic because of it being a version to compare to but eventually I believe people will begin to enjoy the ride more. I feel WDI has done a good job so far and will continue to improve the ride more if possible with the advantage of them starting to incorporate newer and more up-to-date effects and systems that can open up more opportunities for them to innovate and create additions if ever planned to the ride.
This video is why I love you. I too am a Lander. I’m also at Disneyland enthusiast but the last Disney movie I watched was little mermaid when my kids were kids and my kids are your age if that tells you anything. You are the perfect fit for me as far as Disneyland vloggers.
P.S. Do you think it’s possible that you got more wet at Disney World then we will get Disneyland because it’s hotter back there? I mean yeah we get pretty toasty in August and September in the beginning of the October but they definitely have one up on us there.
You know those of us older Citizens of Disneyland remember America Sings. This is the attraction they closed and pulled all the animatronics from, and used for Splash. I was sad at first riding Splash as a kid, missing America Sings. Time marches on. It looks like imagineering did a great job. You did a great job presenting the facts and nuance of the ride.
Thanks for the coolest vlog ever. You are very right about the one at Disneyland will be better because it will blend in with New Orleans and Critter Country. Tell me did you figure out the psychedelic tunnel, I saw it in another vlog and it reminded me of the scene in Willy Wonka but it must be a spell from Mama Odie. That's what I thought. Maybe one time I'm down at Disneyland I'll get to meet you.😅
As a big fan of the original splash , this ride has a lot to make me like it. That being said, I appreciate your honest review and I can tell that'd how you really felt !
I really want to ride this but I’ve never been a fan of thrill rides or just getting wet. I get motion sickness easily and hate heights 😂 I wish this was a flat ride, I would go on it multiple times.
What's absolute madness to me is that some people claim Splash Mountain was never a thrill ride! Thank you, Brickey, for acknowledging what kind of ride system this (obviously) is.
Thanks for the review. Love to hear your opinion. Without riding it, my thought is that it needed a better story with a villain and more suspense. Other than that, the theming kooks beautiful.
Great review! I love that you look at it from a "parks" perspective.......I get that story telling is important, but question, what's the story behind Space Mountain? There is none and yet, it's the most beloved ride in all of the parks. Sometimes just the ride itself is enough.
Regarding camera presence…You look and present great with sunglasses 😎 However, allowing us to see your “eyes smile” is fantastic. Again, you look sharp either way…but more without sunglasses please 🙏🏼 Awesome info and content as always!
Once TB goes live in DL, I think it will be quite some time before I ride it. Not just because of it being different theming, thinking that it will be absolutely packed for some time. Im just hoping that HM and PC will have been opened before or shortly after the grand opening of TB so that the western side will have its Magic back
Just wish they would've incorporated the villain somehow. That could've made it pretty epic. But all in all it will fit pretty perfectly in Disneyland. But RIP Splash Mountain. Amazing run.
Prince and the Frog has some solid tracks, and it was great to hear sections of them in the ride footage. I do agree that Dr. Facilier would have been a great addition to this ride, "Are You Ready" or "Friends on the Other Side" would have been near perfect for a drop section.
Thanks for the great video, Brickey. This was good for me to see. My initial thoughts were that Disney really screwed the pooch on this one, but after hearing your perspective I want to give it a fair chance when it comes to Anaheim. Thank you!
Water drop rides aren't my thing either (except my fav Pirates technically kinda falls in that category) but I look forward to trying it at DL. I agree... it will fit perfectly between NOS and CC.
Thank you for sacrificing for us and doing this review. I too am not a person that likes to get wet, but I respect your reviews and opinions. Looking forward to getting it in Disneyland.
