In order for someone to break the record, they’d need to LeBron and more. They’d need to: -Be drafted out of high school at 17 -Drafted to a team without a star already on it -Be a star the moment they step in to the league -Freakishly athletic and skilled -Remain virtually injury free -Have the willingness to evolve their game and work on their weaknesses -Be able to score efficiently from anywhere on the court, in any way

If LeBron really does play 2-3 more years, that should put him well over 40,000. Every record is made to be broken, but it may take just as long if not longer than Kareem's 30+ year run as the leadings scorer.

I think the part that people are missing is the fact lebron is like 5th all time ppg. So not only do you have to stay unrealistically healthy, but you have to average 27 while doing it

It took 40 years for Kareem’s record to be broken! And LeBron was iron man for 15+ years and barely missed time (until he hit old age). You think these new school players who prioritize load management will break that record? Keep in mind LeBron just finished year 20 and is still playing! @@steel148 that’s why i think it’s gonna be a kid from a whole different generation than what we’re seeing now cause these current guys and the younger middle school and teenage guys they’re mentoring don’t wanna play that long. Record won’t be broken and if it does it will be 50-100+ years down the line. 1. He’s not done playing so he can push the record to 45k. 2. Season might be shortened from 82 games within the next decade. 3. Injury free career + near 30PPG average through 20 years + mindset to play that long. And if Lebron hadn’t gotten hurt the last couple years he woulda passed kareem a year or 2 earlier

There's going to be a superstar eventually who's entire game revolves around volume scoring and nothing else, just constantly averaging the most shot attempts per season and trying to keep a career average of 35ppg. We all have to remember the record is still "On going". If Lebron crosses the 42k Point, that record will not be broken in our lifetime! Presently, not one player is on pace and closest to it is Luka whom has to go atleast 15 more seasons in a row without injury scoring at least 27ppg ! Wish him luck with that....

Someone will have to average 28 a game for like 22 seasons at this point... hahaha. Bron basically hit every major scoring mark at the youngest age... Unless he has a career ending injury he'll go over 40k in points. I'll be surprised if he doesn't average 25 again next season.. now the only question is the number of games he'll play each season. Crazy to think how many points he has when you combine career regular season and career postseason. That number will probably never be touched

I can see a young player to come through and score 30-35ppg for a career and play 20 seasons but I doubt many players will play 70+ games for 20 seasons. Injuries, rest, the way the game and health safety is changing.

The way it's going now, maybe another 25-30yrs but who knows. A Wembanyama skilled, Jokic vision, Curry shooting 7'5 monster might come along and dominate. Anyway, the improvement of sports science, drugs (peds/medicines), the right genetics, economy (less family issues - more kids focused on sports and hard work focused on sports only instead of wasting time on family issues/poverty issues), the right tools and templates swt by predecessors, all those will help improve scouting the right players and we'll see better athletes and it might just take a bit less than 20 years for the next player to do it.

Lebron's record is going to be very very hard to beat. Load Management is so scientific these days. Players just dont play 82 games anymore. I thought Durant was going to outscore Lebron until he had the achilles injury, but it will take a guy like that, that can stay healthy till he's 40.

this "who's gonna be healthy for that long" take is just Ludacris....health is just one important aspect, but health alone will not give a player to break this incredible record. You gotta be DOMINANT for 2 decades as a player and perform on a very high level to have a chance to even come close to breaking it. Vince Carter, Parish, they were healthy to extend their careers into their 40s. yet they were nowhere close to their prime self in the last 6-8 years of their career....someone can play 23 seasons in the NBA and not even be in the Top 25-50 in scoring. Lebron's 1 of 1 ability is that he is still a top 5 player even in his 20th season and his production has not dipped a single bit, only his athleticism. GOAT

Tbh I can see it… this is how, they come into the league 17-19, they already at a superstar level, they able to stay healthy for the for the next 20 years while averaging near 30 (and that’s the current record of Kareem, by the time LeBron is done. It’s going be well at 42k.) so that means they have to do it for a nearly more 5 years. That’d make that person near 47.

Everybody always talks about records being unbreakable. It's simply not true. Every record is breakable and will eventually be broken. Let's see whether it takes 10-20 years or 20-50+ years until Lebron's record is broken.

50ppg, 48.5mpg or 27rpg for a season will be broken? There are unbreakable records and if LeBron plays at least 3 more seasons while setting the record beyond 42k it will be one of them. To score 42k points you need 1400 games of 30ppg which is about 17 seasons or 1680 games of 25ppg (20.5 seasons with 0 missed games).

Not only do you have to get in young, maintain an unreal health status, show up to every game and not get injured....you also have to have the build and iq that he has, and the ability to contribute to any team in anyway imaginable. Who knows Bryce might turn out to be better than bronny and may force Lebron to play til he's 45. If that happens. That record might last a century.

Nobody will ever brake Lebron's scoring record. That won't happen. I know that many people thought the same about Kareem, but honestly for me that Kareem's record never seemed unbroken because a guy averaged below 25 points in his career, I knew that some time there would be a giy who would be able to play 20+ seasons while averaging at least 25 points. But this Lebron's record when he finishes his career???? Nah man, there is no world where it is possible to happen. Maybe someone would brake his record right now, BUT HE WILL PLAY 30+ MORE GAMES THIS SEASON PROBABLY AND HE WILL ALSO PLAY THE NEXT SEASON. I don't think there would be human on Earth who will ever challenge that.
