If I had a 9kw generator I could weld anything. However I am like you trying with a 2kw generator. This is a sweetspot for videos about arc welding. You show and I proved it as well that a 2 kw generator for welding is not such a great idea. Why not repeat this video with 2 of these Hondas linked together to see if you get better results or even 1 4kw since you have several of these generators. Please consider it as I am thinking of buying a second generator for this purpose but waiting to find someone who has the setup to run the experiment.. Thanks!
How are you powering the air compressor? I have a Hobart Handler 100amp flux core welder ( non gas ) that i'm able to power with a Honda 2000 generator but I don't know what I need to power a plasma cutter off of a Honda 2000. Maybe 2 Honda 2000 ? One powering a air compressor and a different one powering a small plasma cutter?
My 200 amp arc welder loaded my 5 kW 3 phase diesel generator to about 80%. Yes, welder is 3 phase. Powered by a PTO powered Lima MAC 12 kW, it barely kicks the governor. Now a 50 amp 240 volt plasma torch loads the 12 kW only because torch is single phase. Cutting 3/8" thick stainless. Running inverter machines off inverter generators sounds sketchy. Less than slip ring rotor generators.
Why not try lower amperage ? You do realize most of this welders run at 60V therefore at 55 amps it would be consuming around 3.3 KWh and your small honda is only 2000W. In theory it should work with smaller sticks at 30Amps. Try that next.
Copy that! My goal here was to know if I had to go do a field weld or cut, no matter how thick the metal, what generator should I take. Could likely make the 2000 work if I had to like you said.
You may not know, Honda EU 300 and smaller generators are 120 volt only. The point of this video was to see if it would work with a generator many people own and is small enough for one person to load in the trunk or truck and go weld or cut. As an Electrician for 35 years, I understand what your saying. This is for a breakdown on the trail or freeway.
Not sure I understand your question but.. Honda is always the best Generator. The plasma cutter/welder that I have was the cheapest one I could find. If I were making a living with my welder / plasma cutter, it should be the best one you can afford.
@@GlennsSpeedShop Will a HONDA EB2800IAN/2800 watt , 3.6 horsepower generator Putting out 20 amps each for 4 120V Question is will this run a 120V, 20 amp Lincoln 140 FLUX CORE WIRE FEED MIG WELDER Outlits
You did not watch the video to the end. It works fine on my EU3000I Honda generator and would also work fine with 2 X EU2000I gens in parellel. Thanks!
