I wholeheartedly 2nd THIS. I’m a seasoned rider (36 years riding exp) and I recently switched to Road 6’s on my 2019 Super Duke. It literally revolutionized the riding experience. Crackin’ tyre. Also, check out anecdotal reports of the longevity of these… some are reporting averages of 8-12K miles.

@@DookeyRidrAnd I wholeheartedly 3rd it, just got a second set on my GS. Got 8k out of my last set and they still had a bit of life in them but off to Germany and I think yo need 1.6mm - the back was on that in the middle. Fab tyres

Lovely little extra video, on what is very quickly becoming my new favourite bike. Just love the burbling sound from the exhaust, which is audible enough on your videos. Also pleased to hear that you still go on trips/rides just for yourself too. As much as I enjoy your filming, you need to relax and have some 'you' time.

Tyres change shape as they wear on bikes, so yes - new tyres can make a huge difference to feel even if not in outright grip. I usually change because a flat or step has formed even though tread is still relatively good

I suggest you visit a suspension specialist. I had just started track days on my Ducati Monster S2R1000, and quickly realized I needed new tires. So I had a pair of top Pirellis fitted and it made a huge difference, a very big improvement. Then I went to the racers favorite suspension tuner, who fitted "gold valves" and new springs to the fork, and new springs to the rear shock. That was a revelation - and at least as big an improvement as the tires had been the week before. I could drop down inside other riders all over the track. On road riding did get stiffer, by maybe a third. But, I had been looking for track performance. The tuner can set you up with smooth handling with the correct sag for better handling. Go to the specialist.

Good choice Andy. I am just about to fit my 7th set. The GS eats tyres so I have my local tyre fitter on speed dial. I also put a pair on my Thruxton and they are a better all round tyre for it than the OEM tyres that did not like the wet.

Love your vlog ….Ha very interesting !! I’ve got a 2020 speed twin had Rosso 3 s on mine too and just changed to road 6 at 4250 miles what an amazing difference The issue with the old tyres was the bike just didn’t want to turn in on corners ( it never used to Be like this ) I am sure after 4 years they go a bit hard and combined with wear feathering on the front plus a slight step!! Plus a slight flat on the back one I was beginning to think it was a suspension issue I love my Triumph it’s a keep bike … just sold my Ducati Multistrada V2S after 2 years 6750 miles loved it but replaced it with new S1000XR I have only done 100 miles on it just an amazing bike to ride keep up the good work hope the shoulder gets better soon , Ash

I binned those Michelins on my Zed and went for Pirelli MT60 pretend-knobbly. Relevant, because like you say, tyres can alter a bike. My Zed is a million times better now, and I certainly don't tip-toe as much in the wet. I don't go fast enough to get them too hot, plus the roads where I live are shite. They felt really skatey to me. My mate Pad has a Speed Twin with loud pipes on. Sounds ace. I test rode one before getting my Scrambler 1200, but it felt too small at the time, hence the Scrambler. Keep up the good work. :)

Metzeler tourance are also really good pretend off-road tyres. Really sticky and displace loads of water when it's wet. Cope with fire roads and sand well but wouldn't fancy my chances in mud 😅

I fitted Road 6's to my Triumph Speed Twin two months ago, 3,000 miles later they have transformed the bike. Where previously when fitted with the OEM Metzeler Racetec RR K3's the ride was harsh and uncomfortable, also scary in the wet, it is now far more comfortable and the Road 6's give great confidence on all roads in all conditions. I also have the Road 6's on a BMW R1250GS and longevity is supurb; they have covered 10,000 miles mostly touring with pillion and luggage and the front tyre still has 2mm and the rear the best part of 5mm remaining. Enjoy the new tyres.

@TheScortUK

The Road 6 has a much smoother steering feel imo, but if coming from something that tips easily, they do initially feel like they're flat/riding through a ditch. Found this exact feeling when I went from M9RRs to the Road 6 on my S1000R - but a few rides and I was dialed in. Love the Road 6 though, they are imo the best road tyre in the went - I've been able to apply the same hard braking on a set of M50s in the wet, as in the dry

New tires are often about as good as a suspension upgrade. New rubber absorbs quite a bit of the unpleasant vibrations you feel throughout the bike. I too have the same bike and color. I installed Nitron upgrades both front and rear. Huge improvement on the front, less improvement on the rear. No more exaggerated brake dive. Highly recommended. Installation of the new front cartridges was challenging though because removing the old ones was very difficult.

When I test rode a Speed Twin the OEM tyres were great and showed off the bike’s handling potential….but realistically they were far racier than the bike’s likely real-world use required. It’s a trait I’ve noticed with other Triumph models too = fitted with sports tyres that in time will inevitably be replaced with sports touring tyres!

After watching this today you have confirmed the Michelins will be my next tyres on my SpeedTwin. Hope you get some positive news on where they are going with the shoulder.

I think 5 years is about it for Moto tires, I just bought a used 2017 GS Adventure with 7000 miles on it but the tires themselves were 7 years old. They looked alright tread wise but the age on them made me change immediately (especially given I bought the bike to bring my wife on rides, the super duke doesn't quite cut it:)) Enjoy your new tires, new tire day is always one of my favorite for any machine.

Andy, obviously mine is a personal one. But I have only used Michelin for years.. From the Road 4 to the current 6.. Fantastic tyre..

Rubber compounds get harder as they age. Fresh tires make a world of difference in handling. I seen in comments one person says he installed brand new 10 year old tires. Whoever sold you those should not be in the tire business as they should have been removed from inventory at least 5 years earlier.

Best money I have ever spent in 30 years is rebuild suspension and good tyres that work for where you ride not how ride.

Good idea to upgrade your suspension, I heard that progressive springs are very good, Road 6 good choice 👍🏍️. My shoulder is still painful, just bought a DNA filter for my Classic 350 , did about 60 miles yesterday , went to a bikers cafe just outside Bridgenorth great bunch they encouraged me as that’s was the furthest I had ridden . Also fitted a heel and toe gear changer, a lot better changing gear. Something I find hard is the weight of the gear I wear, it’s so heavy lol.

Currently riding the Picos de Europa on a Speed Twin fitted with Road 6s - highly recommend. Apart from the range, a great bike for touring - so much easier on the tight hairpins than the GS.

Riding in the dry on road most tyres will work well, when it’s wet tread pattern and hardness of rubber make a difference. Should say I’m yet to find a tyre that cope with white lines or road paint in the wet yet.

Andy - might be worth calling in to K-tech to see what kind of suspension upgrades they can provide.

I went 10K miles and 8 years on my BMW C650 Sport's first set of tires. 8-10 years should be fine (unless they wear out before of course)

In relation, I just put new tyres, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's, on my SV1000 which has always handled like a wheelbarrow full of poop. Totally transformed it, like a new bike now.

I've been fitting Diablo Rosso 2s then 3s on my Street Triple 675. I've recently reverted back to 2s...however new tyres are a joy are they not... like you observed the difference is noticable immediately, especially if the old tyres have developed a flat area...

In my case, I bought TKC70s thinking on-road performance would suffer compared to the Pirelli Phantom Comps I had before, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the Contis were better both on and off-road. In my case, it was definitely not in my head!

Thanks, Andy, for sharing this with us. I have a question for the group out there. What kind of milage are you getting out of the Road 6s. I have a friend who always runs Michelin tires. He loved the Road 5s for their performance in the wet, but he said they tend to wear fast when the weather warms up. He was commuting year-round (in the Pacific Northwest) on a Ninja 1000. And yes, I do realize tire wear has a lot to do with motorcycle there mounted on and how its ridden. So, the real question is for those who ran Road 5s and switched to Road 6s, are you seeing an improvement in the milage. Thanks
