I am 78 years old and I have found my MT09 acceptable comfort wise. Before I put my touring windshield on it wasn’t acceptable comfort wise. I was truly impressed by the change a little odd shaped windshield made. I am able to go 2 to 3 hundred miles before lunch and another 2 to 3 after lunch. I get started early in the summer around 5:30 AM while it’s still cool. I have two tanks burned by 11:30 and do a light lunch with plenty of liquid intake. Sight see and lay about for a couple hours. Burn another tank walk around some with a snack along the way. Make hotel reservations and burn last tank for the day. I can do this for 3 days before I have to ease up. Works out as I can get most everywhere I go in 2 days.
Maybe nailed it's coffin. This redesign is horrible, they've made it look like a generic naked like a cb300r or one of those Chinese scooters. The MT-09 was best when it had a pseudo-supermoto look with the wide flat seat. This is awful and people who like this redesign must have had some kind of lobotomy.
Great extended review - thank you for sharing! I just bought a 2024 MT-09 a week ago. I love it so far. I am still learning about it and getting the settings where I want them. I do agree on the turn indicator switch. I am still trying to get used to that one!
Picking mine up this morning followed by a busy few days running it in so this review perfect timing for me! It's even sunny the next few days for a change so off around the Yorkshire Dales, up to Tan Hill and through the Lake District for me before the first service on Wednesday! Btw on touring you can get a rack and back box, panniers and comfort seats as well as a screen and handguards along with heated grips. I was offered a great deal so got the lot! I think it offers much better value than the street triples. Triumph never seem to knock anything off the price and their servicing is way more expensive as I found out with my last bike, a tiger 900 gt (which this bike is WAY MORE FUN THAN). 😊
The CP3 is an great engine and Yamaha supply it in various flavours to suit your taste. The XSR900GP was one of the best looking releases of 2024 and there’s still the much anticipated R9 on the horizon
LED is such a patchy regression from the even spread of halogen IMO. Not to mention getting blinded by oncoming cars on auto-switch that take three working days to get to low beam.
The exhaust without an end can along one side is apparenly a divisive factor. I absolutely love that my Tracer 900 doesn't have an ugly exhaust along one side getting in the way of my luggage. Looks much cleaner without it. Thanks for the review.
Great summary of the bike Mr Fly! It seems like a great bike, the looks are growing on me a bit but I would love to see some brighter and more colourful options offered. It always beats me why right angled valves aren't used as standard fitment as they are far more practical. They would cost pennies more but if they added it to the price of the bike, nobody would notice or quibble if they did.
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks for always acknowledging and replying to my posts, I do appreciate it! Have a good week and hope to chat with you at ABR next weekend 👍
I have owned a 2023 for 18 months now. On country roads at night the headlights are not sufficient. I have to keep hi beams on permanently to see far enough ahead to go 55-65 mph. The turn radius is wide. But, most importantly, I never see another bike and wish I had bought something else. I love my MT09 and put Shad side cases and a windscreen on for touring.
Sorry for repeating myself but I have a 65 plate Tracer 900 and I absolutely love it. I think the only bike I would change it for would be the XSR 900lc,either in the mars bar or Yamaha blue colour scheme..Great video by the way.
Nice review and lovely bike, now all Yamaha has to do is put that awesome CP3 engine into a Tenere T9 Adventure bike and Triumph will be having Kittens!
Excellent review & brilliant practical information as is to be expected with you, thank you. My goto youtubers for reviews are always yourself, Lambchop & Usernamekate, always superb to watch TMF.
I like your new format of reviewing motorcycles with practical categories and pros/cons. They allow your content to be very interesting and exciting to watch. Thank you! Nice job.
Good bid great bike. Seeing there may be a Tenere version. May not be for me but others. A tripple, what's not to like. Live a 120 degree crank and smooth seemless power. Good looking as well. We will adapt to the lights. NOTE: The GS Giants version of the BMW 1300 GS loks crackin' with light protector over the X led headlight. Just shown yesterday for Namibia contest. You need to go there and tour. Extremely diverse riding
I started riding Yamaha tripples in 1976 with the XS 750 C. Great bike for it's time. It really was competition for BMW in some ways. Put a lot of miles on it. Previously had the XS 500 C twin with 8 valves DOHC 180 degree crank and the dud bike of all time a 1974 TX 750 SOHC dry sump 360 degree crank. And a mile of vhain driving the counterbalancers . On introduction in Australia 19 units blew up on the first test rides, it only got worse.
I Love Yamaha, I've owned three of their motorcycles, one amazing snowmobile, and I have two of their current Revstar guitars... but sometimes I wonder what they're thinking with the colors of their naked bikes. Those rims are just horrible looking, IMO. The wheels on my 24' T7 are a freaking gorgeous blue. Would I own an MT-09 of course! But I'd be taking it to a shop to get those wheels painted. Flyer, I've never owned a motorcycle with anything but the straight valve stems, other than the KTM off-center valve placement, are there any negatives to a 45 degree valve stem? Do they damage easier, wind noise, etc...? Because you're right it would be much easier to air tires on modern bikes if they had an angle but I always assumed there was some negative point other than a few pennies as to why manufacturers don't use them as OEM.
well infact Bridgestone makes its motorcycle tires exclusivly in japan, and the batlax as such are there sport-touring version wich are excellent in the wet. i would say probably the best tires that you can have fitted, i´m suprised to see them on an of the shelf bike
How does it compare with your Z900RS SE? The two bikes are really catering to different demographics but which would you prefer on a daily basis? What about MT-09 vs Speed Triple RS?
I wonder if the headlight have the same pattern as the CB650R? A thin beam across the road on dip. Fine when going straight. But in corners, the pattern was still a beam (surprise!) but that made it lit up the ditch and top of the trees. Nothing on the road ahead! That was scary! There is something about the MT09...I do want to like it, but I struggle. And every time I test one, I walk away thinking "why all the hype?" And let's be honest, everythig is built to a price. But using tape on wires is not to save money. It must take ages to do! Thank you mr Flyer!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes. And that bit looked like the same pattern to me. When you leaned the bike that "beam" looked like one end in the ditch and the other in the treetops. It some how makes a dark spot. Imagin going in a right turn, the right side ditch is illuminated and the left hand side trees are aswell. But in the far right, the spot where one needs to look for incoming traffic, that's dark. Makes sense? That's my experience with the CB650R I had. Scary!
The whole connectivity thing on bikes seems a bit of a nightmare. It's a great idea in theory but never seems to work all that well in practice it appears, I know the Goldwing has these problems too. Personally I've never owned a bike with even an LED screen, fuel gauge or radiator, so it's all a bit above me, but the manufacturers need to get working on the software a bit more now as they seem to have pretty much perfected the hardware side of things.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Last gen was lighter with the same engine, making it a better overall performer. Its tech was great as well, not needing more. Who cares about cruise control on a bike like this? Maybe I’m just too old school. And the headlight looks like a cheap AliExpress cover that was thrown on there. The tank lines are also terrible now. Technically a great bike, but a styling disaster
Great video. I agree about the connectivity. I have faffed about for ages and can't get my android phone to connect despite having the bike manual. 🤣 I love the bike. I've had mine for 8 weeks and done about 800 miles. I really appreciate the quickshifter. Bloody lovely....but, my clutched gear changes are very clunky. Any advice from anyone to improve my clutch gear changes? (never had an issue on my SV650)
Hey TMF! I have a question. Between this MT09 2024 & the current XSR900 (not the GP), which one has more aggressive ergonomic riding position? Or which is more relaxed? Up right position or more relaxed position is very important to know for me. Thank you.
Great review as ever TMF & i agree with you about the TFT way to small especially as the actual size of it it could be actually an awesome TFT + The exhaust absolutely hideous & I'm not i lover of the colour scheme the wheels are awesome but not a fan of the colours that are available!!😬 Hope you get the SP version for a Comparison that would be very interesting!! Great job TMF!!👌🏻👍🏻
@TheMissendenFlyer WOW really seriously can't wait for that as im im two minds weather to go for the Z900RS or the MT09SP as at the moment ive got a 2019 Street Triple RS!! So this will be very interesting!! All the best Dave...👍🏻😎
The train station has a height restriction on the entry but absolutely nothing in there (that I saw) that would ever pose a problem? I really like the MT09, good review...
@TheMissendenFlyer Im looking at this and the SP. I saw someone who traded their base 24 in for SP for the suspension alone. Can you give me your advice on the suspension of base vs SP. I think that only the rear mono is difference. Thanks.
Hey friend, looking into getting a 2024 SP.. Was curious your height and if you can effectively touch the ground with both feet! I'm 5'8 with an average inseam.
@@TheMissendenFlyer That’s great! Funny enough it’s my first bike other than on dirt.. excited with all the rider assist and settings so I can slowly tame the beast lol
When ive seen this bike in the local dealer it looks massive... in your intro , when you're leaning on the bike, you make it look like a toy? Have you got taller? 😂
Sounds like a great bike, no longer my cup of tea, I just sold my Suzuki gsx8s, another lovely motorcycle. It's funny how tastes change, I'm so much happier since I bought an ADV bike, but once upon a time I never would have dreamt of doing so.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ended up with a Transalp after considering the t7, DE800 and Tuareg. Tuareg and T7 are more off road capable than I need and the Transalp cost less than the DE and seemed to fit the bill pretty well. I think either of these 4 bikes would have been fine.
Yes it's more fun and more of a hoooligan I'd say - but marginal. I prefer the looks of the Triumph. I bought the Kawa so obvs I'd rather have that (or I'd have bought one of these!)....
Don’t like the wheel colour. Wouldn’t swap my f900r for it, even though I do like the triple, but It’s not all about horsepower. My beemer has a straight valve - in the spoke…!😂😂
Looks a bit budget, as far as motorway work, I know 70 mph is the speed limit but in the real world how goes along at 70mph always he should try to along at 90mph + just to to see how bad naked bikes are at that speed after all it’s a 110bhp machine and what about touring ?in future should always 🎉 about luggage capability on all road tests
If you want to see a bike's real 'face' then take a picture of it and turn it upside down. This has been a thing since I conspired with Tamburini to incept the 916. Inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer as 'catwoman' with her head over the edge of the bed, take a look ;') ...
Touring will be no problem on this bike you might want to re address that. Yamaha do loads of touring kit including a rear top box bracket and up to a 50 litre top box like the Givi luggage. As for the seat yamah comfort seats are great the comfort seat on my MT10 SP is really comfy just that would deffo be worth buying
@@Carvetii”not an issue for touring “ ? ? what do you do when the places that sell fuel are 300 -450 kilometres apart ? I don’t want to fill up every 200 kilometres, because the next town is 150 kilometres away. The cost of fuel in remote Australia can be 60-80% higher than the cost in the big cities. And that is already way overpriced due to the games that America and the Middle East are playing. American fuel is subsidised. In Australia we pay $1.50 USD for one litre in the city. $1.80 USD OR MORE in the country. Putting another 5 to 10 litres in the tank 4 times in one day is a waste of time and money. 18-23 litre tanks are the bottom end of what I would call a touring motorcycle. 14 litres is a joke IMHO Range (< 300 k’s ?) Range anxiety is not an issue when there are many towns close together.
Morning Mr flyer! I know you've mentioned your riding jeans in previous videos but I've totally forgotten 😂what are they and are they stretchy? Cheers Lee
