Sustainable living is for everyone and it is important that eco-friendly products are made with diversity in mind. To be honest, I love these sunglasses and I think that if they fit you and you need sunglasses, they are an excellent choice. If you want to give them a try, use the code WMCOCO to get 15% off.

I was planning to buy from them but seeing your review, it looks like I will hold off. Thank you so much for making this review. I would also love to have a pair of compostable sunglasses but it would be better to hold off and wait until more suitable designs come out.

Glad it was helpful. I am optimistic that more designs will come out.

Wow! Amazing! I did not know about this compostable 👓 before!! I also find it very difficult to find suitable glasses for my face! I really need some at the moment too. I had ones bought from Japan and they were perfect for my face. Good and comfy too. Used them for around 5 years.. However, after loosing them I did not find other good ones. But thank you for sharing this, now I know how to look and my face shape and features! Maybe this is why I did not find suitable 👓 for me! Hope you will find your perfect ones too! Have a lovely day! ☺️

Yeah it could be! You also have high cheekbones as well. I hope you can find some that you like too! I'm not surprised you found ones you like in Japan. I heard that styles there are better designed for people with these facial features.

@@CocoShin really? So I also have high cheekbones. I kept staring in the mirror and I was wondering if I have or not. Actually in Japan people were always asking me if I am half Japanese. Maybe cause of my facial shape. Not sure. Thank you! 🤍 If I could only remember that brand’s name.. maybe I could reorder them online! 💚 If not, new sunglasses will appear for sure at the right time!

@@MANUchan Yeah, maybe they thought you were mixed because of your high cheekbones! That's interesting!

SUch a good question! I'm very particular about sunnies so I'm scared to try them haha. But for real I've owned WAY too many sunnies in my day so after my thrifted ones crap out I'm headed toward compostable ones! Maybe I should make a video trying to compost them ;) Also, loveeee your back drop and this lighting omg!! I honestly had no idea that sunglasses couldn't be all-inclusive so I learned a lot about anatomy and inclusivity so thank you for educating us but so sorry this was frustrating!

Thanks! I think it’s a problem that one only really knows about if they personally experience it, so I’m glad I was able to create some awareness. I think I am actually going to try composting one of these since they didn’t work for me, so we will see how it turns out! If you make a video too, it would be fun to compare. 😃 Also, thanks for the kind words about the lighting and backdrop! It’s still a work in progress, but I’m really trying to make my zero waste space also a visually inspiring place. (It’s pretty much all second hand.)

This is the same for Native American and Latinx faces (I am both, and also mixed white!). I really appreciated this video since I never considered why I can *never* find sunglasses that fit my face. Thank you for the great description!

@@CocoShin I just got some Sunskis in the mail today, and they're 100% recycled materials. They fit really well on my high cheekbones! Worth a try.

So cool that these are 100% compostable!! That's amazing. My struggle with glasses and sunglasses is that my eyes protrude a bit, so most of them are uncomfortably close to my eyelashes. Inclusivity is absolutely essential in these brands, and it seems that slowly but surely, they are catching up to reality! So sad that these didn't fit though😭I wonder if you can make these prescription?
@CocoShin
@CocoShin 3 года назад
I bet you can fit them with prescription lenses, but they wouldn’t be fully compostable anymore. That being said, it’s way better to have a partially compostable pair of sunglasses than a totally plastic pair! That’s interesting that you have issues with glasses fitting too! I think inclusive designs are right around the corner. We just have to keep talking about it!

@@CocoShin That's so true, I didn't think about that! Yeah I agree, maybe we'll just have to start our own sustainable glasses company😝🤓😎

Was thinking to get these to wear at work - the clear lenses Silly question I may have missed, are they just clear with the filters built into them or is it only suited for those who need reading glasses or have trouble seeing? 😁
@CocoShin
@CocoShin 3 года назад
I think they are clear with blue light filters on them, but you'd have to go to your eye doctor to fit them with prescription lenses.

Just adding my +1 to your experience. I am of Asian descent, but I still fall under the 'caucasian' type as my ethnicity is mixed. I have always had the exact same problem as you. My cheekbones are high, I have flesh on my cheeks, but my nose bridge is lower in comparison. From a profile view, I feel my face is 'too voluminous' compared to other Occidental people. Whatever pair of glasses I try, they always end up moving if I start speaking, laughing or smiling. What changes though, is that I have never connected it to being Asian features. Always thought that it was my personal weird face shape. The fact it might be indeed not just a matter of having 'an oddly weird face shape' but be common to more Asian people definitely highlights some flaws in the way brands design.

Yep, you hit the nail right on the head. The sad part is that when every company is leaving people like us out when they are designing, it makes us feel like we are not normal, wierd, or even unattractive. It's just not true though. The standards are just way too narrow.

I suggest looking into Covry eyewear. Although I haven't tried this brand Covry claims to make eyewear for Asians in mind as the brand was founded by Asian women. Although it isn't compostable.

That's a good tip, but at this point, I wouldn't consider sunglasses that aren't compostable or at least recyclable. I guess I'll just keep using the ones I already had until a new compostable style comes out that will fit me!

Make sure you post a review and maybe write an e-mail to them with some feedback on how they could change them to fit more people- especially people of colour. Maybe at the very least two options in each style that has a different angle (like angled forward/out for those with higher cheekbones and angled in the way they’re already made)? Blue Planet Eyewear has quite a few options and they’re made from bamboo or recycled plastic depending on the style.
