I use plumbers mait in-between 1" steel nipples and connections, in the grease trap industry for professional kitchens. It's better than PTFE as sometimes I need to back off the thread a bit. Great tips. Thanks for vid.

Hi Al. That was a first class presentation, I used to be an area salesman for that company for 32 years and I covered Devon for a few years, now drawing my pension. Not a great seller but all the merchants stocked it. Glad you remembered the song. I always look out for you I have a static caravan in Devon.

I know alot of plummers use silicone. But I use plummers mate for basin wastes. Never failed me. Also easy to replace if needed 👌

Yep tried this too, I don’t know if it’s the water pressure or water temperature that makes it slightly harder and it does stop small leaks for years, highly recommended 👍🏻

I used it to seal the connection from the cistern to the back of WC pan. Worked a treat. Much better join than when it was fitted and cheap option too!

i use plumbers mait on my DIY E-bike , i put it all around the axle of the wheel motor where the cable goes in to stop water ingress , its a good waterproof putty basically

Loads of basins etc using this stuff.unfortunately some people never rolled it enough and their sausage was too stiff,ooh matron,resulting in the wastes leaking when the hot water getting to it,then some idiot decided silicone was better.unless you have to remove the waste later.sometimes the old ways were better.good info on here

I used it to repair a crack in an old high-level plastic cistern 12 years ago. It's still there and the leak hasn't come back! I think that might be because it's permanently below the water line though, so it doesn't dry out.

I ust used a large amount of this stuff on my bath, because despite following best practice for applying silicone sealant, it was still leaking! My cousin was also used as added weight, he sat in warm water for me whilst I shoved plumbers mait in to the join behind where I applied silicone sealant all along the bath Moment of truth today, when I take a shower

With silicone you need to wait atleast an hour before testing for leak. But with plumbers mait you can check it straight away and is also easy to clean. This is why I prefer plumbers mait over silicone.

Hi, I have a leaking shower waste. Water getting under the waste flange. Would this be any good under the waste flange on the shower tray top? However the waste is plastic so just wondering if this would work? Thanks

@dereton33 fantastic. Thanks for getting back to me. The plumber who fitted it used silicone, but everywhere! In the thread, under flange, on the rubber seal ring. It was a mess, all brown mouldy and very wet and it had failed badly. Caused a lot of damage to the wood joists. I put a new one on, but it's leaking, possibly an imperfection on the tray waste hole. Will try plumbers mait. Thanks again much appreciated.

Hi there i have an old style toilet, Fordham Elan, about 1988 vintage, and have a leak at bottom of tank, their is adownpipe with round platic nut and above that big plastic hexigan nut, it appears to be leaking around there, i assume i have to take the syphon out and change the rubber seal at the bottom, its 2" as far as i can tell, with some plumbers mait...from Fred in Essex Uk

@@dereton33 Cheers, i think its Ron?, would you just clean the surfaces and put the bottom seal in dry, or put some plumbers mate or grease or some thing on it, and i presume at the pan end of the pipe the big white cone thing is the only seal, nothing inside Fred

It amazes me in this day that plumbing stuff like plug holes, radiator valves, still needs loads of additional sealant or PTFE round so they don't leak you should just be able to screw it in job done.

@@CallumAtwal well not sure if am honest I only ever do DIY plumbing but when I have put radiators on some say 7 times round with PTFE some say 14 ,others say use locktite. Should be ready to install with nothing I think.

@@JR-1983 yep same I only do DIY. radiators are the biggest culprit ive seen. The rads from Screwfix require so much PTFE to make a seal it's unreal

Hi, great videos! The underside of the drain hole on my new bath is uneven and leaking when testing. Can I use plumbers mait here, as it will be under pressure when the bath drains from full? Many thanks

I am stuck. I have a pinhole leak coming from the end of a half-inch pipe that was cut and crimped years ago.It is still attached to the central heating system in the cellar but cannot be turned off. This active leak drips every minute or so. There is very little length of the pipe to get a valve on it. Can you PLEASE suggest a method to seal this leak. It is driving me crazy.

Can you get back to a compression fitting then you could remove the pipe and fit a cap on the fitting. You will have to drain down though.

I have used it on waste fittings BUT it shouldnt be needed if the seals are ok.Having said that what plumber would be a plumber if he didnt stink of the stuff?Answer...A bad plumber.

Any idea why a Baxi Bermuda boiler keeps locking out? I can't find a plumber to look at it as they say it's obsolete. Resetting doesn't help.

Baxi Bermuda is a simple backboiler and unless it's on a sealed system there is no reset.

On reflexion, if it's one of the last variants with electronic ignition then poor pilot fllame/ flame supervision most common issues. Pcb failures also common. Your best bet is a Baxi one off service call. Unless the heat exchanger leaks, it's worth fixing.

Most tubes, pipes, joints are made of PVC/plastic, if can't use there it very limit application !

​@dereton33 I agree. When a toilet syphon fails, you're having to scrape off the old silicone because the new doughnut washer won't sit properly. If you apply silicone and it leaks, then you have to take all the gunk off a start again. Same with the basin waste. I repaired it when someone put silicone on the lip of it and it failed.

We were still using this carp when i started back in the late 80's. Its a pita to get off to repair taps, wastes etc. Putty is even worse sets like granite. Rubbish non removal product. Washers and silicone is and has been the industry standard for years now.

Washers always fail and silicone makes it impossible to remove sanitaryware stuck with the stuff. Plumbers mait anytime proven over the last 60 years.

@@dereton33 I always have some plumbers mate around. It does give an excellent seal. The one place I don't use it is on a sink or bath waste where it can be seen (inside the basin), because over time it stains & starts to look grubby. I use clear silicone wherever the seal needs to remain neat. Sting is starting to look a lot like you as he ages btw. No sh*t.
