Will Pope Francis Ban Latin Mass This Year? Dr. Taylor Marshall  

I am 14 years old, and in July I am going to be trained as an Altar boy for the Tridentine Mass! I regularly serve at the N.O. mass, but now it's getting less reverent and Jesus is suffering so much, and I am praying for the complete restoration of the church to come very soon so that Christ may be glorified on His day and not tortured. I was a very devout catholic as a child. I loved being an altar boy and serving the early mass . Then I began to see the Church changing and then the Latin mass was gone .I became a lapsed catholic and remained so until the local town I live in started to have an occasional Latin mass The honest truth is I need it to remain faithful

Two weeks ago our parish priest was assisted by a newly inaugurated priest. He was however from Cape Verde and didn’t speak Dutch nor English. We have a large group of people from Cape Verde living in our city, Rotterdam. Our parish priest told us just before the Eucharistic Prayer that he would pray in Latin so that his assistant could join in prayer. It was great to hear it. It also reminded me that we are a global Church and it would be great if we could honour Latin more during the Sunday mass.

Majority of Catholics are not aware that before 1969, the Mass was in Latin, and the Liturgy was totally different. The priest was facing the altar, the music was Gregorian Chant, women wear veils, faithfuls receive Communion on the tongue, kneeling, from a priest only, everyone in their Sunday best clothes, etc. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was a re-presentation of the Sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary about 2000 years ago, not a meal to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. From the very first Mass that Jesus instituted on Maundy Thursday (33AD), it developed from when Constantine made Christianity legal (313AD), to Pope St. Gregory the Great (590AD). But with limited communication and collaboration, people around the world had variations of the liturgy. So Pope St. Pius V codified the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) or Tridentine Mass (Council of Trent) as official and universal, with Apostolic Constitution Quo Primum (from the first) on July 14, 1570. TLM was essentially the same as the first Mass, only improved, more reverent and more solemn. Not until April 3, 1969, when Pope Paul VI promulgated the New Mass (Novus Ordo Missae) via Apostolic Constitution Missale Romanum, where 87% of the TLM was either removed or revised, to make it less offensive and more accommodating to non-Catholics. The modernist mindset, which Pope St. Pius X warned us about, finally gained an upper hand in the hierarchy and among the clergies, causing crisis in the Church until this day. They think that everything must change and adapt to the modern times. If you want to experience the Mass of the ages, before it gets suppressed again soon, look for a TLM near you. Don't worry about the language. There are good hand missals to translate Latin to English. The common ones are the 1962 and pre-55 Daily Missals. I attend the SSPX and have been for about 40 years. The Bull Quo Primum was in the front of every Altar missal up until Vatican II. I will die in the faith of my ancestors. I pray my own family, who have separated, will come to know and love the church as much as I have. I truly hope that our Lord will grant me this grace of final perseverance. As our Lord said. Once you come to the reality that Vatican II really did create a new religion that is now bearing its "fruits", one is left with a very difficult decision. I was recently speaking to an Orthodox priest who is fairly knowledgeable on Roman Catholic issues and in fact, admires pre-Vatican II Roman Catholicism. Even he said one only needs to look at the Roman West before and after the so-called pastoral council to see what is objectively occurring.

Seems like SSPX will be the last man standing then 🫤😳

My NO parish used to offer the TLM once a month. Then within the last few years it’s been taken away. I sent a letter to my Bishop if there would be a way that it could be brought back because we have a large group of faithful Catholics who would love it’s return. I was met with a loud no.

I know one person who has recently left for the orthodox. We are now at the SSPX full time since our diocese decided to limit the TLM during Holy Week and for the sacraments. I'm frustrated and sad about it. A loss of the TLM in the diocese is a loss for all of us.

Even though I attend Sunday Traditional Mass, my home parish offers all of the old traditions in this Novus Ordo parish….daily rosary, May Procession, Adoration and Benediction, Assumption Day procession and devotions, Corpus Christi procession and devotions, Stations of the Cross around town, Schola Masses etc etc

I have always had a deep love for Catholic masses in Latin. As a young girl in secular public school, we would sing songs in Latin for our Christmas concert. Gratias agimus tibi, Dona nobis pacem, ave Maria etc. imagine that, a bunch of 12 year olds reciting songs 1000 yrs old! I loved it. The few times I went to church as a kid I was in awe of the beauty of the language. I yearned for Catholicism. As an adult coming into the church, I was a little shocked at how “lax” the American novus ordo mass is. I was surprised I could understand the priest. I didn’t realize my Dads side of the family was very traditional, old school Catholics until I went to the parish in my new town. (Of course my grandma was old school, she was born in the 40s before novus ordo existed!) I remember mass being in Latin and I just thought it was like that everywhere. I was expecting some “espiritu sanctu” or anything like that but no… it was all English. I don’t think it is necessarily BAD but the beauty of Latin is missing. I feel like the Latin versions are more attractive, you feel like you are learning a big part of hidden history. I love the fact that you could attend a Catholic Latin mass anywhere in the world and still follow along. Here in the suburbs of NY, there are barely any TLMs anymore. Probably 2 within a 50 mile radius, and that’s only once a week. I wish they offered more Latin services. Latin enriches our lives more than we know- you learn roots and meanings of words you’d probably never care to learn, you can understand foreign languages better when traveling (because a lot of languages are derived from Latin), you have an upper hand when learning about science (periodic table elements) and medical terms because they still use Latin roots. Why? Cause it’s universal. We cannot let Latin die! If the TLM is banned, the church becomes very similar to that of a modern, American Protestant church. That’s just my thoughts.

Pope Francis has no authority to suppress the traditional Latin Mass. Quo Primum also states it isn't possible.

If it's an illegal order, it does not need to be followed. We are obliged to follow Our Lord Jesus, and His holy will.

God took me to the Traditional Mass, I was already tired of seeing how the Lord is mistreated at the Novus Ordo Mass, my son has already begun to serve at the altar, and it is incredible how in such a short time my son is seriously dedicated to this service. I love the reverence a Latin mass delivers, I’m a cradle Catholic and was so upset when the NO mass came into being, my current church has a Tridentine mass once per month, a Latin rosary once a month, at Sunday mass verse can be English/Latin… Mass in Latin is beautiful, reverent, holy and makes some feel that their concentration whilst praying to God is more intense… why cant congregations be listened to if Catholic congregations want Latin in the mass then it should be allowed to remain.

A valid pope wouldn't ban TLM, or in any way support gays or abortion, therefore, Francis doesn't seem very valid to me.

Dr. Marshall, didn’t you always say the “Our Father” in Latin on your show? I remember hearing it and really love hearing it though I do not know Latin. It’s very comforting and beautiful.

Taylor there is a phenomenon happening in my local Orthodox Christian parish.....a massive influx of Catholics. I can't logically explain it but it is happening.

FSSP priests are hardcore, they will keep doing their thing no matter what the Pope says. The FSSP and ICK & the Pope Pius crowd are not afraid of schism. There will be two popes, the social justice one in the Vatican and a second traditional one somewhere else

I went to the TLM today. Father said things will get worse but we will weather this storm as long as we have a disciplined prayer life. Father also said that the papal document on the final solution for the Tlm that will come out this year on July 16. pray and fast. Seriously, that's what he said. My annual 33 days of prayer before my anniversary of total consecration to Jesus through Mary began June 13. Not saying there is a significance between the two.

He has no right to suppress the Latin mass. We don’t have to obey this type of behavior from anyone. That’s like taking your most powerful medicine away from you! God is not for this and neither are we!

Decades ago I used to feel a filial devotion to our pope and a willingness to pray for his intentions and follow his decrees.

Really good presentation. My view is that Quo Primum was given for all time. Fr. Hesse has a number of very good audio recordings on this subject.

One Pope should never go against any predecessor in regards to anything that is good and wholesome especially the traditional liturgy just for hermeneutic of continuity. Messing with the mass like this is very dangerous and causes scandal and confusion. It's like saying a certain Saint is not a saint anymore bc of the changing times. It's insane

The problem is that PPV cannot bind the popes to come after him. His authority ended the day he died.

I belong to a TLM Parish and will never go to an irregular Society, or independent Catholic Church. No. What we WANT or prefer cannot pull us away from the faith. Persecution is nothing new. We may lose all Masses, and have to go underground. Until then, stay the course. One other point, let's cut back on the fear mongering also. Where is the faith in Divine Providence here.

About a year ago I registered in a second parish where the TLM is celebrated every Sunday morning. My other (more frequent parish) is only about 10 mins away and they quit the TLM a couple of years ago when their one Benedictine priest was transferred. I admit I go there when the weather is bad or I have no other choice but I miss the TLM and go to my 2nd parish as often as I can...I live in the suburbs and it is located in downtown Detroit...so if the weather is bad and I cannot get there alone (I am a 73yo widow) I don't go. I miss it like crazy, grew up with it, want it EVERY TIME. I don't know what else to do... 😥 ...

The only solution is for us to stop going to mass and stop donating until it’s overturned. If the church loses a big chunk of money, they will fold. It will be terrible missing mass but it will be fighting the good fight for future generations.

I love my Douay-Rheims bible. Interestingly enough I believe it was Dr. Marshall who suggested it back in the day, on the radio. Later I discovered him on YT.

Some traditions have been lost because the "faithful" Catholics do not practice them any more! You know what I mean, you lose something because you don't care about it

I live in California, after many years of looking for a church that celebrated the Latin Mass, I found one, which I have been attending, a couple of months, the priest on the homily, told us to follow the teachings of Pop Francis, that there many propaganda against his actions, that if we were listening and not wanting to follow Pop Francis we were excommunicated. He used a different word but, when I told this to my confessor, he called excomunión

If forced to go to a Novos Ordo mass one solution might be to place 1 cent in and envelope and a card that says bring back the Traditional Latin Mass and I’ll put in 20$+

What quo primum said doesn’t matter to the current hierarchy. They expect you to follow their “rules” but none apply to them!!! Ask bishop Strickland about how quo primum protected him from being removed.

I agree that Francis doesn’t have the energy to abolish the TLM, but there’s many Freemasons in the Curia who want to, and they may prevail.

I’m legally blind. The closest TLM I can get to is a walk, 2 trains, and a further walk away to get to. I have to leave at 8am to get to Mass at 10:30, and it’s impossible to get to in the winter when it’s too dark in the mornings and the weather makes it difficult to travel with my multiple other disabilities not just sight impairment

That would actually be something ideal, had Latin and Mass were not original and irreplaceable characteristics of Rome itself, Rome the State and Rome the Religious Sede of Christianity in the West, Latin, then Mass...The option to do it in Latin or any Language should not be removed.

Questions: So, the replacing of the Tridentine Mass with the Novus Ordo was illicit, right? And if the Tridentine liturgy was established in perpetuity by the Pope's absolute authority, then that's without a doubt an infallible pronouncement on our shared faith, correct?

Can Canon lawyers take the modernists to the papal court and challenge this new eradication of the TLM and use Quo Primum in defense for keeping the TLM????

If Rome considers EO valid churches, what prevents you from attending them until these issues are resolved? If there is a ban on Latin Mass and people do it in protest, you will be in schism as well.

For the post-conciliar modernists the liturgy is a never - ending product of subjective tinkering and will be so until there is an en masse return to Tradition.

Firstly, Francis does not have the authority to ban the TLM. Secondly if he tries and FSSP does go along with the ban why doesn't the SSPX follow the ban. Because they know he can't.

At this point does it even matter anymore? The faithful need to do some serious soul searching.

I'm 72, and grew up in the Latin Mass. I was in my late teens when the change was made. Why anyone can state that things were so superior then obviously was not around. Believe me, we had our problems then, disingenuous clergy, folks not serious about their faith then as we do now. I think a lot of it is just pining for the 'good old days'. To me, both forms are valid. But, I see the reason, if the Holy Father makes this call. To many Marshal Taylors, Fr. Altmans, Return to Tradition guys out there causing dissention and fighting among the faithful. If he does, then those folks will have a choice to make. Remain faithful to the one, true Church Christ started, or walk just like Martin Luther did

If he does ban it, it’s 100% within his rightful authority. If someone has a strong faith in the Eucharist, it will not phase them in the slightest to receive Christ at a NO mass instead.

Michael Davies believed quo primum could be abrogated by the pope but in fact wasn’t abrogated, ergo there is de jure a universal indult even prior to summorum pontificum

What is the big deal with doing the Latin Mass? I grew up attending Latin Mass and prefer it to this modern day mass.
