Yeah the PS3 one of the weirdest systems I owned, was also my last console I bought before I came to the PC. Seeing it run so well on a handheld makes me realize how fast technology is improving.
I mean tech is always growing at such a fast rate That even phones these days are as powerful or even more powerful than the last gen consoles. And soon we'll probably see another handheld system as powerful as the current consoles out
Wow, same. Wasn't sure I even wanted one, but a family member was getting rid of a half-broken ps3 from a renter that bailed on him and I managed to get it working. Just had to hook up a dvi cable and get the fussy disk drive to like me. Definitely the quirkiest console I ever owned, gonna try to get Alpha Protocol running on it, then I don't have to worry about steamdeck supporting a very old and very niche game. 😅
for those that choose to use RPCS3 for Persona 5, know that there is no "Royale" version on PS3. There was a community working on back--porting content from Royale onto the base version of Persona 5 for PS3, but idk if they're still going to do it since the game is releasing on PC and all consoles. Might be worth looking into.
@@noob-kun7768 oh I typed PS instead of PC. I meant PC. edited my comment. But yeah, I'm just speaking for those that still want to use RPCS3 for P5. The Royal stuff won't be there.
PS3 was the last home system that Sony created that I actually care about. It started off rough with its price and hardware to program for but had a lot of gems.
beginning really sucked. but man it grew to be something big. i dont like modern systems really. they feel like meta pc's. may as well become pc manufacturers' tbh. they are already there.
Yeah, the PS4 was absolutely lackluster. Horribly slow CPU and GPU combo and basically just 08/15 AAA titles you have seen a million times before. The PS2 had such an armada of well mad and unique first party titles, even the PS3 had alot of them; but with the PS4 they did a nose dive...
Been on a Yakuza kick and have played through every RGG western title and spinoff now including Fist of The North Star, Ishin, Judgement, and even Binary Domain. But, I still have my eye on Yakuza Dead Souls (laugh all you want lol), Kenzan, and others. Went looking for how to emulate PS3 on deck and glad to see my man was way ahead of me. Appreciate this one.
The problem I ran into is any PS3 game you actually want to play runs like shit. Red Dead Redemption Midnight Club Etc. Or at least the games that I'm interested in.
TLoU and Uncharted are difficult games to emulate even on a high-end PC. I think it's more about the emulation just not "being there". That said, there are many community patches and workarounds that might improve the experience quite drastically... Then again - the PC versions of both of those are supposed to land soon-ish, so it might be worth it just to wait.
Fighting games using RPCS3 works great on Steam Deck. I have Tekken 6, TTT2, Street Fighter x Tekken, King of fighters 13, Virtual fighter 5, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and Marvel vs Capcom 2 and 3. It's Amazing what Steam Deck can handle for an handhold.
Thank you for your tutorials. I don't have a SD or do emulation stuff but it's definitely interesting to watch how the emulators evolve even from a standpoint of pure curiosity
The one major difference that I noticed between downloading directly and using flat packs is that none of the emulators through emu deck with an exception of cemu Xemu and ryujinx, have the toolbar at the top of the window [File-Emulation-tools-help ect] and that makes doing things like launching the Wii menu on dolphin, or doing literally anything on melon DS impossible
@@josephellis4968 By turn them on themselves, do you mean launch the game in desktop mode, launch the emulator in desktop mode, or turn on the toolbar in desktop mode so it shows up when launching from game mode in steam? I tried emudeck, but it was pretty annoying not having the toolbar for yuzu and having to go back to desktop mode just to change a single setting then back to game mode to play the game.
I was really really close to pulling the trigger on a PS5 Horizon Bundle. I live in California, so the price is $550 for the bundle. I was mostly getting it to have for the new GOWR. But more and more I have been realizing, it doesn't really matter to me if I play God Of War Rag day one or not. Their are about to be a nice pack of games coming out around that same time. So more n more I have been getting excited about the idea of getting a Cleveland Steamer Deck! I didn't think this would be possible at all, even if it is on a very limited game library. Steam Decks seem seriously almost too good to be true haha!!
Majority of emulation is based on optimization. I tried running ratchet & clank 3 years ago and got like 20 fps. Now I get well over 60 just fine. TLOU is probably in the same boat here. As time passes and RPCS3 improves, you will see more games run at high framerates on all pcs, handhelds etc... Patience is key.
I really would never expected to see Demon Souls run a 60 fps on Steam Deck. 30? Maybe. Stable 30? Don't think so. 60? Absolutely not. Incredible device.
I'm just as shocked as you. It was a challenge to get it running that smooth on my last gaming PC with a i7 8700k @5Ghz and a 1070. Now with my new system 11900k and 3080 it runs smooth and at 4k 60. I just got it setup on my steam deck and have to say that it's perfect. Even when you get into the open world with dragons and enemies it stays locked on 60 where as my old 8700k would have frame rate drop below 30 at times. When I first load into an area it can take a few seconds to catch up on the steam deck where my new PC feels smoother than it did on the PS3, it's still so little it's not even a issue while playing the game. I've only had my steam deck for a few days now but I'm so glad I bought it. I do wish I would've saved the money and got the 64GB model instead of the 512GB (main reason was the etched glass) because the first thing I did was throw a 1TB ssd in it. I have all my emulators running off a SD card including the PS3 games and have had zero issue doing it that way as well. There is a small delay on SD card while loading the game the first time while it build the shaders but after that it doesn't effect performance.
demon s souls was exactly what i was looking for. one of my favoritve games, and being on the move a lot more i cant use my consoles as much. amazing video
ps3 was the last home console to support non hd resolutions. why do i not see more of these emulators take advantage of that. surely it would be easier to emulate at 480p or even 480i than 720. and yes while not optimal. would probably be more than playable with most games.
I know this is an old comment, but pretty much every modern console emulator lets you choose what resolution you run the game at, including non-HD resolutions, the thing is- reducing your resolution on most if-not all emulators rarely does much to improve performance, because the vast majority of emulators are CPU bound and rely very little on GPU performance, playing at 1080p really is no different from emulating the game at 480p because at the end of the day, your GPU was hardly getting taxed to begin with, assuming you have any kind of modern GPU. I mean consoles like the xbox 360 were working with 512 MEGABYTES of ram SHARED between the CPU and GPU, it's the backend of these emulators that work to translate the workload of a PS3 or Xbox 360 into a language your CPU can understand is what makes it pretty taxing. Long-Winded explanation, but TL;DR: resolution doesn't matter as much as you think it does.
I was playing rainbow six vegas 2 on rcps3 last night which is not traditionally an easy game to run. I lowered the resolution to 960 x 540 and then uppped the sharpening. It still looked great and it ran really solid
I followed everything but anytime I download a ROM it is extracted into an ISO and I cant figure out how to get it to run the ISO as when I try to load the game or ass it it says there is no content, been looking for a video to help with no success. Anyone have any tips?
Im getting this error. Booting /home/deck/Emulation/Games???Roms/PS3/ Saw (USA) (en,fr,es)/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/EBOOT.BIN ‘ Failed Reason: Invalid File or Folder Thread id = 32319
Fixed it. PCSX2 and steam rom manager don’t mind folders containing forward slash for example a folder named “games/roms” so I renamed it to “GamesRoms” and worked. RPCS3 doesn’t like special characters on folders. Hope this helped anyone else.
As I’ve said, Getting games to run at their original frame rate and graphics is always the target, The fact that there are patches to make games run smoother is impressive! A lot of work to go but they are getting there, hopefully Naughty Dog games get fixed Also can’t wait for the fanboys to spin this video around and try and make it so you say “single digit frame rate is impressive”
I can tell you with 100% certainty (30 hours in) Persona 5 after compiling shaders has absolutly zero issues and runs like its native on steamdeck. The only issue is some audio pops here and there but gets better by changing settings inside RCPS3. You dont need 60fps to play a persona game
I'm beyond frustrated. I had an SD card and loaded some games on it. I had minor issues but got Tekken 6, Dragon's Crown, and Odin's Sphere running. I couldn't be happier. Then the Sd card crashed. Got another SD and NOW every time I try to load a game I just get a black screen...
I’ve just installed Metal Gear Solid HD collection and all 3 games run brilliantly at 60FPS in widescreen. Lollipop Chainsaw is great too. Puppeteer and Demons Souls next. The GameCube stuff is out of this world, FZERO GX runs so smoothly at 60FPS in widescreen.
What about playing roms in iso format ? Can you load iso files directly or do you need to mount the iso an then extract its content into à New folder ?
I was actually able to get WipEout HD (one of the most demanding PS3 games out there) to run on the Steam Deck just short of 60 FPS once I installed Powertool and maxed the CPU clock and power limit. I did have to nuke the graphics quality though, Approximate XFloat + Relaxed ZCull. With some optimizations I think it can improve a lot, and right now a lot of lower end games like UMvC3 and Rock Band should probably run just fine. The biggest problem is battery life.
Hi Alex. This is an awesome tutorial again. But there is also other side of Steam Deck: Windows user like me. I did whatever you shown your other videos for other emulators they all work nice. But Rpcs3 is little complicated and question is all same for windows 10?
11:30 How do you set it up for .iso rather than .bin? Your explanation was rather vague since you didn't even interact with that part of the menu, instead just saying what is supposed to be done.
I got Infamous running with good framerates but the audio is choppy and it seriously pulls from the CPU. almost all cores were 90-100%. the temp I think was about 80.
I appreciate the instructional videos. One thing I would like to point out; You’ve expressed concerns in the past with folks not watching your reviews. I believe it’s because it’s missing your flair. It’s too professional and not to come off as insulting just a lack of vocabulary but “boring”. I don’t think you’re boring I think the content is boring, put more of your humor In these videos you don’t have to be business serious to educate us, be loose and be cool and you’ll see more views on these vids. With that said thank you and peace
wtf? dude I feel like I traveled back in time and I'm seeing the young version of you hah 😂 just 2 videos and day and night difference. can't believe that hh
Just got done playing Ragnarok Odyssey Ace (PS3), not all PS3 games run well a lot of them require setting changes like ModNation Racers, Lost Planet 2 and Resistance 2.
Thank you you see this demon souls wart like the opening played. I had a custom character but then when I turned on the game, I could see the health bar I could see my weapon and shield, but I could not see the character or the environment so I was like what the heck do I do to make it work and your tutorial has helped me now I can actually play the game and I’m super excited because I’ve never played this game.
Hi. My emulator doesn't recognize the game. I have Demon's Souls. In the folder, another PS3_GAME folder and does not see anything after selecting Add Games. Do I have to prepare this folder with the game somehow?
Could it be that the last version of PCS3 (it auto-updated) doesn't have the "Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0" anymore under Evdev? It only shows "Steamdeck" and controls don't work properly
The tutorial is really good the only thing is where do you the games from? As iv download files an they don’t show in my micro card pkf files from another video doesn’t seem to work I can’t figure it out…
Before watching, I got RPCS3 to run Demon's Souls just fine, with very minor tweaking. I'm an emulation novice, and haven't dipped into it since emulating some original PS games back in 2013, so it took 4 days (maybe an hour or 2 a day) to get it right. Take care that in desktop mode, you can easily mute whatever program you're running on accident, and this took me 2 days to figure out, as I'm also green with Linux. On to watching the rest of the video.
Hey, have u faced any audio issues like...suddenly the audio of every game doesn´t works? This occurs only with PS3 games. Used to work perfectly but now...not anymore. Thanks!
I don’t know why but this just doesn’t work for me I trying to play skate 3 I downloaded rcsp3 and skate 3 but for some reason when I go to boot game and put my game it it crashes and refuses to work I need help I want to try this
also alex allot off games that say playable witrh a green dot dont run that well like never dead i cannot get that thing too run i get black screen on the first mission after the cutsense other youtubers got it too run maybe using a custom rcps3 launcher then and on my pc desktop too
Hi there question of sorts is there a reason as to why MY knock off playstaion 4 controller works ok on the steam deck but the 8 bit do controller and Xbox controller's don't also any setting recomendations for GTA 4 loads the files doesn't play Kind Regards thanks, side note Xbox and 8 Bit do work fine in Spiderman for steam.
Hi Alex, so just wanted to let you know that for some reason when you go to the controller settings this part is empty for me. Can you find out why this is working for the deck. I put everything you said but for some reason the actual buttons labels don't come up. Thank you. in the flat pack they did but it only playes games on gamescope and not vulkan.
Hey, is there a trick to getting FSR working? is it maybe game-dependent? I followed your guide, I have FSR checked on in the GPU tab of RPCS3 and I also turned on FSR on the steam deck overlay but it just doesn't seem to work properly. When I go into settings, it seems like FSR turns on for a few seconds then turns off and keeps going about in a loop. Once I boot up my game, it just says OFF at all times. I'm trying to play God of War Collection. Any tips? Thanks!
