Will Rheinmetall's Leopard 2A4-KF51 Panther hybrid tank be the star of Eurosatory 2024?

One hypothesis is that the integration of the KF51's turret on the Leopard 2A4 chassis is part of Rheinmetall's strategy to offer an upgrade path for countries operating Leopard 2A4 tanks, similar to other projects around the world. For instance, Türkiye has integrated the Altay tank turret and indigenous armor into its Leopard 2A4s.

Ein Hybridpanzer wäre eine gute Erweiterung. Das Chassis und der Motor sind ja Spitzenklasse.

On 15 December 2023, Rheinmetall allready announced that the company had signed a contract worth €288 million with the Hungarian government to develop the Panther KF51 EVO variant, which makes use of the 120 mm L/55A1 gun found also on the Leopard 2A7HU and will feature a new hull derived from the Bergepanzer 3 "Büffel" chassis.

The KF51 already mostly used the Leo 2 chassis. The real innovation was the turret. Otherwise they would have made a complete redesign with an unmanned turret. I think Rheinmetall knows that the MGCS will be the next revolutionary step, so they offer the evolutionary step for the Leo2 and maybe even other tanks.

I hope it has powerful protection from thermal-imagers and drones. It would be revolutionary if it can be invisible to thermal imagers.

The Leopard is NOT a Rheinmetall vehicle. The Leopard is from KNDS. So the vehicle you show has nothing todo with the Leopard 2AX.

Currently K2 is the best. This is because K2's overall performance has already been verified in Poland, Norway, and Romania.

So basically a step down instead of a step up this time around no real development and improvement of the tank. Just a turret offering. Was expecting a electro thermal chemical gun to be considered and a new platform for the tank.

C est très bien pour les entreprises allemande mais c est encore un couteau dans le dos quand ils doivent concevoir un char commun avec la France pour le futur , ou produiront ils ceux ci pour l export ?

Bisherige gemeinsamme Rüstungsprojekte mit Frankreich sind häufig an französischen Befindlichkeiten gescheitert. Und nachdem man sich Frankreich im Flugzeugbau untergeordnet hat ist es wichtig beim Scheitern des Panzerprojektes eine Alternative zu haben.
